  • psshhh no one's getting through canada ;)

  • Norwegian Army where one of the first to utilize skies in warfare.

  • "revolutionized winter mountain warfare"? The Italians and French had mountain troops since the XIXth century (Alpini and Chasseurs Alpins). The Austrians, Germans, Romanians and Spanish founded theirs in the early XXth century (Landesschützen, Alpenkorps, Vânâtori de Munte and Cazadores de montaña).

The US army only found out what had been common sense for European armies for half a century before them.

  • We Norwegians are born with ski's on our feet :)

Nice to see that other countries can learn from us for the better good!

  • @MrKafenisanje I'm sorry but I barely understood what you just wrote.

  • Will you people stop arguing? This is an apolitical documentary.

  • Learn history! Austrians had mountain troops in the WW I

I am so tired of the american bullshit.

  • @bodhicougar Yes, but the Finnish soldiers stopped a Soviet invasion with their mountain soldiers, it was them that inspired US Army officers to create a Mountain warfare Division. Not Alpini or Landesschutzen troops.

I'm more tired of people like you trying to act as though you know more then the rest of us.

  • i like US global domination touring through the last centuries :D

    nice people there :D

    so cute

  • 99% of american war techniques copyied from the germans... and from the 99% they copy it to 50% fail

  • and the German army where the first who had stealth troopers

  • American army suck's -.-

  • @ThePerfectOwnage actually they have one of the best military in the world.. not the best.. just one of them..

  • @XxBeAsTsCoPeZxX yeah your right but American'a are trigger happy idiot's -.-

They shoot on everything that moves and have no idea where are they shooting at

  • @ThePerfectOwnage

That is a silly statement. For the most part the enemy isn't well defined and makes it a habit of sending out unarmed patrols.

  • @ThePerfectOwnage "idiot's" <-- This is what we call ironic. And that's just adding punctuation. I'd understand if English isn't your first language, but your username is in English... so I'm assuming it is. Also, your/you're. 'on' should be 'at', 'they' and 'are' should be switched.

  • @ThePerfectOwnage Oh really. And what country might you be from?---I can only imagine---

  • @paintballKid545 I'm From the Netherlands but my grandpa fought in the Waffen SS.

I know allmost everything about the Werhmacht

  • go norway!!

  • What a load of self congratulating nonsense.

  • Beterano ako diyan

  • GO... to hell (and get back in one piece)

  • Gebirgsjäger Horrido!

  • My grandpa is named eddie R. Jokela he was a commander in the 10th mountain divion ond recently passed away in 2010... please bow your head and pray for him... P.s. he was also finish.

  • the Finns are the most hardcore people during WW2

  • Its a shame during the Clinton yrs the division was kinda forgotten. High altitude combat training is the div. specialty. 2001 they were not ready for A-stan. They are now one of the most deployed regular Army units. They deserve alotta credit. Godspeed boys..

  • Go NORWEGIAN JUMPER QHO TOUGHT AMERICANS HOW TO SKI ^^

  • Goooo Norway NORSOF

  • Goooo Norway NORSOF

  • arthur Brevik staff sargent bronze star 87th mt company B one of the many norwegians of the 10th my Dad

  • It's my impression or it wasn't the 10th. Mountain who doesn't fought on gothic line? As far as i know it was the 5th., and the FEB (brazilian expeditionary force) who fought on it. Much of US troops and brazilian did expelled the germans from Italy. The brazilian troops were incorporated to the 5th. so that's why they went in so many important battles in Italy. The Italy wasn't defeated only by british and US; maybe only by brazilian and US troops. If you wanna know some info try - lapaazul.com

  • HOOAH my son is 10th Mountain bunch of great soldiers

  • Go ... back where you come from ... cuz war is bad!

  • I have heard that the Republic of Korea currently has the most respectable mountain warfare troops? Is this true?

  • @skimyy Nope. Its scandinavia with Norway and Finnland ase the "Aces". Soldiers from all over the world are coming to the school of winterwarfare in Rena - Norway. And as you can see, many of the soldiers in the 10th were from scandinavia. Winter is a part of the kulture and way of living here, so if anybody wanna talk winterwarfare, send them to scandinavia!

  • jeijj to finland!!!

