  • It's... well, hit or miss. There certainly could be a place for this among your mixing tools... but for $100+ ?

  • FOR TODAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY

  • We can't fault the concept, and the manual is very apologetic about the things Hit'n'Mix can't do. But when changing even the cleanest recording turns it into a garbled mess, it's not unfair to suggest that this should have stayed on the drawing board a bit longer.

Do not buy it I did and I regret...the BBC video is a fraud.

  • @dukegdl What would you reccomend instead?

  • @DeathByMidgettz Not exist a program that can do this. There multitracks and separate tracks on the web. Everything else will be an unfulfilled promise

  • suppose karaoke can use it to fade the vocal out.its fun.no professional sound at all just fun

  • can u seperate harmonys?

  • is hit' n' mix going to be mac compatible in the future? I was bummed to see it is so far developed for pc only so far...

  • I'm really interested in buying this product, but I'd really like to know what quality the drums would be if they were ripped from an mp3 before I spend my money. Could you link me to a drum track that has been taken from an mp3 please?

Not really after professional quality, just decent enough for a few demo's. Cheers!

  • Why the trial version doesn't have all the features? If you can't try everything to find out if you want to invest on it or not, then that defeats the purpose of having a trial version altogether!

  • for an electronic musician the major interesting feature would be the mixer that permits to remove instrumpents (to extract stems in order to make a remix, especially drums. if next version can properly remove drums I predict a bright future for your company - I read in comments that it's not perfect yet). I tryed the demo and this feature isn't available. so it's totally impossible to know about the efficiency of it. too bad. I don't want to buy it to test if it works.

  • Can you make a video demonstrating the software doing something a little more basic, like simply removing the vocals or creating an acapella? Sounds like the seperation is good but the pitch shifting and timing leave a bit to be desired. I know a new version is in the works but I'd like to see how the current one sounds doing the more basic stuff.

  • i'm aware of copyright restrictions & ive seen the newsnight vid but can you provide a video illustrating the program isolating components of a song ? I tried the demo but the functions were limited. I know it's a difficult task with random results depending on the source.

The rip file format is a good idea. A batch convert option ,& bpm / tempo indicator would also be useful.

i would also like to see an alternate workspace view as the oil paint ,pastel fireworks are distracting.

  • @TheUtubemaestro We are working on Hit'n'Mix 2 which is aimed more towards professionals with higher sound quality. It should be ready later this year.

  • is there any way where you can rip drums from songs with crystal clear quality. On the Hit n Mix play it sounds very amateur, i don' knowt if that is just because of the free version or whatever? any help?

  • @TheSinghFIRE Drums are particularly difficult to extract cleanly. We are working on this for Hit'n'Mix 2.

  • @TheSinghFIRE No.... I don't beleive this will ever be possible due to the complexities of sound and the fact that instruments cross over in frequencies ....

Then again, I've been proven wrong before! :p

  • on the one hand... looks interesting, on the other sounds crappy.

  • @nonseans Look out for Hit'n'Mix 2 out later this year with much improved quality. It will incidentally be a free upgrade.

  • @HitnMixVideo please PLEASE have compatibility with OSX for Hit'n'Mix2

  • im testing the "play" version right now, and it seems that u rather use *.wav files, since the mp3 tracks have some gaps (probably due to compressing whats not heard). intresting piece of software though.

  • Could you just use it to get one part of a song and then extract that to annother place, like logic or pro tools?

  • @L0stbunny This is one of the uses. You can copy notes between tracks in the paid version.

  • does this work if you've record vinyl or tape to a pc, (ie does it work of the audio or the encoding of the audio)

  • @TheElegantPaws You need to open either a .wav or a .mp3. It does not record directly from a line-in or mic.

  • doesn't the newest melodyne do this?

  • @wglmb Hit'n'Mix is designed to work with full audio mixes (full songs) rather than polyphonic instrument tracks.

  • @HitnMixVideo so is the latest version of melodyne...

  • @HitnMixVideo they call it DNA (direct note access)

  • @wglmb As far as I am aware DNA is designed to work with polyphonic audio (chords of similar instruments). This is different from full mixes, which include many different sounding instruments, percussion and noise - This is what Hit'n'mix is designed to work with.

  • @HitnMixVideo interesting, thanks

  • Thanks for your comments on sound quality. This release is aimed more at beginners to the scene. We do have a higher quality version in development which we expect to release later this year.

  • At the moment it is for Windows only. It is taking a little longer to develop the Mac version, but it is in the pipeline!

  • @HitnMixVideo

Sounds good cuz all I have I have is a mac and I believe being an animation studio, this software can come in handy to creating my reels.

  • I understand that this just works on window OS and not for mac Os?

  • How is this different to Melodyne?

  • it sounds awful

  • So how does this compare to Prosoniq's sonicWORX? Does it sound as clean?

  • load of bollox :)

  • I tested out the trial version for a few minutes and actual vocals were pink in colour, with yellow being the keyboard. I was excited to see this on the news but disapointed when trying it.

  • The sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, are we going to hear nothing but wobbly awful sounding remixes from now on? Can't see it being used professionally.

  • @dryfish02

melodyne sounds a lot more artificial than this, it seems to be using a granular pitch shifter rather than formant analysis, so it's actually a pretty potent piece of software. Those visual effects are completely joke, though, very ubuntu. No mac version though ...

  • @bishopdante IKR(no mac), I would of at least liked to try it out :( Think I'll stick with Ableton and Logic ;)

  • can it mute individual instruments as i have downloaded the demo and it cant ?

  • @sledgehead7000

Guess u can from the demonstration by the software maker's on BBC website

  • Just watched this on the news. Let's be fair , it's pretty pointless unless you're going to use it for an online stream like youtube etc because of the artifacts I bet it gives the audio.

  • @chinering23

some people actually want glitchiness ...

  • @bishopdante Not glitchiness. I'm talking about the fishtank sound you get from a bog standard 128kbps mp3 where the frequency is hi cut about 16khz. I've tried spectragram or whatever they're called programs before , the same as vocal isolation software/plugs , gives a horrible sound. Yea all good for messing about with but won't be proffesional sounding. The song in the video there isn't much going on with it. Some instruments overlap in frequencys, you will have drums occupying most of it.

  • @chinering23 We are working on Hit'n'Mix 2 which is aimed more towards professionals with higher sound quality. It should be ready later this year.

  • Cool !!
