Beautiful voice, pretty women. But I dont like her high notes. And not just by this aria. Her high notes are not the best. Okay, she is a popera singer, but she can sing opera arias in theory , so she use classical technics. I don't think it is an "excuse" that she is not a real opera singer. What about Andrea Bocelli or Sarah Brightman? They are also popera singers, and they sing well opera arias. Btw. I really like Katherine's voice.
Such a pleasent tone to her voice - a shame about that annoying wobbly, vibrato! It ruins the aria which she shouln't attempt really because she isn't a coloratura. But she is good with pieces that are not opera so she's not a terrible singer, just not good enough for this.
Dear people, I just want to say that this is NOT LIVE performance. Everything that you are hearing in this clip is very hard (and very poorly done) music studio work. Do you want proof?
1:38 - first cut (do you hear timing of the orchestra, he's not in the rythm). Later, on the 2:29 you could hear cut in the voice of KJ, with 2 (??) breaths. In the same phrase, audio engineer has also made a lousy pitch tuning (on the word "trappole"). The same thing is done on 3:01, 2 breaths before the phrase.
@promaxel Isn't Ernman magical?! She's a brilliant performer with an exceptionally wide vocal range and a most versatile repertoire. Not many singers can pull off both a brilliant Carmen and an equally brilliant Queen of the Night.
@promaxel I agree Malena Ernman is superb in anything she sings, and what a wide repertory - a friend sent me Ernman's videos a few days ago and I was amazed.
I think it does not matter is she an opera or popera singer .... If it her task to sing an opera aria then sing that one she can sing very well.... BTW there is Andrea Bocelli.. and Sarah Brightman, too... They are not opera singers, but much more better... In my opinion Katherine J. has a really good voice, I really like it, and she is very talented. She's not bad, but not so good in opera arias... She has a gorgeous voice, but she should study a lot to be really good at opera arias.
@bpetii1 She doesn't have the voice or technique to be an opera singer. She got a teaching credential, not a degree in vocal performance. Apparently, she ignored what her voice teachers tried to teach her or she is incapable of singing with correct technique. I'm delighted that you realize that Jenkins, Brightman, and Bocelli are not opera singers. Neither are Russell Watson, Paul Potts, Charlotte Church, or Filippa Giordano.
The first time a saw a video of KJ singing Una voce poco fa, I though that the high note at the end was a one time mistake, but it's not! She really performs it that way on purpose-
@TheJlazar jackie is a very typical young singer. lowering the larynx to created a deeper voice to sound older is about the most damaging thing you can do. and it also explains her disgusting fast vibrato. her singer teacher should be ashamed. Nessun Dorma/O Mio Babbino Caro at 12 years old?! I can't touch that repetoire until I'm at least 30, if not 35. Charlotte Church isn't as bad, her technique was quite good and she was very advanced but had lots and lots of bad habits. it's a shame really.
What a total mess. She has no high notes, no coloratura, no breathing reserve, no technique, not intonation, a huge flapping vibrato, and terrible Italian diction (...e centoi traipoile, primai di ceidere...). Must have learned the aria phonetically. What the hell is she doing here or in any kind of singing venue? To call her an opera singer, when she has never sung a stage role, is beyond ridiculous. All I get is a pretty face and plastic tits. Send her to an escort agency where she belongs.
@philipc67 Wow, you are from Greece! I'm originally from Russia. I like Callas very much, some people can like her less, but she is a true opera singer no matter if someone can not like her timbre and not all her roles. But compare this pop nonsense Jenkins with fake boobies and fake voice with great Callas and say that she is also opera singer and opera now is democratic but we are elitists is ridiculous! It's not about Americans versus Britain like our "buddy" harby thinks and keeps raving!LOL
Boy there aresome real nasty people out there ,Iam sure if you looked that all that is perfect in the music world in the states that you could pick on some one there. You cannot just comment on one item evidently you follow this singer and No all the time you specialy arpeggio1358.
@philipc67 Oh come on! I agree with everything you've said about her singing, but to call her a whore? That's ridiculous and unnecessarily rude. Oh, how the veil of the internet can bring out the absolute WORST in people!
@BassoProfundo87 Do not put words in my mouth, baby. I never called KJ a whore. Let me clarify...her looks, tight dresses and plastic boobs make her a much better candidate for (or belonging to) an upmarket escort agency than any kind of singing venue or concert platform. There are levels of decorum to protect. Now, if you look at Filippa Giordano, her voice and repertoire....now SHE belongs in a Neapolitan whorehouse! The "diva" KJ? Mayfair Escorts!
@12harby Ypu must be completely obsessed with KJ, if you have to beat up anyone who doesn't like her voice. You need help. All we're saying is that she isn't an opera singer and that we don't like her voice. This isn't the end of the world, but you make it seem such. I guess that you're so obsessed with her that you can't stand having anyone express a negative opinion about her. Grow up and act your age, which comes across as about 12.
@arpeggio1358 There must be only perfect singers there .I would hzve thouht you could have objected to the american commercialisation of an 11 year old girl who it is said is the next great mezzo soprano .Gd bless the little lass but at 11 years old her voice could do anything ,but thats alright with you ,she is American
@12harby I mentioned American, Josh Groban as someone whose voice I don't like. Go back and read. You seem to see only what you want to see. Jackie Evancho never came up in the conversation, but I don't like the commercialization of this little girl. She needs a good teacher or her voice will be damaged. Her parents seem to want to push her into a career and that's the worst thing about the situation. It's too early to judge what her voice will be like as an adult.
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely. I can't stand this commercialization of Jackie Evancho either no matter from what country I am:-). I'm Russian living in Canada. So, if I dislike SOME American pop singers some obsessed people like harby can say that it's Russians against Americans! LOL But we are both normal people and take it as exchange of opinions among LISTENERS!:-) Evancho isn't an OPERA SINGER yet as promoters present her for MONEY. She is a little girl who has an amazing ability to IMMITATE....
But people make money on anything and like sensations. Evancho DOESN'T sing as a MATURE WOMAN. harby implies that she COULD be the next great mezzo soprano. But she is a little girl now and it's against her NATURE to sing as a mature opera singer yet. It's pure pop too if a little girl imitates a woman, like a woman imitates a girl. Her place is in shows like America's got talent for now. She really needs a good teacher, otherwise all this hype and explotation of her can soon destroy her voice.
@serenaluce Once again we're in complete agreement. Jackie is a little kid, nobody knows what her voice will be like when she grows up. Apparently, her parents don't want her to be an oepra singer, but rather a pop and popera singer...probably because she can make so much money. She's have to train for many years to be an opera singer and then she probably wouldn't make the kind of money she can make singing pop. It's sad that parents push their kids into stuff like this.
@arpeggio1358 give Jackie until she's about 25. Her voice will be shot if she keeps singing the way she is. Her career will simply come crashing down.
@12harby Buddy, your obsession with KJ is really already frightening and makes no sense. You could scare your idol to death if you met her in person. That's why such pop artists have to hire body guards to defend themselves from such FANS like you! Get real! What's wrong with calling her a POP SINGER performing classics? It's just a statement, not insult. Why do you continue turning this video into a POLITICAL case of Americans against Britain?Stop insulting COUNTRIES! It's exchange of OPINIONS!
@12harby Just to be fair, I don't like the voices of Bocelli, Brightman, Watson, Potts, Giordano, Westenra, Groban, Church, and the other popera performers for the same reasons as I dislike KJ's voice. Listen to what I'm actually saying and not what you twist my words into. You really are embarrassing yourself in front of anyone who reads this whole discussion thread.
@arpeggio1358 Here are Americans I admire .The Obamas .FDR and Eloner ,Truman, lyndon Johnson Jimmy Carter-Great guy.Funny all democrats .Miller Dorseybros basie ellington goodman buddy holly 9Not a rk rl fan ,he was a revolutionary .Best actress bar non Jodi Foster.Greatest pop singer ever ,blue eyes .The Clevland symph orch ,had some of their albums .Many great actors ,
Greatest inovations ,the web cornflakes mc donalds . and of course electricity,
@12harby It seems we share many favorite people. I already sent you a list of people frm the U.K. that I admire, so you know there are many of them. It still remains that you made some pretty nasty attacks on my country while I didn't attack yours at all.
@arpeggio1358 Of course per capita you have not that much culture well the freakier you are the more weird the better it is . And that is why those who follow an art form make out themselves to be above the rest.
Listen buster I grew up in an area where culture is all around where working people took it for granted to be interested in singing playing acting ,it still is part of life .If time and again all you have to say is to put down grow up.You are not commenting you aim to destroy.
@12harby Buddy, calm down! All you say makes no sense whatsoever! First you singled out serenaluce then arpeggio who is not here to DESTROY but to express OPINION that your beloved Jenkins isn't an OPERA SINGER but a POP SINGER! YT was created this way to give people such an opportunity to discuss and argue what is true and what is just commercial as people make money anywhere! If you can't tell a cubic circonia from GENIUINE DIAMOND continue liking it but don't be offended that some CAN tell!
@serenaluce harby really is obsessedf with KJ, and it's beginning to sound very scary. I used to work for an actor, and I know a thing or two about obsessed fans.
@12harby Stop insulting me and my country. Just because I don't like KJ's voice you rip me apart and rip my country apart. All you ever do is put down me and my country. This isn't about the U.S. It's about the fact that I don't like Jenkins's voice. You are the one who aims to destroy. You try to discredit me by slamming my country. You have no idea what you're talkign about. I don't attack your country. You're the one who needs to grow up.
@12harby anyone who follows this discussion can see that serenaluce and I never said anything bad about the U.K. We just don't like KJ's voice and have given the reasons why.Others have agreed with us. You're embarrassing yourself with your anti U.S. rants. They have nothing to do with KJ's voice. The u.K. has a distinguished cultural tradition. Also, noteveryone in the U.S. is a culturally deprived idiot. You embarrass yourself when you say these things. I feel sorry for you.
