@AnotherUser1000 it was probably cheeper to sink and raise a scaled down version of the car than to sink and raise a full scale car. Which would have involved sinking the car raising it, cleaning it up, and then resink it for another shot at a different angle or if the first shot was no good. If you are doing this with a full size car 15-20 times it becomes expensive.

@videozfann Actually, there are a lot of rubbers and rubber-like synthetic materials (I doubt KITT used standard tires) that are resistant to a lot of acids. Since what KITT used for tires, and what chemicals were in the pit were never specified, it is at least conceivable.
@2040Rumely : I never caught that before! The acid eats right through KITT's shell and guts the whole car, but those tires are all good. Why didn't they just make the whole car out of that magic rubber?
KITT could have micro-jammed the forklift and then Michael would knock out the driver and lower him, but that would defeat the purpose of the episode, the theme of this episode is KITT sinking in that pit and getting destroyed!
