Elizabeth (Royale) was my school friends mother. She was the epitome of a lady. I remember Nicholas's christmas party whereby we would play hide and seek as infants and there would always be one of the girls hiding under her wonderful ball gown. She was such a wonderful person. ALways had time for everyone and so down to earth. Sadly missed.
She was a star singer in her day and very great in the music of Richard Strauss. I remember her in the coffee shop of the RNCM in the late 1980's taking a break from examining diploma candidates. What a beautiful lady! She is fondly remembered. I later took lessons with Scots tenor Duncan Robertson and he too thought very highly of her.
What a charming and superb voice with such a solid technique. Not many sopranos can trill up to a high E the way she does at the end of this "Caro nome". She also sings Tytania on Britten's recording of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Divine! I agee with classy888 about her recording of The Yeomen Of the Guard.
I saw her in Sydney in 1965 with a young Pavarotti in Lucia. Wonderful - she brought the house down! Her recording of Yeomen of the Guard is absolutely divine! And she was a beautiful woman as well!
Wasn't she a splendid soprano! And what brilliant coloraturas! Elizabeth Harwood died far too young at the age of 52 yrs(1938-1990) She proves here that we should still talk about her, such vocal acrobatic singing. Also her English folksongs were of an incredable vocal quality and warmth.Indeed a great singer.Sadly missed. A Dutch fan, Cornelis.

What a perfect rendition. I've also just read that Janet Baker held her in the highest esteem as her most beloved colleague.