@arpeggio1358 Thank you, and may I remind all the illiterates out there that I/We are not haters. I have knowledge, education, listening experience, and plain common sense on my side. Current ignorant and tasteless audiences and critics alike pay attention to so-called "opera singers" like Jenkins, Giordano, Watson, Bocelli, Brightman, Potts, Evancho et al. They are all fake, mediocre to say the least. An opera artist is judged ON STAGE, not cheap concerts and TESCO compilation discs. Wake up!
@philipc67 Absolutely.Couldn't agree more with you here! We are not haters! And this shitty tendency to present POP SINGERS performing opera arias without proper technique just to attract more people to the theatre and concert halls to make more money is very bad! It destroys real opera and distorts taste as the majority hear only such crap. But the worst thing now is that such fakes like Bocelli are invited to opera productions like Jaroussky too and recorded with opera singers and sold as OPERA
Harby, as YT is changing and glitching again I canèt reply to your comment but you have nothing else to do in your life but drool over KJ boobies and barby face and rave on her videos, so youèll come here again and read my reply to you. Dear, you have not only total operatic ignorance but a big mental problem as well if you donèt understand at all what I say and just LIE! You think that other people are idiots and canèt read what I actually said! Where did I say ALL choral works...in pop style!
Serenaluce. you are saying that all choral works are sung in pop style and only opera sigers can put that right ,boy you must be on the far right of the opera lot an absolute purist . do not think all opera people will agree with you ,out goes even the Salt Lake city Tabernacle Choir ,the Kings college Choir .What absolute rubbish .
@12harby The Mormon Tabernacle Chior has high vocal standards for admission as does the Kings College Choir. Many of the KCC singers are training to be professional classical or opera singers. Both choirs have sung with professional opera singers as guest soloists. These are professional quality choirs. Also Serenaluce is right, you haven't given any valid evidence that KJ sings with proper vocal technique.
@12harby Please give us proof that KJ sings with proper vocal technique and breathing. Be specific. Also popera singers aren't in between pop singers and opera singers. Popera singers ARE pop singers who also sing isolated opera arias, rather than singing roles in complete operas in legit opera houses the way opera singers do. Popera singers don't have the voices or technique to be opera singers.
@arpeggio1358 ive researched the conservatoires of the UK as I'm currently studying in one at the moment. The Royal Academy is not the best place for vocal tuition but that's not to say it is not good. However, Katherine Jenkins was a lot better when she was at the Royal Academy. Her vocal teacher after the academy was from The Royal Welsh College of Music and has bascally destroyed her voice. Therefore, Katherine Jenkins has a lack of good technique, hence she's a crap singer. i agree with u.
@tomcane8 This teacher must hve started working with her right after the R.A. as she hs had technique problems all along since school. I wonder if that unpleasant vibrato and bad breathing developed right after school. Didn't she have enough sense to know this teacher was damaging her voice? I just wish she's stay away from opera arias.
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely, at last there are here some other people who make reasonable comments about KJ's technique, terrible high notes, coloratura and Italian. Her vibrato is just awful! She has no sense of style as an opera singer, but as a pop singer she can entertain people who don't know much about opera and don't care with her visceral singing and pretty shape and face which many find appealing. We don't say that it's bad but just DIFFERENT genres. It's NOT opera. KJ doesn't belong there
@serenaluce You're right, she shouldn't be singing opera. BTW, tomcane8 whose comment you see here, is a student studying singing and knows what he's talking about. He agrees with us about KJ.
@arpeggio1358 Agreed. And philipc67 is right too. We are not haters. We just comment on what artists do on stage and what image they create. I don't understand why people are so offended when a spade is called a spade? What's so bad to be a POP singer? But if KJ sang pure pop repertoire she would be compared with e.g. Rihanna or Aguillera. If she ventures to sing classics she is compared with OPERA SINGERS, and there are enough people who can tell the difference! What's here to do with hatred?!
@arpeggio1358 i actually heard a recording of her while she was at the academy and it sounded fantastic until she met her new teacher. i can probably explain all of her problems. Fast vibrato is a result of a lot of vocal chord tension, breathy sound is a result of bad breath control and she is not technically skilled enough to sing this aria. She strains a lot and her top C at the end is absoultely disgusting. Her vowelling is also very poor with very crap Italian pronunciation.
@arpeggio1358 she does actually have all the techniques as she learnt them when doing her degree at royal academy of music, however she must choose not to
@bookloverholic I think it more likely that she was unable to learn to sing with proper technique. BTW, she has a teaching credential from the R.A., not a degree in vocal or opera performance. At any rate, her technique is quite horrible.
When she comes back here, it is though the Queen has arrived . Those two pop singers you call them seem so polite compered with her .Irepeat I have never said Kj or even Hw are opera singers god forbid they ever where .could be like you lot.
If as you say only opera singers should be allowed to sing anything classical. Then all the great choral stuff is to be sung by them alone ,Messiah Elijah St Mathew Passion . your argument is then rubbish.
@12harby Come on, all your arguments is rubbish.First instead of giving any musical arguments why you think that Jenkins sings this piece "Una voce poco fa" with proper technique, style you began to accuse all Americans of HATING your "British icon" because she makes so much millions and attracts huge crowds which is exactly the PROOF that she is a POP SINGER performing opera arias as this world is shallow and the majority are SUPERFICIAL.Now StMattew Passion. Halleluja is sung in POP STYLE too!
@12harby You still don't listen tot anything we';re actually saying. Yolu just perfer to think we're attacking your obsession, that we're "haters", and that nobody can sing opera but oper singers. What idiocy. Popera singers can sing opera, they just don't sing it the way it's meant to be sung. POPERA and OPERA: TWO DIFFERENT GENRES that should be kept separate. Choral pieces can be sung by all sorts of choirs, but idewally the soloists should be classicval singers. KJ is not.
@arpeggio1358 Imeant what Serenaluce has again said ,here we have her saying that oritorios are now sung in pop stlyle and only opera singers can put that right .Ithink you could agree that is going to far ,Serenaluce says there are only pop singers and opera singers you say that the the ones in between are popera .I thinkSerenaluce hsa much more absolute purist views than you .I believe you are entitled to your opinion ,Bad as she is Kj was leadoing her her high anglican at 9 .
@12harby Pop singers shouldn't be singing solo roles in oratorios either. This should be left to classical/opera singers. I'm sure KJ was a big deal in her home town at age 9. So are a lot of kids. She's a good pop singer. But when it comes to opera, she's pure popera. Once again, if she'd correct people who refer to her as an opera singer, much of the argument would go away.
@arpeggio1358 By your standards The Royal Academy in London does not meet your excellent criteria of what a classicaly trained graduate should be. Boy your standards over there must be beyond reproach ..It has been said there is such competion by opera singers to get places in opera ,perhaps there are not enough opera houses ,perhaps it is not popular enough .Iwill defend anyone to sing what they want .its freedom .I NEVER SAID KJ WAS AN OPERA SINGER ,it matters to you lot ,We don`t care.final
@12harby I never said the RA doesn't meet my standards. KJ got a TEACHING CREDENTIAL, not a diploma in opera performance ro any other kind of performance. If she took voice lessons there, she didn't pay attention to her teachers. Also, she can sing anything she wants, as I've said repeatedly. She just isn't opera singer material. Opera singers sing roles in complete operas in legit opera houses and don't use mics.
@12harby Why are you back with Domingo? You're way off topic again. I'm not mad at Domingo at all. Once again, I think he's just an old man who likes pretty girls and their boobies. Also he was being polite. Remember how Kiri Te Kanawa got pilloried because she said publcly that the popera singers weren't in the same class as opera singers, even though she spoke the truth? I'm sure most opera singers are very careful about what they say about popera singers now.
@arpeggio1358 She said non of them would last more than18months HWhas been going 10 years kj 7 ,and Boceli umpteen years ,boy did that go down well here in NZ .where HW is as big an icon as she is.the arrogant upyourself opera star.
@12harby Kiri Te Kanawa's comments were very rude and uncalled for. I'm disappointed in her for saying what she did. KJ and HW may be popular but popularity isn't the same as being a great singer. Brilliance often isn't appreciated in a great person's lifetime. Look at Mozart. Once and for all, we're not attacking KJ. We're just saying that she doesn't have what it takes to be an opera singer. Ray Charles was a brilliant performer. He wasn't an opera singer either.
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely, but it seems to me that though we all write comments and reply to each other in ENGLISH, we speak different languages! Harby and VinnyLog understand only what they what to understand showing more and more their IGNORANCE! It's already like a conversation of a blind with a deaf. We only say that all genres are LEGITIMATE and people can enjoy any singer, but should specify that what KJ performs isn't OPERA, but some opera arias in POP STYLE as she is not an OPERA SINGER!
@serenaluce I agree, but harby and vinny aren't going to see this, They prefer to think we're attacking Jenkins, and that we're jealous of her, that we're "haters", and that we hate the U.K.
@12harby By the way, Pavarotti also sang with Bocelli and is responsible for presenting him to the public as a tenor not specifying that he is a pop singer performing in an approximate tenor range, but it still doesn't make Pavarotti a pop singer and Bocelli an opera singer only because they sang TOGETHER! Those who have ears can hear the difference as they sang in a DIFFERENT manner! The same situation is with Domingo and Jenkins! If Domingo sings with her doesn't make HER an OPERA SINGER!!!!!!
@serenaluce Again, I agree completely. Pavarotti sang with a lot of pop and rock singers in his Pavarotti and Friends concerts, but not a single one of them including Bocelli was ever asked to sing in one of Pavarotti's Pavarotti Plus concerts, which were only for opera singers and other classical performers. So Domingo has agreed to sing with KJ. He also sang with Charlotte Church. This doesn't make either KJ or CC opera singers.
I have no hatred about Americans I only think you should all put your house in order first .How many people go to the opera anyway(NY or London as a proportion of the population) .You brought up the elitist argument when it was said only opera singers should be allowed tro sing anything cl;assical .Even if Miss Jenkins had a go at opera you people would never give her a fair go ,admit it your hatred would show through.
