  • @eraoife i just came back from the castle last week..If there is only one thing to do left in your life ...you must visit it,but make sure you see it in daytime & at night..it;s stunning.

  • I visited Eilean Donan Castle back in 2006. It was simply breathtaking. Any time I see a photo of the castle, such a huge wave of nostalgia sweeps over me. My new husband is of Scottish ancestry. He has never been outside of Australia though. My aim is to get him over to Scotland. Does anybody know anything about the Clark Clan?

  • does anyone go in??

  • The most beautiful castle I've seen. Absolutly stunning. I'm going there one day.

    ...and will buy it :)

  • I am buying it.

  • Visited the Castle in October while staying at Plockton. Its an amazing feeling walking over that bridge to the Castle, and so well restored inside, made the hairs on my neck stand up - Great Atmosphere.

  • I stayed with my aunt's friend Char up on a farm in Plockton one or two years ago, and we drove past it, and it was absolutely amazing. Then I was told that when my dad was a boy, he and his friends would play down by the bridge, and that when I was five, he took me there! I was like :')

  • BlueMiscellany - Yes its pretty spectacular - stirs up something inside doesnt it?

  • I know, I wish I was up there now :\

  • It feels like Time has stood still and you can imagine what the lives of those people were like that lived in the Castle cant you?

  • the seat of my clan - the Wild McRae's!!!!

  • excellent video - very atmospheric

  • Drove past it about 6 weeks ago, then turned around and stopped to take a few pictures, its a wonderful spectacle.

  • Honestly, I think Scotland can pride on more exquisite castles. It is beyond argument that Eilean Donan has fascinating history, but I'm sure each castle does.

Still, the vid is great. The 1:02 shot is grand!

  • my favorite castle( theres a nice pub not too far away to lol)

  • awesome!! brought tears to my eyes!! I knew this place had a special meaning to me even before I married into the McCrae family :) now I have a tie to this wonderful place, albeit through marriage, but still, it's nice to know that I can proudly say that I am a McCrae :)

  • Great vid.

    A question.

I used to come across on the wee ferry from rothsay heading to dunoon.

go up the road a few mile then turn right across country, on that road there was a castle on a wee island, what is that called it was smashing, in fact if you get the chance go down that road the views are brill.

  • Quote:

"...In 1220 a strong castle was built here by King Alexander II to deter Viking Invasion..."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Viking Age ended in 1066 at the battle of Stamford Bridge. Purhaps Viking raids went on longer than that.

In any case, thanks for posting this great video!!

  • i really want to visit this castle.

  • very good, however, the castle is more beautiful in sunshine