  • we won this war. we save st.petersburg in ww2. border was too near to city and mannerhaim and his friend hitler can assault city and capture it

  • finland dint won they losed

    \america go to hell.

  • @outskool100 Not entirely true.

After Russia invaded Finland the rest of the world saw Russia as a big country virtually undefended and ripe for invasion with an army that could be easily defeated whereas the Finish army earned itself the respect of the world which lasts to this day.

    Sometimes winning isn't everything.

  • @jimmywrangles Errrm, noone gives a shit about Finland.

  • @outskool100

    LOL

  • @outskool100 No Finland won fool

  • @outskool100 Well... USSR try to occupied whole Finland and Finland just try to stay independent! Finland has: 337000 soldiers, only 32 crappy tanks and no enough shells or Anti-tank weapons(only Molotov cocktails). USSR has: over 998100 men, 6541 tanks, 3880 aircraft + endless amount of shells. Finland lost some land but USSR failed to occupied Finland. Finland lost 25904 dead, 43557 wounded but USSR 126875 dead, 188671 wounded, 5572 captured, 3,543 tanks, 515 aircraft... USSR won Winter war?

  • @Menties1 Yes they did. Suomi hävis, ihan vaan tiedoks.

  • @outskool100

    how did finland lose ?

  • @outskool100

i dont know if you noticed but the USSR army was most likely as large or larger than the entire finish population. And secondly they managed to hold off the russians who failed to conquer entire finland.. So really you could see it as a draw or even a defeat of the USSR army

  • Comment removed

  • @montrastic whether Finland has managed to resist and stop Russia today, for example, if Russia went into occupation of Finland?

  • This division has not been active for 6 decades though. It has gone through reassignments and deactivation and reactivation at some point

  • u know funny that the taliban specialise suicide atks and stuffs... why did they challenge a super country that can drop nukes on them... god end it already....some h bomb or A bomb can do the trick..... its a waste of US funds if this goes on..

  • @12ock If the u.s started dropping nukes on all their problems then other countries would see us a major threat and would probably ally together to stop us.

  • @12ock um, this isn't like a inter-country war. the taliban did not start this war either. if they nuked Afghanistan then hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and women and children who have nothing to do with, do not sympathise with and are not in league with the Taliban... so, because a country has a radicalist group of militants, you would kill everyone in the country?

you sir, are an idiot, and deserve to be in prison.

  • @MiketheMadness couldn't have said it better myself.

  • marines dont wear desert camo ,they use marpat desert.

  • Those are US Marines at 0:10...

  • lol, noticed that as well.

    Great documentary by the way.

  • Go England EU and USA go 10 Mountain!

  • Gooo finland;D

  • @kalelo91 Don't forget to say "Go Sweden" as well. After all you wouldn't last near as long if you didn't have our volunteers and our guns & ammunition... :)

  • 4 Alpini Regiment "Monte Cervino" of the Italian Army montana best division in the world, British, Germans, Americans arrived after

  • Mountain Cav baby!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and the m4 is the shit as long as you maintain it. We were making shots out to 550-600m with ACOGs. SINGLE shots at that range. "you only need one round if you don't miss." and we RARELY miss. yeah 5.56 is a small calliber but we made it work when we had to.

  • acutily the idea of mountain troops is austrian/german

  • Yep. During the First World war and with the Italians Joining the Entente the Austrians needed an effective fighting force to hold the Italians at bay in the Alps.

  • 10th Mountain made my husband the best possible soldier he could be... He was there for OEF VII and is back there now....

    Climb to Glory!

  • Thank you for this education video. I love to camp at Camp Hale and am eager to view history of the camp and the courageous men that served in the 10th Mountain Division. Thank you again!

  • BLEW I meant. Not so easy to keep three foreign languages under control.

  • M4 carbine is a total failure in afhanstan.

  • watch out guys, genuine badass soldier here.

  • so, u like M4 ?

good for shooting range target practicing, but not for rough handling in real combat situations.

  • a good carpenter never blames poor craftmanship on his tools, nor does the sculpter blame his chisels, nor will a compitent soldier blame his rifle. if your M4 is a failure in afghanistan then you need to maintain you kit.

  • that is true, BUT, we should give our soliders the best possible.