I only mentioned Ellen D. was to say you Americans also go crazy about certain people who have no talent in fact you fall on your knees about thhem(like no other country does) .It had nothing to do with that she was gay .I had not thought about it
No matter what you say by your defination HSecombe was a pop singer you cannot change your mind.I doubt his voice was strong enough for opera .loved the man. By the way Kj was a big hit in Argentina .that will get your blood boiling .awful girl final
@12harby Dear, you understood nothing at all of what was said here. You only have pathological hatred towards Americans. It's impossible to reason with you. I wonder how to explain to a blind since birth person what it is to see the light and different colours if all he can see is BLACK?! Who speaks about aristocrasy or blue blood against ghettos? Wake up man! You are just raving! KJ can be the biggest hit anywhere, e.g in Argentina and attract huge crowds as she is a POP SINGER and not opera!!!
You have said it it is about the pure v impure the glorious v inglorious perfect against imperfect rightous against non rightouness ,light v dark aristocrat v serf and so on .
Man the barricades of the self impossed ghetto ,on with the idiological purist struggle against the masses ,in to the self impossed cave ,here they come .From someonewho loves classical music I hate your enclosed vision of opera .
What you hate is someone like Domingo singing with someone like Kj.
All I am saying is that ,millions of us do not care if sh is an opera singer or not .WHAT is so spec ial about opera singers are they a special breed ,are they the annointed ,incidently Sir Harry Secome was By your defination a pop singer ,he is a favourite of mine ,him not being an opera singer does not worry me at all .I think Josh Groban pop singer or not has a great voice ,don`t like all the stuff he sings .I do not care wether some one is gay or not .
@12harby No, you didn't just say this but tried to turn a musical video into a political one about how "evil" Americans hate and envy your British "icon" and how stupid they are, and also you showed your British"supermacy" but in reality your ignorance and intolerance. Yes, opera singers are a special breed and they are annointed in the meaning that it's a very HARD stuff, and it needs not only a pretty face and nice body to sing with a mike even classics, but STRONG VOICE and PROPER TECHNIQUE!
@12harby Ah, but Harry Secombe had the voice to be an opera singer. He chose comedy instead. Josh Groban is a pop singer. What we really resent is that there are opera singers out there who have rigorously trained for years and sacrifice so much and don't have a career because opera is so competitive, but KJ, with an inferior voice and technique has all the acclaim and makes millions. You really don't understand the difference between popularity and true greatness.
@serenaluce As you can see, harby still has no valid arguments, so he keeps going back to how Domingo likes Jenkins and how popular and rich she is and blah, blah, blah, like a broken record. He still isn't even responding to what we're actually saying. Let's depart and leave him to KJ and her boobies.
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely, it's like we are talking about classical ballet dansers who have to learn hard their art for many years, need special talent, perseverance and dedication to become true artists as it's such a difficult stuff and not all the people who can just DANCE something can become BALLET dancers from the academic point of view, but harby says that a somewhat pretty young woman who can please old men by waving her hips in a pop manner to a tune from a ballet is also a BALLERINA!LOL
Perhaps I should have said that Domingo hears better voices each time he visits a conservatory in Wales. Look, I have nothing against the lady. Had Marilyn Monroe been able to sing as well as she does contemporaries such as Maria Callas and Joan Sutherland might never have become especially famous, but it wouldn't have meant that Marilyn was just as good a singer as they were.
A very attractive woman who sings quite nicely, however, even my ear (not geared to classical music) can tell the difference between her singing quality and that of a high level operatic mezzo-soprano. I would imagine that somebody like Domingo hears better voices any time he visits a music conservatory.
@larrydonguy Hey millions of us think her voice is fine people get over it She is a great success ,a girl from Wales Magic in her voice ,who became a great star ,it gets me all the rubbish that eminates from the US and the Americans all want to have a go .
Whhat I want to know is if people like apperigo 1358 dislike artists like KJ so much why do they bother to come on to sites like this it can only to get satisfaction by keep deriding the artists ,and when they no so little about them .KJ has always called herself a crossover classical artist . if you do not like an artist why not say that and leave instead of wanting to pull them down all the time
It must give them pleasure to do so. The superiorty of opera people is amazing
@12harby Please stop this nonsense about American supremacy purpotedly expressed here. You are so arrogant that you don't notice that you sound like a typical British supremacist! You have no musical arguments and just repete somebody's words about KJ. I also think that you are narrow-minded and can not like somebody who openly admits that he or she is gay. If KJ admits that she is cross over why her recordings are sold in the "classics" section then with true opera singers? It's not honest...
@serenaluce Katherine has always said that she is a crossover singer not an opera singer ,it is alright for Americans to pull down a British Icon ,picking up bits from the media which are not true .I am sure there are many so called stars over there you can knock down ,just leave ours alone . There are I am sure good crossover people over there ,Josh Groban being one .
Why do you Americans go for Katherine all the time .I think cos she is so successful ,What harm has she done to you all?
@12harby Dear,if KJ says that she is a crossover why then her albums are sold in the section of "classics" among true opera singers doesn't matter if it's Callas or Pavarotti? Why is she always presented as an OPERA SINGER?Don't try to present her as a poor victim of her bad promoters and she can do nothing about it!You can't answer arpeggio's question why she always sings with a mike?KJ says that her voice hasn't matured enough for it. It's a baby talk! She is mature enough to show her cleavage!
@12harby You try to make it a political issue-poor little doll British icon( I wonder who called her like thatYou? Perhaps it's Susan Boyle?)versus Americans. We talk OPERA here, not politics! I don't give a rat's ass what nationality a SINGER is. I'm Russian living in Canada now. Groban and Rieu are pop too. But KJ is no better than them as no matter where in North America or e.g. in Russian her records are sold among OPERA singers.Nobody says it's bad but it's DISHONEST to sell pop as classics
You could not help but have a go At Katherine Jenkins get over yourselves ,she is here to stay .Pick on one of your artists or is it that Katherines success is not an American one ,she does not need the US is that what upsets you people .
You talk about Domingo having to do what his promotyers say ,He would not sing with her if he
thought she showed him up.You say he is more or less forced to do it. by the same token
Kj does not designate her albums as classical that is done by others.
@12harby Nobody says here that she did harm to us. We just for calling a spade a spade. You began with insults that people who can tell a TRUE OPERA SINGER from a POP SINGER performing classics are all snobs and showed your ignorance about what OPERA is at all and that there are only 15 operas, and then you began to insult US as you don't have any musical arguments. But we just say that you should ADMIT that KJ is POP and continue enjoying her voice and her boobies while she is still young, slim
Do you think that Miss Jenkins fans care wether she sings opera or not NO .It upsets you all that millions of us like her singing .
She has said in the past that she would like to give opera a go ,but as she recently said I still would but Iam having sucha agreat time (and no doubt earning more than she ever would as an opera singer) and meeting lovley people at this time .
May be she would not be any good as an opera singer but many many of us prefer her the way she is singing to millions.
@12harby KJ just should be HONEST and stay in her POP category together with Brightman, Bocelli, Groban, Jaroussky, Vitas, Church, Watson, etc. As I said it's not that she upsets AMERICANS. Get real! I can tear apart everybody if he or she presents themselves as TRUE OPERA SINGERS being just pop if it's Russian Baskov, French Jaroussky or Italian Bocelli. You just hate to hear the TRUTH! What does it prove that millions love her? She is still POP.Millions love fast food as they areTOLD it's good
@serenaluce Where does the gay bit come in ,i am lost ,I think you have lost the arguments ,can you not see people all over the world seemingly except America do not care wether KL is an opera singer or not .you Can`t stand her do not annoy us just go.
@serenaluce Righyt what afutile argument Katherine cannot be in the classical charts because she does not sing opera therefore Andre riu can`t because he has not got a sypmhony orchestra Hayley Westenra she will never sing opera ,Andre Boceli, even an American Josh Groban ,Il Divo ,Ameci, ten tenors 5o tenors 100 tenors Only opera singers , If you set your own standards then Katherine like it or not was Classicaly trained -Classical one cansense the vitriol you write what has she done to you all
@12harby Please don't tell us where we should go. YT is a democratic Institution and everybody is entitled to express their opinion here without personal insults and hatred towards certain countries. If you hate Americans it still doesn't prove that KJ is NOT a pop singer. What is it to do with opera people? You only need EARS to hear that KJ can't sing opera. if you are told that fast food is HEALTHY but you see MILLIONS of obese people eating it your eyes and brains tell you it's LIE.And here?
@12harby You've finally got it. None of these singers are opera singers. KJ may have gone to the R.A., but she didn't listen to her teachers. Opera fans don't set the standards. They were set long ago. Proper vocal technique needs to be observed to sing oepra. KJ doesn't sing with the proper technique.
@arpeggio1358 Katherine Jenkins gives Maria Callas a good run for her money when she performs ''Una voce Poco Fa [Callas aria] on her dvd '' Viva La Diva'' 2008. KJ's breath control is very good and hits those top notes as good as anybody in the classical field. You and jewelmarkess often tell people to checkout such and such well why dont you checkout this performance? However it may not be on youtube I have the dvd which is region 2.
@VinnyLog i've heard Callas in this performance. I've never liked her voice, but she was a real opera singer. JKJ will never be an opera singer with her poor technique and using a microphone. Callas could sing circles around KJ. Again, have you ever attended a live opera?
@karenakjforum Listen to Joyce DiDonato singing this /watch?v=IRzeYK3UcYY . Read subtitles and ask yourself if Katherine actually expresses what she is singing about with her voice and body. If you want more singers, look here for "una voce poco fa contest" - it has many different performances of this aria. She does sound better here then before, but she is still not at opera level, and she lacks expressiveness. An opera aria is more than just a pretty tune, expressiveness is important.
@karenakjforum jewelmarkess is right. Jenkins has no idea what she's singing about...or if she does, she doesn't know how to express it. A real opera singer would express with his or her voice what the lyrics actually say. Opera singers are the Olymipc athletes of the singing world because of their regorous training, the high vocal standards they must adhere to, and the stamina and power it takes to sing a role in a complete opera. KJ has never been invited to sing a role in a complete opera.
@arpeggio1358 Again who cares ,the number of people who love Katherine singing grows every day ,why are opera people so precious its just a form of singing ,not the most important thing in the world .it gets less popular every year ,so who cares only you people!
@12harby First off, opera does not get less popular every year. That's just your wishful thinking. We just don't want people going around saying that popera singers like KJ represent real opera. From your attitude I deduce that you just like looKing at KJ and that you don't have the ear to tell the difference between her and a real opera singer. If you just like looking at a pretty girl, admit it.
@arpeggio1358 Well all our friends like Katherine ,she has a lovley voice ,it does not matter to us that she may never be an opera star and there is a delibrate attempt to discredit KJ by opera fans of this there is no doubt .I actualy have a lot of cd`s of opera arias etc and love them ,because of this we are not supposed to like KJ singing ,sorry we do.
@arpeggio1358 Kj need not be worried about you haters .She has filled concert halls and arenas all over the world .How many opers stars do that night after night. She obtains the highest fees ,is The richest young female artist in the UK Of any genre, would opera singers even Qualify .She is a singer dancer actress tv presenter even part time athlete and is proving to be one of Britains gratest artists for years .Why bother about opera its so small anyway in public perception .its full of snobs.
@12harby I resent being called a snob and a hater. I don't hate KJ. i just don't like her voice. You're the one who is a hater because you obviously hate opera (a genre which you obviously don't understand even if you do have CDs of opera arias. Are these arias sung by real opera singers? Do you have any CDs of complete operas?) and you hate people who disagree with you. Opera may not appeal to everyone, but neither does KJ. Her popularity just proves that people like mediocrity.
@arpeggio1358 How many realy popular operas are there 15 or so I would hate to be tied into such a small genre of music . No wonder the top people do crossover stuff .
@12harby There are many more than 15 fine operas. Some of the really popular ones aren't the best ones. Also, take a look at my channel. You'll see quite an eclectic mix of music there. I'm not tied into one genre. Also, if KJ were 50ish, fat, and unattractive, would you still be listening to her? The crossover material that some opera singers sing (and most of them do it badly) is performed usually in benefit concerts. They don't sing entire concerts of this music.
@12harby I NEVER said that KJ was rubbish, just that she isn't qualified to be an opera singer. You'll notice that neither Domingo nor anyone else has ever invited her to sing a role in a complete opera in a legitimate opera house. Also, you ignored my question. If KJ were 50ish, fat, and unattractive, yould you still listen to her?
@12harby I'll read more of your comments but at this point what you say makes no sense whatsoever. I couldn't agree more with arpeggio and jewelmarkess. Popularity and filling big concert halls is not a synonim of GREATNESS! Mozart died in poverty and was buried in a common grave with vagrants. His family couldn't make ends meet while some other composers who just wrote pleasing primitive tunes lived in luxury.Does it mean that Mozart isn't GREAT!That KJ attracts big crowds only proves she's POP
@12harby Can you read and see what's on this video well or you need glasses for it? Who says that it's rubbish? Arpeggio in her first comment wrote that KJ has improved her technique but she is still a pop singer performing classics with which I fully agree! Can you see that there are only POSITIVE RATINGS on this video?Obviously arpeggio gave her a POSITIVE ONE. How can she be called a HATER and SNOB then! She says in a very polite manner that a pop opera singer and a classical one is DIFFERENT!
Also, why the same argument over and over again about Domingo singing with Jenkins or any other pop singer? He is really an old man being polite with a pretty young woman which became popular and makes a lot of money! In any profession you have to be polite with your collegues especially with those whom bosses like and promote, otherwise nobody will deal with you anymore if you only tell the truth who is talented and who can just please those in power. First educate yourself on how many operas..
@serenaluce I agree. The only opera singer who has spoken out about how she doesn't like the popera singers is Kiri TeKanawa, and people pilloried her and ripped her to shreds over it. No wonder Domingo and others say "polite" things about popera performers.
@arpeggio1358 I agree with you too. 12harby just can't answer your questions. Your channel really shows that you know, understand and appreciate different genres. My channel perhaps doesn't look that way as on YT it's mainly dedicated to promote countertenor singing in the meaning of support but I listen to different genres too. I'm no snob either. Just true opera is different GENRE. It requires BIG, CLASSICALLY TRAINED voice with GOOD BREATH CONTROL and EXPRESSIVENESS. Pop singers don't need it
@serenaluce The popera fans just don't get the difference between popera and opera. They think opera fans are all snobs, and can't realize that we just prefer to hear opera sung by people who have the training and technique to sing roles in complete operas and sing without a mic. I asked harby to look at my channel to see all the different types of music that are there, but he refused to acknowledge it.
@12harby When I was a little girl, my mother bought me a book entitled "100 most popular operas" - it contained synopsis from 100 operas, most of them popular. I thought back then it was everything, but then I found out that many popular operas aren't even in the book. Opera has 600 years of history, and multiple styles - baroque, Mozart, bel canto, Verdi, Wagner, verismo, grand opera, etc. Each of the styles and time period has quite a few popular opera, those less popular are great too.
@12harby Well of course I must be dumb being British born , my humble cd collection can only muster the Symphonys of Mahler,,Beethoven, Brahms -a favourite, the poor old English ones Elgar, Vaughn Williams, Gustav holst the Russian ones ,St Saen ,The music of Wagner The concertos of the above.Including the original recording of Du Pre`s Elgar cello concerto I must admit where are the US ones ,tut tut .i like Rachmaninov . We try to catch up to American culture but we are only europeans.
@arpeggio1358 If you are genuine about just not liking her singing why not just leave her singing alone and leave, or did you just want to add to the vitriol there is by the haters.
@12harby I comment on all sorts of music. Since you only appear to listen to Jenkins, my comments about her are all that you see. Again, take a look at my channel and see how much variety there is in the music that is there. There is some opera, but there's also Broadway, country, jazz, pop. I'm hardly a one genre music snob. Your channel only has KJ on it. You not only listen to just one genre, you only listen to one singer.
@arpeggio1358 Two comments ago 12harby says that he loves some opera cos he has cd's of opera aria's. In this comment you accuse 12harby of hating opera. Does your mind not register or absorb information??? Youre so busy saying what you want to say that you miss the chance to learn something.
@VinnyLog NOBODY said that harby hates opera. That's all in your head. Having CDs of opera arias is not the same thing as having complete opera recordings and attending live operas.
@12harby Popularity and financial success isn't the same as greatness. Mozart wasn't the most popular composer of his time, but we don't even know or care who the most popular composers were. Today, Britney Spears and Miley Sirus both fill concert halls and arenas, so did Madonna at one time - do you consider them great? Bizet's Carmen was booed at its premiere. Many a great composers died poor. Financial success may is meaningless in classical music.
@jewelmarkess Again, I agree completely with you. 12harby needs to learn the difference between popularity and greatness. The two are not synonymous. Good points too about Mozart and Carmen.
@jewelmarkess Kj has never ever said she is an opera singer I think you will find that it is mostly the media that call her that .She is in fact a classicaly trained singer (Royal Academy London) where she obtained A honours degree and a diploma in teaching ,she was a member of the Royal Society of Church music and cathedral singers for 6 years where she obtained its highest award the St Cecilia award.
I am aware of course that Britain never has had the wonderful culture of the us ,they try.
@12harby Nobody is knocking British culture. We're just saying that one singer, KJ, isn't an opera singer. KJ doesn't correct people when they call her an opera singer. Also, isn't it strange that KJ wasn't graduated from the R.A. with a degree in opera performance? That's because they7 didn't deem her qualified to be an opera singer.
@arpeggio1358 Got it only opera people are allowed to sing opera ,Therefore only pop singers sing pop rock singers sing rock country sing c ountry ,hop hip only allowed to sing hip hop ,jazz sing jazz soul sing soul .No one musical theatre unless they do one .Then no .You are the anointed ,the special few,the chosen ones,The band of brothers (sorry kj thats one of yours) you alone can do arias .Naw defy them Katherine ,you also Hayley Andrea etc. let freedom ring ,sorry sing.
@12harby You simply do not understand what I'm saying. You hear only wehat you want to hear because you're on a crusade to support KJ. i'm not going to talk to you anymore, as you aren't responding to what i'm actually saying. Once and for all, I don't hate KJ. i just don't like her voice. This discussion is pointless. You simply won't hear what I'm saying and you twist my words around so that you can cast yourself in the role of KJ's saviour.
@12harby You really have a bee in your bonnet about some US and British rivalry when that is not what the other posters are talking about at all! And for yor information, she has called herself an opera singer in the past on her website so get your facts straight. You also really need to listen to what others are saying because your responses make no sense.
@clevercloggs77 I don't think he's ever going to listen to us. He hears only what he wants to hear. He rails on about Americans, Russians, whatever when attacking nationalities does nothing to prove his point about KJ. He has no valid arguments to give. He adores KJ and can't stand to hear anyone say anything against her. She's a pop singer who sings opera arias and he can't accept that.
@arpeggio1358 I couldn't agree more with you here. If 12harby didn't talk so much about somewhat artificially madeup British-US rivalry I wouldn't even notice it:-).It's a musical video and we talk MUSIC and SINGERS here, compare different versions, talk about opera, true operatic style, who is a classically trained singer and who is a pop singer like Jenkins just performing isolated opera arias. These are just different genres. Rock ,heavy metal and pop stars make more money. Are they greater?
@12harby Opera doesn't get less popular ever year, in fact the Met sold more tickets last year than before, and the average age of the Met-goer is down. If you don't know opera and don't care about opera, why do you insist of calling Jenkins an "opera singer"? Why does she call herself "classical" singer (notice, she doesn't say "classical crossover") or claims that she might sing opera one day? Call her a classical crossover singer or popera singer, and most arguments would go away.
@jewelmarkess I agree completely. Also, KJ needs to stop saying that she needs to use a microphone because her voice hasn't matured enough to sing without one. If she would stop saying things like this and, as you say, call herself a classical crossover or popera singer, most of the aruguments would go away.
@jewelmarkess The metropolitan must be the world pinnicle of culture you Americans talk about it all the time ,of course nothing elsewhere can match it ,its American of course ,then theres the NY Phill. No one else can remotly come near ,London forget your BBC sym.Royal Phill, London Phill, New phill , St mart acad.Orc hand all the other world class orch you have ,how can you match the Met its brought up all the time by the americans.Oh I think you will just have to do your best Brits.