M4 is not remotely resemble anything that even will be able to pass the adoption test in russia and china.

  • you have no idea what your talking about, yes the ak-47 is much more durable but the m4 is just as reliable as most other rifles only far more accurate

  • There's better rifles out there, but the M4 really isn't THAT bad, killer. Are you with MI? Just asking, 'cause it's spelled "Afghanistan." Capitol A, with a "g" and an "i", in that order. 1st Army, Hooah!!!! GETSOME!!!!!!!!!! Just trying to square you away, PFC Killroy. Only a true friend would be so truely honest.

  • Train in the snow, get deployed to deserts. Go figure.

  • >>>"The 10th turned the tide for the Allies in Italy, revolutionized winter mountain warfare, transformed winter sports and inspired a new generation of soldiers."

You should not stop exaggerating in this most ridiculous way. Go on like that: The 10th invented icecream and Winter Olympics too and taught the Krauts shooting, skiing, sliding and skating so that since then Germany is on top of the medal ranking every time.

  • Well, back in the day, the Army recruited really good skiers for the unit and it was a true mountain unit.

Today, the 10th Mountain is light infantry and the mountain tab is for tradition. The Vermont National Guard has actual mountain infantry though.

  • No problem with that, these are facts, but what I quoted from the vid information sounds like some rather narrow-minded "how we conquered the world" propaganda.

  • hey guy, where are you drawing your expertise from? I served in the 10th for 3.5 years in 2nd Brigade, it's an incredible fighting unit and second only to a brigade from the 101st for most months deployed in combat.

And will you tell me where the "exaggerating" is? Without the 10th Mountain Div it would have been extremely difficult to liberate Italy, they had very specific training in dealing with that climate (and still do, CONUS cold weather training is conducted at Fort Drum, NY)

  • Furthermore, the mountain and ski training implemented during WWII spiked an interest in those sports. Returning war veterans founded many of the ski resorts in Aspen and other communities throughout the mountains of the United States. Sounds to me like you have a grudge against either the 10th MTN DIV or the US Army in general, how about you pay the men and women who have fought for this country a little damn respect

  • And if you dont respect them, this is a FREE COUNTRY....SO GO AHEAD AND WALK YOUR FREE ASS TO CANADA! ps- You can thank the soldiers of the 10th MTN DIV and the rest of the US armed forces for that very freedom. RECON!

  • @BoonesFarm50

Shush! Maybe he is just NOT an American? :-) Maybe he is not even living there? :-)) Such things happen to happen, especially on the internet...

  • The last 3 comments are in response to SMALBOP's dumb ass

    LEAD WITH COURAGE

    SPC MACOMBER A CO. 2/22

9/11 has put you in harms way. I wish I were there again, with you.

  • haha, retard. thats retarded. the russians fought the russian front, and were SUPPLIED by the British and the US. the allies LET the russians into berlin first, just like we let the French into Paris first. go read a history book stupid. when Ireland actually FIGHTS in a war then you can talk. besides, europe was a team effort, but the US won the pacific.

  • So, where were the fabulous Irish troops on D-Day, huh? Yeah, Europe...the civilized and sophisticated experts how to get along with one another without being aggressive and warlike. So, how did that work out for you guys the last 100 years? Maybe you can give us some lessons?

  • the russians would've never made it to berlin by themselves. and we let them get to berlin first anyways...

  • Asshole...If it wasn't for the US, you would be speaking German right now under a Nazi flag. and you thought England was bad? You're a moron.

  • Go Norway, this is what we are also very good at!

  • go 10th mtn i was at drum for 4 years and served in somalia the soldiers of the 10th are the toughest sob's alive TO THE TOP

  • awsome, you were in somalia? respect! I was wondering, is the 10th mountain still specialized in Mtn warfare? or has it changed like the 101st?

  • The mountain is in name only today.

  • i take it your not from 1-89. lemme tell ya there are still mountain soldiers in the tenth. just cause the infantry don't train (on anything from the look of it) don't mean the cav rests on our laurels.

  • now adays there are only mexicans. its a darn joke.

  • what u trying to say.....

  • Climb to Glory!

  • "Revolutionising mountain warefare abroad" ???? Who? Most of the rest of the world has been doing this for hundreds of years.

  • no way man