@12harby This is funny how I don't see anywhere in my comment anything about comparison of opera theaters or about the Met being the best. I happen to live near NYC, so I know a little about attendance at the Met. Given as I don't know anything about the attendance in the ROH, I can't comment on that. Also last time I checked the conversation was about opera. But if you really listen to all these great composers you mention, you'd know that greatness and popularity isn't the same.
@12harby How did this conversation degenreate into calling jewelmarkess and me some sort of "American supremacists"? We've said nothing to indicate that we think America and American music culture is superior to that of the U.K. You really aren't listening to what we've been saying.
@arpeggio1358 You did not deny that opera singers think they are the only ones allowed to sing an opera item ,you perhaps do not want to admit it .Yet in any other genre of music people from different musical backgrounds are allowed to crossover asit where ,except the opera crowd are you so precious that you do not allow anyone to sing your stuff.
No wonder you are regarded as the most snobby lot in music . I enjoy opera but not the people from it ,this is the 21st century ,join it.
@12harby Singers other than opera singers are welcome to sing opera arias. I just don't like the voices of the popera singers. On the other hand, opera singers almost all sound terrible when they try to crossover into other genres. Their big, classically trained voices sound ridiculous in other genres. Also, you did not answer my question about whether or not you would still listen to KJ if she were old, fat, and unattractive.
@12harby (Part 2) Also, have you checked out my channel yet and have you seen the variety of music that is there: country, rock, Broadway, jazz, pop? I'm hardly a music snob. You keep calling me a music snob, but the truth is that I listen to all sorts of music and enjoy it. You aren't listening to me. You simply go on calling me a snob when you have no facts to back up your assertion.
@arpeggio1358 When my wife and i discovered Katherine it was on an album which showed very little of her ,we and our friends were amazed by the lovley voice ,which many people in the world think conveys wonderful natural emotion .You do not lots do.
The English opera Singer Lesley Garrett when asked about Katherine and others singing opera replied its gets people listening to good music ,whats wrong with that .She is a lovley person to and a lovley voice .mind you she is a northern lass.
@12harby I suspect Garrett was being diplomatic. If KJ gets people to want to explore the world of opera that's fine. How do you know KJ is a lovely person? Do you know her personally? I used to work for an actor. His fans loved him, thought he was a lovely person. He was actually a nasty, self-centered, abusive monster. I got tired of his abuse and pretending to his fans that he was a nice person, and quit working for him. You never know what a celebrity is like unless you know them personally.
@arpeggio1358 I said Lg is a nice person .I have just looked up Kj on twitter guess wqhat dhe calls herself -classical crossover singer. As for medicore is not mediocore the accepted norm for American stars .You have a woman called Ellen on tv withno talent at all gyrates and the Audience fawn over she says 2 words and they shake there hands fall on the floor and have Hysterics . Record promo David foster reckons Miss Jenkins is the no1 singing artist in the world, mind you he is Canadian.
awww..that was cute..good try..LOL
If she just went back to school, in like 2 or 3 years she could have a nice operatic voice.

Very, very, very beautiful girl. You can turn the sound off and still have fun!!!!!!!!! )))))))
ZynapsUA 2 weeks ago
Beautiful voice, pretty women. But I dont like her high notes. And not just by this aria. Her high notes are not the best. Okay, she is a popera singer, but she can sing opera arias in theory , so she use classical technics. I don't think it is an "excuse" that she is not a real opera singer. What about Andrea Bocelli or Sarah Brightman? They are also popera singers, and they sing well opera arias. Btw. I really like Katherine's voice.

If you did not have a microphone as we could then we hear and see on the Internet.
It is not a theater of 'Opera, but a transmission and a microfone is required otherwise it is silent.

By the way she is a Classical crossover singer lol
mjhart123 1 month ago

To all of the negative critics out there, shut up and go do better if you think you can.
outthr 2 months ago
I think it does not matter is she an opera or popera singer .... If it her task to sing an opera aria then sing that one she can sing very well.... BTW there is Andrea Bocelli.. and Sarah Brightman, too... They are not opera singers, but much more better... In my opinion Katherine J. has a really good voice, I really like it, and she is very talented. She's not bad, but not so good in opera arias... She has a gorgeous voice, but she should study a lot to be really good at opera arias.
bpetii1 3 months ago
@bpetii1 She doesn't have the voice or technique to be an opera singer. She got a teaching credential, not a degree in vocal performance. Apparently, she ignored what her voice teachers tried to teach her or she is incapable of singing with correct technique. I'm delighted that you realize that Jenkins, Brightman, and Bocelli are not opera singers. Neither are Russell Watson, Paul Potts, Charlotte Church, or Filippa Giordano.
arpeggio1358 3 months ago
I think your all biased because of the way she looks--to all the negative comments- I studied singing and know that her singing is GREAT.

Charlotte Church isn't as bad, her technique was quite good and she was very advanced but had lots and lots of bad habits. it's a shame really.
tomcane8 7 months ago
What a total mess. She has no high notes, no coloratura, no breathing reserve, no technique, not intonation, a huge flapping vibrato, and terrible Italian diction (...e centoi traipoile, primai di ceidere...). Must have learned the aria phonetically. What the hell is she doing here or in any kind of singing venue? To call her an opera singer, when she has never sung a stage role, is beyond ridiculous. All I get is a pretty face and plastic tits. Send her to an escort agency where she belongs.
philipc67 7 months ago
@philipc67 Wow, you are from Greece! I'm originally from Russia. I like Callas very much, some people can like her less, but she is a true opera singer no matter if someone can not like her timbre and not all her roles. But compare this pop nonsense Jenkins with fake boobies and fake voice with great Callas and say that she is also opera singer and opera now is democratic but we are elitists is ridiculous! It's not about Americans versus Britain like our "buddy" harby thinks and keeps raving!LOL

All these people you condem not one yank.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby I mentioned American, Josh Groban as someone whose voice I don't like. Go back and read. You seem to see only what you want to see. Jackie Evancho never came up in the conversation, but I don't like the commercialization of this little girl. She needs a good teacher or her voice will be damaged. Her parents seem to want to push her into a career and that's the worst thing about the situation. It's too early to judge what her voice will be like as an adult.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely. I can't stand this commercialization of Jackie Evancho either no matter from what country I am:-). I'm Russian living in Canada. So, if I dislike SOME American pop singers some obsessed people like harby can say that it's Russians against Americans! LOL But we are both normal people and take it as exchange of opinions among LISTENERS!:-) Evancho isn't an OPERA SINGER yet as promoters present her for MONEY. She is a little girl who has an amazing ability to IMMITATE....
serenaluce 7 months ago
But people make money on anything and like sensations. Evancho DOESN'T sing as a MATURE WOMAN. harby implies that she COULD be the next great mezzo soprano. But she is a little girl now and it's against her NATURE to sing as a mature opera singer yet. It's pure pop too if a little girl imitates a woman, like a woman imitates a girl. Her place is in shows like America's got talent for now. She really needs a good teacher, otherwise all this hype and explotation of her can soon destroy her voice.
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce Once again we're in complete agreement. Jackie is a little kid, nobody knows what her voice will be like when she grows up. Apparently, her parents don't want her to be an oepra singer, but rather a pop and popera singer...probably because she can make so much money. She's have to train for many years to be an opera singer and then she probably wouldn't make the kind of money she can make singing pop. It's sad that parents push their kids into stuff like this.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 give Jackie until she's about 25. Her voice will be shot if she keeps singing the way she is. Her career will simply come crashing down.
tomcane8 7 months ago
@12harby Buddy, your obsession with KJ is really already frightening and makes no sense. You could scare your idol to death if you met her in person. That's why such pop artists have to hire body guards to defend themselves from such FANS like you! Get real! What's wrong with calling her a POP SINGER performing classics? It's just a statement, not insult. Why do you continue turning this video into a POLITICAL case of Americans against Britain?Stop insulting COUNTRIES! It's exchange of OPINIONS!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby Just to be fair, I don't like the voices of Bocelli, Brightman, Watson, Potts, Giordano, Westenra, Groban, Church, and the other popera performers for the same reasons as I dislike KJ's voice. @12harby It seems we share many favorite people. I already sent you a list of people frm the U.K. that I admire, so you know there are many of them. It still remains that you made some pretty nasty attacks on my country while I didn't attack yours at all.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Of course per capita you have not that much culture well the freakier you are the more weird the better it is . And that is why those who follow an art form make out themselves to be above the rest.
Listen buster I grew up in an area where culture is all around where working people took it for granted to be interested in singing playing acting ,it still is part of life .If time and again all you have to say is to put down grow up.You are not commenting you aim to destroy.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Buddy, calm down! All you say makes no sense whatsoever! First you singled out serenaluce then arpeggio who is not here to DESTROY but to express OPINION that your beloved Jenkins isn't an OPERA SINGER but a POP SINGER! YT was created this way to give people such an opportunity to discuss and argue what is true and what is just commercial as people make money anywhere! If you can't tell a cubic circonia from GENIUINE DIAMOND continue liking it but don't be offended that some CAN tell!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce harby really is obsessedf with KJ, and it's beginning to sound very scary. I used to work for an actor, and I know a thing or two about obsessed fans.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby Stop insulting me and my country. Just because I don't like KJ's voice you rip me apart and rip my country apart. All you ever do is put down me and my country. This isn't about the U.S. It's about the fact that I don't like Jenkins's voice. You are the one who aims to destroy. You try to discredit me by slamming my country. You have no idea what you're talkign about. I don't attack your country. You're the one who needs to grow up.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby anyone who follows this discussion can see that serenaluce and I never said anything bad about the U.K. We just don't like KJ's voice and have given the reasons why.Others have agreed with us. You're embarrassing yourself with your anti U.S. rants. They have nothing to do with KJ's voice. The u.K. has a distinguished cultural tradition. Also, noteveryone in the U.S. is a culturally deprived idiot. You embarrass yourself when you say these things. I feel sorry for you.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Thank you, and may I remind all the illiterates out there that I/We are not haters. I have knowledge, education, listening experience, and plain common sense on my side. Current ignorant and tasteless audiences and critics alike pay attention to so-called "opera singers" like Jenkins, Giordano, Watson, Bocelli, Brightman, Potts, Evancho et al. They are all fake, mediocre to say the least. An opera artist is judged ON STAGE, not cheap concerts and TESCO compilation discs. Wake up!
philipc67 7 months ago
@philipc67 I think you've made the definitive comment on all of this. Thank you.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@philipc67 Absolutely.Couldn't agree more with you here! We are not haters! And this shitty tendency to present POP SINGERS performing opera arias without proper technique just to attract more people to the theatre and concert halls to make more money is very bad! It destroys real opera and distorts taste as the majority hear only such crap. But the worst thing now is that such fakes like Bocelli are invited to opera productions like Jaroussky too and recorded with opera singers and sold as OPERA
serenaluce 7 months ago
Harby, as YT is changing and glitching again I canèt reply to your comment but you have nothing else to do in your life but drool over KJ boobies and barby face and rave on her videos, so youèll come here again and read my reply to you. Dear, you have not only total operatic ignorance but a big mental problem as well if you donèt understand at all what I say and just LIE! You think that other people are idiots and canèt read what I actually said! Where did I say ALL choral works...in pop style!
serenaluce 7 months ago
Serenaluce. you are saying that all choral works are sung in pop style and only opera sigers can put that right ,boy you must be on the far right of the opera lot an absolute purist . do not think all opera people will agree with you ,out goes even the Salt Lake city Tabernacle Choir ,the Kings college Choir .What absolute rubbish .
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby The Mormon Tabernacle Chior has high vocal standards for admission as does the Kings College Choir. Many of the KCC singers are training to be professional classical or opera singers. Both choirs have sung with professional opera singers as guest soloists. These are professional quality choirs. Also Serenaluce is right, you haven't given any valid evidence that KJ sings with proper vocal technique.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby Please give us proof that KJ sings with proper vocal technique and breathing. Be specific. Also popera singers aren't in between pop singers and opera singers. Popera singers ARE pop singers who also sing isolated opera arias, rather than singing roles in complete operas in legit opera houses the way opera singers do. Popera singers don't have the voices or technique to be opera singers.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago 6
@arpeggio1358 ive researched the conservatoires of the UK as I'm currently studying in one at the moment. The Royal Academy is not the best place for vocal tuition but that's not to say it is not good. However, Katherine Jenkins was a lot better when she was at the Royal Academy. Her vocal teacher after the academy was from The Royal Welsh College of Music and has bascally destroyed her voice. Therefore, Katherine Jenkins has a lack of good technique, hence she's a crap singer. i agree with u.
tomcane8 7 months ago
@tomcane8 This teacher must hve started working with her right after the R.A. as she hs had technique problems all along since school. I wonder if that unpleasant vibrato and bad breathing developed right after school. Didn't she have enough sense to know this teacher was damaging her voice? I just wish she's stay away from opera arias.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely, at last there are here some other people who make reasonable comments about KJ's technique, terrible high notes, coloratura and Italian. Her vibrato is just awful! She has no sense of style as an opera singer, but as a pop singer she can entertain people who don't know much about opera and don't care with her visceral singing and pretty shape and face which many find appealing. We don't say that it's bad but just DIFFERENT genres. It's NOT opera. KJ doesn't belong there
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce You're right, she shouldn't be singing opera. BTW, tomcane8 whose comment you see here, is a student studying singing and knows what he's talking about. He agrees with us about KJ.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Agreed. And philipc67 is right too. We are not haters. We just comment on what artists do on stage and what image they create. I don't understand why people are so offended when a spade is called a spade? What's so bad to be a POP singer? But if KJ sang pure pop repertoire she would be compared with e.g. Rihanna or Aguillera. If she ventures to sing classics she is compared with OPERA SINGERS, and there are enough people who can tell the difference! What's here to do with hatred?!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 i actually heard a recording of her while she was at the academy and it sounded fantastic until she met her new teacher. i can probably explain all of her problems. Fast vibrato is a result of a lot of vocal chord tension, breathy sound is a result of bad breath control and she is not technically skilled enough to sing this aria. She strains a lot and her top C at the end is absoultely disgusting. Her vowelling is also very poor with very crap Italian pronunciation.
tomcane8 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 she does actually have all the techniques as she learnt them when doing her degree at royal academy of music, however she must choose not to
bookloverholic 2 months ago
@bookloverholic I think it more likely that she was unable to learn to sing with proper technique. BTW, she has a teaching credential from the R.A., not a degree in vocal or opera performance. At any rate, her technique is quite horrible.
arpeggio1358 2 months ago
Kiri has forgotten where she came from where.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Come on, all your arguments is rubbish.First instead of giving any musical arguments why you think that Jenkins sings this piece "Una voce poco fa" with proper technique, style you began to accuse all Americans of HATING your "British icon" because she makes so much millions and attracts huge crowds which is exactly the PROOF that she is a POP SINGER performing opera arias as this world is shallow and the majority are SUPERFICIAL.Now StMattew Passion. Halleluja is sung in POP STYLE too!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby You still don't listen tot anything we';re actually saying. Yolu just perfer to think we're attacking your obsession, that we're "haters", and that nobody can sing opera but oper singers. What idiocy. Popera singers can sing opera, they just don't sing it the way it's meant to be sung. POPERA and OPERA: TWO DIFFERENT GENRES that should be kept separate. Choral pieces can be sung by all sorts of choirs, but idewally the soloists should be classicval singers. KJ is not.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Imeant what Serenaluce has again said ,here we have her saying that oritorios are now sung in pop stlyle and only opera singers can put that right .Ithink you could agree that is going to far ,Serenaluce says there are only pop singers and opera singers you say that the the ones in between are popera .I thinkSerenaluce hsa much more absolute purist views than you .I believe you are entitled to your opinion ,Bad as she is Kj was leadoing her her high anglican at 9 .
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Pop singers shouldn't be singing solo roles in oratorios either. This should be left to classical/opera singers. I'm sure KJ was a big deal in her home town at age 9. So are a lot of kids. She's a good pop singer. But when it comes to opera, she's pure popera. Once again, if she'd correct people who refer to her as an opera singer, much of the argument would go away.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 By your standards The Royal Academy in London does not meet your excellent criteria of what a classicaly trained graduate should be. Boy your standards over there must be beyond reproach ..It has been said there is such competion by opera singers to get places in opera ,perhaps there are not enough opera houses ,perhaps it is not popular enough .Iwill defend anyone to sing what they want .its freedom .I NEVER SAID KJ WAS AN OPERA SINGER ,it matters to you lot ,We don`t care.final
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby I never said the RA doesn't meet my standards. KJ got a TEACHING CREDENTIAL, not a diploma in opera performance ro any other kind of performance. If she took voice lessons there, she didn't pay attention to her teachers. Also, she can sing anything she wants, as I've said repeatedly. She just isn't opera singer material. Opera singers sing roles in complete operas in legit opera houses and don't use mics.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
Last last word You lot must be absolutly livid with dOMINGO ,THE STUPID MAN...
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Why are you back with Domingo? You're way off topic again. I'm not mad at Domingo at all. Once again, I think he's just an old man who likes pretty girls and their boobies. Also he was being polite. Remember how Kiri Te Kanawa got pilloried because she said publcly that the popera singers weren't in the same class as opera singers, even though she spoke the truth? I'm sure most opera singers are very careful about what they say about popera singers now.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 She said non of them would last more than18months HWhas been going 10 years kj 7 ,and Boceli umpteen years ,boy did that go down well here in NZ .where HW is as big an icon as she is.the arrogant upyourself opera star.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Kiri Te Kanawa's comments were very rude and uncalled for. I'm disappointed in her for saying what she did. KJ and HW may be popular but popularity isn't the same as being a great singer. Brilliance often isn't appreciated in a great person's lifetime. Look at Mozart. Once and for all, we're not attacking KJ. We're just saying that she doesn't have what it takes to be an opera singer. Ray Charles was a brilliant performer. He wasn't an opera singer either.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely, but it seems to me that though we all write comments and reply to each other in ENGLISH, we speak different languages! Harby and VinnyLog understand only what they what to understand showing more and more their IGNORANCE! It's already like a conversation of a blind with a deaf. We only say that all genres are LEGITIMATE and people can enjoy any singer, but should specify that what KJ performs isn't OPERA, but some opera arias in POP STYLE as she is not an OPERA SINGER!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce I agree, but harby and vinny aren't going to see this, They prefer to think we're attacking Jenkins, and that we're jealous of her, that we're "haters", and that we hate the U.K.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby By the way, Pavarotti also sang with Bocelli and is responsible for presenting him to the public as a tenor not specifying that he is a pop singer performing in an approximate tenor range, but it still doesn't make Pavarotti a pop singer and Bocelli an opera singer only because they sang TOGETHER! Those who have ears can hear the difference as they sang in a DIFFERENT manner! The same situation is with Domingo and Jenkins! If Domingo sings with her doesn't make HER an OPERA SINGER!!!!!!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce Again, I agree completely. Pavarotti sang with a lot of pop and rock singers in his Pavarotti and Friends concerts, but not a single one of them including Bocelli was ever asked to sing in one of Pavarotti's Pavarotti Plus concerts, which were only for opera singers and other classical performers. So Domingo has agreed to sing with KJ. He also sang with Charlotte Church. This doesn't make either KJ or CC opera singers.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
I have no hatred about Americans I only think you should all put your house in order first .How many people go to the opera anyway(NY or London as a proportion of the population) .You brought up the elitist argument when it was said only opera singers should be allowed tro sing anything cl;assical .Even if Miss Jenkins had a go at opera you people would never give her a fair go ,admit it your hatred would show through.
12harby 7 months ago
I only mentioned Ellen D. was to say you Americans also go crazy about certain people who have no talent in fact you fall on your knees about thhem(like no other country does) .It had nothing to do with that she was gay .I had not thought about it
No matter what you say by your defination HSecombe was a pop singer you cannot change your mind.I doubt his voice was strong enough for opera .loved the man. By the way Kj was a big hit in Argentina .that will get your blood boiling .awful girl final
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Dear, you understood nothing at all of what was said here. You only have pathological hatred towards Americans. It's impossible to reason with you. I wonder how to explain to a blind since birth person what it is to see the light and different colours if all he can see is BLACK?! Who speaks about aristocrasy or blue blood against ghettos? Wake up man! You are just raving! KJ can be the biggest hit anywhere, e.g in Argentina and attract huge crowds as she is a POP SINGER and not opera!!!
serenaluce 7 months ago
You have said it it is about the pure v impure the glorious v inglorious perfect against imperfect rightous against non rightouness ,light v dark aristocrat v serf and so on .
Man the barricades of the self impossed ghetto ,on with the idiological purist struggle against the masses ,in to the self impossed cave ,here they come .From someonewho loves classical music I hate your enclosed vision of opera .
What you hate is someone like Domingo singing with someone like Kj.
12harby 7 months ago
All I am saying is that ,millions of us do not care if sh is an opera singer or not .WHAT is so spec ial about opera singers are they a special breed ,are they the annointed ,incidently Sir Harry Secome was By your defination a pop singer ,he is a favourite of mine ,him not being an opera singer does not worry me at all .I think Josh Groban pop singer or not has a great voice ,don`t like all the stuff he sings .I do not care wether some one is gay or not .
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby No, you didn't just say this but tried to turn a musical video into a political one about how "evil" Americans hate and envy your British "icon" and how stupid they are, and also you showed your British"supermacy" but in reality your ignorance and intolerance. Yes, opera singers are a special breed and they are annointed in the meaning that it's a very HARD stuff, and it needs not only a pretty face and nice body to sing with a mike even classics, but STRONG VOICE and PROPER TECHNIQUE!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby Ah, but Harry Secombe had the voice to be an opera singer. He chose comedy instead. Josh Groban is a pop singer. What we really resent is that there are opera singers out there who have rigorously trained for years and sacrifice so much and don't have a career because opera is so competitive, but KJ, with an inferior voice and technique has all the acclaim and makes millions. You really don't understand the difference between popularity and true greatness.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Couldn't agree more with you here!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce As you can see, harby still has no valid arguments, so he keeps going back to how Domingo likes Jenkins and how popular and rich she is and blah, blah, blah, like a broken record. He still isn't even responding to what we're actually saying. Let's depart and leave him to KJ and her boobies.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Absolutely, it's like we are talking about classical ballet dansers who have to learn hard their art for many years, need special talent, perseverance and dedication to become true artists as it's such a difficult stuff and not all the people who can just DANCE something can become BALLET dancers from the academic point of view, but harby says that a somewhat pretty young woman who can please old men by waving her hips in a pop manner to a tune from a ballet is also a BALLERINA!LOL
serenaluce 7 months ago
Perhaps I should have said that Domingo hears better voices each time he visits a conservatory in Wales. Look, I have nothing against the lady. Had Marilyn Monroe been able to sing as well as she does contemporaries such as Maria Callas and Joan Sutherland might never have become especially famous, but it wouldn't have meant that Marilyn was just as good a singer as they were.
larrydonguy 7 months ago
A very attractive woman who sings quite nicely, however, even my ear (not geared to classical music) can tell the difference between her singing quality and that of a high level operatic mezzo-soprano. I would imagine that somebody like Domingo hears better voices any time he visits a music conservatory.
larrydonguy 7 months ago 2

It's not honest...
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce Katherine has always said that she is a crossover singer not an opera singer ,it is alright for Americans to pull down a British Icon ,picking up bits from the media which are not true .I am sure there are many so called stars over there you can knock down ,just leave ours alone . There are I am sure good crossover people over there ,Josh Groban being one .
Why do you Americans go for Katherine all the time .I think cos she is so successful ,What harm has she done to you all?
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Dear,if KJ says that she is a crossover why then her albums are sold in the section of "classics" among true opera singers doesn't matter if it's Callas or Pavarotti? Why is she always presented as an OPERA SINGER?Don't try to present her as a poor victim of her bad promoters and she can do nothing about it!You can't answer arpeggio's question why she always sings with a mike?KJ says that her voice hasn't matured enough for it. It's a baby talk! She is mature enough to show her cleavage!
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby You try to make it a political issue-poor little doll British icon( I wonder who called her like thatYou? Perhaps it's Susan Boyle?)versus Americans. We talk OPERA here, not politics! I don't give a rat's ass what nationality a SINGER is. I'm Russian living in Canada now. Groban and Rieu are pop too. But KJ is no better than them as no matter where in North America or e.g. in Russian her records are sold among OPERA singers.Nobody says it's bad but it's DISHONEST to sell pop as classics
serenaluce 7 months ago
You could not help but have a go At Katherine Jenkins get over yourselves ,she is here to stay .Pick on one of your artists or is it that Katherines success is not an American one ,she does not need the US is that what upsets you people .
You talk about Domingo having to do what his promotyers say ,He would not sing with her if he
thought she showed him up.You say he is more or less forced to do it. by the same token
Kj does not designate her albums as classical that is done by others.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Nobody says here that she did harm to us. We just for calling a spade a spade. You began with insults that people who can tell a TRUE OPERA SINGER from a POP SINGER performing classics are all snobs and showed your ignorance about what OPERA is at all and that there are only 15 operas, and then you began to insult US as you don't have any musical arguments. But we just say that you should ADMIT that KJ is POP and continue enjoying her voice and her boobies while she is still young, slim
serenaluce 7 months ago
Do you think that Miss Jenkins fans care wether she sings opera or not NO .It upsets you all that millions of us like her singing .
She has said in the past that she would like to give opera a go ,but as she recently said I still would but Iam having sucha agreat time (and no doubt earning more than she ever would as an opera singer) and meeting lovley people at this time .
May be she would not be any good as an opera singer but many many of us prefer her the way she is singing to millions.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby KJ just should be HONEST and stay in her POP category together with Brightman, Bocelli, Groban, Jaroussky, Vitas, Church, Watson, etc. As I said it's not that she upsets AMERICANS. Get real! I can tear apart everybody if he or she presents themselves as TRUE OPERA SINGERS being just pop if it's Russian Baskov, French Jaroussky or Italian Bocelli. You just hate to hear the TRUTH! What does it prove that millions love her? She is still POP.Millions love fast food as they areTOLD it's good
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce Where does the gay bit come in ,i am lost ,I think you have lost the arguments ,can you not see people all over the world seemingly except America do not care wether KL is an opera singer or not .you Can`t stand her do not annoy us just go.
12harby 7 months ago
@serenaluce Righyt what afutile argument Katherine cannot be in the classical charts because she does not sing opera therefore Andre riu can`t because he has not got a sypmhony orchestra Hayley Westenra she will never sing opera ,Andre Boceli, even an American Josh Groban ,Il Divo ,Ameci, ten tenors 5o tenors 100 tenors Only opera singers , If you set your own standards then Katherine like it or not was Classicaly trained -Classical one cansense the vitriol you write what has she done to you all
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Please don't tell us where we should go. YT is a democratic Institution and everybody is entitled to express their opinion here without personal insults and hatred towards certain countries. If you hate Americans it still doesn't prove that KJ is NOT a pop singer. What is it to do with opera people? You only need EARS to hear that KJ can't sing opera. if you are told that fast food is HEALTHY but you see MILLIONS of obese people eating it your eyes and brains tell you it's LIE.And here?
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby You've finally got it. None of these singers are opera singers. KJ may have gone to the R.A., but she didn't listen to her teachers. Opera fans don't set the standards. They were set long ago. Proper vocal technique needs to be observed to sing oepra. KJ doesn't sing with the proper technique.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Katherine Jenkins gives Maria Callas a good run for her money when she performs ''Una voce Poco Fa [Callas aria] on her dvd '' Viva La Diva'' 2008. KJ's breath control is very good and hits those top notes as good as anybody in the classical field. You and jewelmarkess often tell people to checkout such and such well why dont you checkout this performance? However it may not be on youtube I have the dvd which is region 2.
VinnyLog 7 months ago
@VinnyLog i've heard Callas in this performance. I've never liked her voice, but she was a real opera singer. JKJ will never be an opera singer with her poor technique and using a microphone. Callas could sing circles around KJ. Again, have you ever attended a live opera?
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
With or without a microphone 6 mins of vocal gymnastics I think Katherine's voice is amazing
karenakjforum 8 months ago
@karenakjforum Listen to Joyce DiDonato singing this /watch?v=IRzeYK3UcYY . Read subtitles and ask yourself if Katherine actually expresses what she is singing about with her voice and body. If you want more singers, look here for "una voce poco fa contest" - it has many different performances of this aria. She does sound better here then before, but she is still not at opera level, and she lacks expressiveness. An opera aria is more than just a pretty tune, expressiveness is important.
jewelmarkess 7 months ago
@karenakjforum jewelmarkess is right. Jenkins has no idea what she's singing about...or if she does, she doesn't know how to express it. A real opera singer would express with his or her voice what the lyrics actually say. Opera singers are the Olymipc athletes of the singing world because of their regorous training, the high vocal standards they must adhere to, and the stamina and power it takes to sing a role in a complete opera. KJ has never been invited to sing a role in a complete opera.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Again who cares ,the number of people who love Katherine singing grows every day ,why are opera people so precious its just a form of singing ,not the most important thing in the world .it gets less popular every year ,so who cares only you people!
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby First off, opera does not get less popular every year. That's just your wishful thinking. We just don't want people going around saying that popera singers like KJ represent real opera. From your attitude I deduce that you just like looKing at KJ and that you don't have the ear to tell the difference between her and a real opera singer. If you just like looking at a pretty girl, admit it.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Well all our friends like Katherine ,she has a lovley voice ,it does not matter to us that she may never be an opera star and there is a delibrate attempt to discredit KJ by opera fans of this there is no doubt .I actualy have a lot of cd`s of opera arias etc and love them ,because of this we are not supposed to like KJ singing ,sorry we do.
12harby 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Kj need not be worried about you haters .She has filled concert halls and arenas all over the world .How many opers stars do that night after night. She obtains the highest fees ,is The richest young female artist in the UK Of any genre, would opera singers even Qualify .She is a singer dancer actress tv presenter even part time athlete and is proving to be one of Britains gratest artists for years .Why bother about opera its so small anyway in public perception .its full of snobs.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby I resent being called a snob and a hater. I don't hate KJ. i just don't like her voice. You're the one who is a hater because you obviously hate opera (a genre which you obviously don't understand even if you do have CDs of opera arias. Are these arias sung by real opera singers? Do you have any CDs of complete operas?) and you hate people who disagree with you. Opera may not appeal to everyone, but neither does KJ. Her popularity just proves that people like mediocrity.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 How many realy popular operas are there 15 or so I would hate to be tied into such a small genre of music . No wonder the top people do crossover stuff .

@12harby There are many more than 15 fine operas. Some of the really popular ones aren't the best ones. Also, take a look at my channel. You'll see quite an eclectic mix of music there. I'm not tied into one genre. Also, if KJ were 50ish, fat, and unattractive, would you still be listening to her? The crossover material that some opera singers sing (and most of them do it badly) is performed usually in benefit concerts. They don't sing entire concerts of this music.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 I maintain that Mr Domingo would not sing with her if she was absolute rubbish as you say.

@12harby I NEVER said that KJ was rubbish, just that she isn't qualified to be an opera singer. You'll notice that neither Domingo nor anyone else has ever invited her to sing a role in a complete opera in a legitimate opera house. Also, you ignored my question. If KJ were 50ish, fat, and unattractive, yould you still listen to her?
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby I'll read more of your comments but at this point what you say makes no sense whatsoever. I couldn't agree more with arpeggio and jewelmarkess. Popularity and filling big concert halls is not a synonim of GREATNESS! Mozart died in poverty and was buried in a common grave with vagrants. His family couldn't make ends meet while some other composers who just wrote pleasing primitive tunes lived in luxury.Does it mean that Mozart isn't GREAT!That KJ attracts big crowds only proves she's POP
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby Can you read and see what's on this video well or you need glasses for it? Who says that it's rubbish? Arpeggio in her first comment wrote that KJ has improved her technique but she is still a pop singer performing classics with which I fully agree! Can you see that there are only POSITIVE RATINGS on this video?Obviously arpeggio gave her a POSITIVE ONE. How can she be called a HATER and SNOB then! She says in a very polite manner that a pop opera singer and a classical one is DIFFERENT!
serenaluce 7 months ago
Also, why the same argument over and over again about Domingo singing with Jenkins or any other pop singer? He is really an old man being polite with a pretty young woman which became popular and makes a lot of money! In any profession you have to be polite with your collegues especially with those whom bosses like and promote, otherwise nobody will deal with you anymore if you only tell the truth who is talented and who can just please those in power. First educate yourself on how many operas..
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce I agree. The only opera singer who has spoken out about how she doesn't like the popera singers is Kiri TeKanawa, and people pilloried her and ripped her to shreds over it. No wonder Domingo and others say "polite" things about popera performers.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 I agree with you too. 12harby just can't answer your questions. Your channel really shows that you know, understand and appreciate different genres. My channel perhaps doesn't look that way as on YT it's mainly dedicated to promote countertenor singing in the meaning of support but I listen to different genres too. I'm no snob either. Just true opera is different GENRE. It requires BIG, CLASSICALLY TRAINED voice with GOOD BREATH CONTROL and EXPRESSIVENESS. Pop singers don't need it
serenaluce 7 months ago
@serenaluce The popera fans just don't get the difference between popera and opera. They think opera fans are all snobs, and can't realize that we just prefer to hear opera sung by people who have the training and technique to sing roles in complete operas and sing without a mic. I asked harby to look at my channel to see all the different types of music that are there, but he refused to acknowledge it.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby When I was a little girl, my mother bought me a book entitled "100 most popular operas" - it contained synopsis from 100 operas, most of them popular. I thought back then it was everything, but then I found out that many popular operas aren't even in the book. Opera has 600 years of history, and multiple styles - baroque, Mozart, bel canto, Verdi, Wagner, verismo, grand opera, etc. Each of the styles and time period has quite a few popular opera, those less popular are great too.
jewelmarkess 7 months ago

You not only listen to just one genre, you only listen to one singer.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 Two comments ago 12harby says that he loves some opera cos he has cd's of opera aria's. In this comment you accuse 12harby of hating opera. Does your mind not register or absorb information??? Youre so busy saying what you want to say that you miss the chance to learn something.
VinnyLog 7 months ago
@VinnyLog NOBODY said that harby hates opera. That's all in your head. Having CDs of opera arias is not the same thing as having complete opera recordings and attending live operas.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby Popularity and financial success isn't the same as greatness. Mozart wasn't the most popular composer of his time, but we don't even know or care who the most popular composers were. Today, Britney Spears and Miley Sirus both fill concert halls and arenas, so did Madonna at one time - do you consider them great? Bizet's Carmen was booed at its premiere. Many a great composers died poor. Financial success may is meaningless in classical music.
jewelmarkess 7 months ago
@jewelmarkess Again, I agree completely with you. 12harby needs to learn the difference between popularity and greatness. The two are not synonymous. Good points too about Mozart and Carmen.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@jewelmarkess Kj has never ever said she is an opera singer I think you will find that it is mostly the media that call her that .She is in fact a classicaly trained singer (Royal Academy London) where she obtained A honours degree and a diploma in teaching ,she was a member of the Royal Society of Church music and cathedral singers for 6 years where she obtained its highest award the St Cecilia award.
I am aware of course that Britain never has had the wonderful culture of the us ,they try.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby Nobody is knocking British culture. We're just saying that one singer, KJ, isn't an opera singer. KJ doesn't correct people when they call her an opera singer. Also, isn't it strange that KJ wasn't graduated from the R.A. with a degree in opera performance? That's because they7 didn't deem her qualified to be an opera singer.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago

You simply won't hear what I'm saying and you twist my words around so that you can cast yourself in the role of KJ's saviour.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby You really have a bee in your bonnet about some US and British rivalry when that is not what the other posters are talking about at all! And for yor information, she has called herself an opera singer in the past on her website so get your facts straight. You also really need to listen to what others are saying because your responses make no sense.
clevercloggs77 7 months ago
@clevercloggs77 I don't think he's ever going to listen to us. He hears only what he wants to hear. He rails on about Americans, Russians, whatever when attacking nationalities does nothing to prove his point about KJ. He has no valid arguments to give. He adores KJ and can't stand to hear anyone say anything against her. She's a pop singer who sings opera arias and he can't accept that.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 I couldn't agree more with you here. If 12harby didn't talk so much about somewhat artificially madeup British-US rivalry I wouldn't even notice it:-).It's a musical video and we talk MUSIC and SINGERS here, compare different versions, talk about opera, true operatic style, who is a classically trained singer and who is a pop singer like Jenkins just performing isolated opera arias. These are just different genres. Rock ,heavy metal and pop stars make more money. Are they greater?
serenaluce 7 months ago
@12harby Opera doesn't get less popular ever year, in fact the Met sold more tickets last year than before, and the average age of the Met-goer is down. If you don't know opera and don't care about opera, why do you insist of calling Jenkins an "opera singer"? Why does she call herself "classical" singer (notice, she doesn't say "classical crossover") or claims that she might sing opera one day? Call her a classical crossover singer or popera singer, and most arguments would go away.
jewelmarkess 7 months ago
@jewelmarkess I agree completely. Also, KJ needs to stop saying that she needs to use a microphone because her voice hasn't matured enough to sing without one. If she would stop saying things like this and, as you say, call herself a classical crossover or popera singer, most of the aruguments would go away.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@jewelmarkess The metropolitan must be the world pinnicle of culture you Americans talk about it all the time ,of course nothing elsewhere can match it ,its American of course ,then theres the NY Phill. No one else can remotly come near ,London forget your BBC sym.Royal Phill, London Phill, New phill , St mart acad.Orc hand all the other world class orch you have ,how can you match the Met its brought up all the time by the americans.Oh I think you will just have to do your best Brits.
12harby 7 months ago
@12harby This is funny how I don't see anywhere in my comment anything about comparison of opera theaters or about the Met being the best. I happen to live near NYC, so I know a little about attendance at the Met. Given as I don't know anything about the attendance in the ROH, I can't comment on that. Also last time I checked the conversation was about opera. But if you really listen to all these great composers you mention, you'd know that greatness and popularity isn't the same.
jewelmarkess 7 months ago
@jewelmarkess He's not hearing what you're actually saying either.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@12harby How did this conversation degenreate into calling jewelmarkess and me some sort of "American supremacists"? We've said nothing to indicate that we think America and American music culture is superior to that of the U.K. You really aren't listening to what we've been saying.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 You did not deny that opera singers think they are the only ones allowed to sing an opera item ,you perhaps do not want to admit it .Yet in any other genre of music people from different musical backgrounds are allowed to crossover asit where ,except the opera crowd are you so precious that you do not allow anyone to sing your stuff.
No wonder you are regarded as the most snobby lot in music . I enjoy opera but not the people from it ,this is the 21st century ,join it.
12harby 7 months ago

12harby 7 months ago
@12harby I suspect Garrett was being diplomatic. If KJ gets people to want to explore the world of opera that's fine. How do you know KJ is a lovely person? Do you know her personally? I used to work for an actor. His fans loved him, thought he was a lovely person. He was actually a nasty, self-centered, abusive monster. I got tired of his abuse and pretending to his fans that he was a nice person, and quit working for him. You never know what a celebrity is like unless you know them personally.
arpeggio1358 7 months ago
@arpeggio1358 I said Lg is a nice person .I have just looked up Kj on twitter guess wqhat dhe calls herself -classical crossover singer. As for medicore is not mediocore the accepted norm for American stars .You have a woman called Ellen on tv withno talent at all gyrates and the Audience fawn over she says 2 words and they shake there hands fall on the floor and have Hysterics . Record promo David foster reckons Miss Jenkins is the no1 singing artist in the world, mind you he is Canadian.
