  • Message sent: 2-1-2055 Message received: 2-1-2012 If this message makes it back to the correct year. Stop Jaimie Mentzel! His Mechanoids have almost wiped out the human race. The father of the apocalypse must be stopped. End message.

  • By the way, what you say about judging one's own ability is so true. I'm a high school student and I'm competing in a competition called mech warfare in which I essentially build one of what you built but smaller. Everyone else in the competition is significantly older and more experienced than me. When I started, no one expected it to work, but currently I have a functioning bot ready for the next competition I can make it to. Actually, I was sent here by the main forum for the competition.

  • @63NY1 Yes! That's great! Its really cool that you went for it despite people's doubts. Its a good lesson to learn. ...other peoples doubts about you mean nothing. :-)

Good luck in the competition. :-)

  • i pretty much did the exact same thing when my robot walked... of course mine is about the size of a toaster.

  • "It actually worked! I mean, I knew that was going to work."

  • Team K.I.S.S and (Ethel the robot) applaudes your efforts. We too understand the struggle that creativity requires. Steven Kirk Nelson, teamkiss dot com.

  • You're my new superhero idol JMEMantzel! When I un-grow up I want to be just like you.

  • Remember Kids:

    Brown Wire = Live,

    Blue Wire = Neutral

    and

    Green\Yellow Cable = Earth....

  • Wow.

  • That was really cool.

  • ABRURURU-BRAH!!!-

  • entp

  • This reminds me of Theo Jansen's Strandbeests. But Mantzel seems like more of an awesome mad scientist while Jansen seems to be more of an artist. Although there are aspects of each other in their work and efforts. Great stuff.

  • Also, adopt me please. Just make a cult or a secret society or a far off island nation where we can be your devoted underlings/minions.

  • @myroutine boooo you'll live in the woods and screw nuts and bolts

  • That's not chainmail, that's just chains!

  • @Valkyriefury Exactly, chainmail is like "If you don't send this chain to 10 other people, you will rust"

  • Scyloxe

  • Wow... Wow, wow wow wow

  • im 17 and i love science. When i growup i wanna be just like you!

  • You are a true inspiration

  • adopt me pls

  • I only wish i found something to do that would be as interesting to me as this is to you.

  • And this is how mad scientists are born!

  • Dont put any weapon systems on this thing unless you want to the terminator movie to come true

  • Some day this guys spider army will crush the earths defences and we shall call him master.

  • Someone get this guy a tv show and an oscar for most inventive person.

  • I stood up and cheered and when it took that first step. It is like a dream come to life.

  • This guy deserves an award. So much passion.

  • When the world goes to shit I want this guy around

  • Discovery channel...you need to get this guy his own show right now

  • @cfellaris That's so true! Jaimie would be so amazing, inspiring and motivating to watch on a regular basis!!

  • ok, your very cool!

  • make a TV show out of this guy

  • IT'S ALIVE!

  • Please dont give these things an AI i dont want terminators running around

  • @Badbrainz123 I was thinking, you should totally give them an AI, I want Tachikomas running around.

  • Great Scott!

  • Great, now I'm gonna have nightmares about giant spider-mechs sent back from the future to destroy mankind.

  • The reason the active and neutral aren't coloured red and black is so that people don't assume that they're positive and negative DC. Brown is active (line) and blue is neutral.

  • I'm happy for you too. Sincerely ...:-)

  • I've been wasting my life.

  • Oh god i can't wait till you add laser turrets to it.

  • OMG you're like on natural crack all the time!! Like a 6 yr old in a 34 yr old body!! You're gonna be an awesome dad!! I wanna have your babies!!

  • Didn't I see this thing in Attack of the Clones?

  • After 64 videos, I must comment. You are amazing, brilliant, crafty and funny. A rare breed that this world needs more of. Like you, I love the challenge of making something myself just because I can but I'm not as talented nor have the experience and tools you do. But, I do know the exact feeling at 07:38 - There's nothing better.

Keep it up, I look forward to the other 270ish videos you have :)

  • any apocalypse, this guy survives!

  • AWESOME!

  • I think I love you.

  • THATSS SOO COOL!!!!! I'm too lazy to look at recent videos to find out, but what kind of motors did you use for this thing??

  • You are crazy and I envy you so, SO MUCH.

  • I want to be your friend crazy man :3

  • You are bizarre. Keep building your crazy robot of doom.

  • YOU'RE MY HERO. THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR WORLD.

  • fuzzily walking!

  • You may be a mentalist but you're the happiest mentalist in the world.

  • it's important to mount that rectifier to a flat surface (preferably with some conductive goop) It's necessary for cooling

  • Never change dude. Awesome.

  • when you said it was going backwards and you had to reverse the polarity.... I got a boner, techno babble hasnt turned me on so har dbefore

  • You give mad scientists a good name!

  • This guy reminds me of the scientist guy from back from the future

  • @flyingeagle6 Dr. Emmet Brown AKA Doc.

  • why whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy you don't run naked in the forest screaming like a mad man?!?! If you gonna be a mad scientist then go all out man... :D

  • who is this guy?

  • You should enter it into robot wars

  • u r asum

  • Can you make one Bigger? -That was pretty awesome dude!

  • HOLY SHIT IT MOVED

  • you are a real life tony stark

  • @TheRunningPuzzle thats exactly what i thought, but in robots, i call my self the real life tony start cuz once you see my iron man arm video on my channel ull be convinced i am.

  • Real Life Doc Brown

  • 7:37 LOLZ

  • I don't know where this guy lives, I just know it's not far enough away for me to feel safe.

  • I for one welcome our new lord and master when he inevitably takes over the world with he's legion of spider drones.

  • I would like to sign up for your Legion of Doom. I'm not a very good shot, I was hoping for maybe an accountant's position, or a janitor or something. I'm not in it for the glory, I just hope there are benefits.

  • lol he's like the steriotypical mad scientist from every 80's-90's kids cartoon. he makes these videos so much more watchable, as if watching a 12 foot robot spider wasnt watchable enough...

  • I like his mad laughter :D

  • You sir, are AWESOME! I just kept on waiting for a massive screaming fit, and or mad scientist laugh. You most certainly delivered in that department :D Thanks for the T- Shirt too :D

  • 6:08 haha

  • Hahaha so cool man.

  • I see a bright future for you

  • awesome. very cool to see it walking.

  • Anyway, this is great. I'm going to go start building things now.

  • Jamie you don't know how to wire a plug? 0_O

  • This is amazing...

    you are my hero.

  • This guy is amazing.

  • You are an inspiration

You make me feel like I can do anything

  • You are the MOST AWESOME PERSON EVER

  • this guys awesome

  • "Odd's are, something's gonna break. And... That's okay." *Loud clang* "..Oops..."

  • You are the coolest guy I have ever seen and I wish you were my dad.

  • @imasillypiggy Its sort of funny, but..... one of my big motivations in life is to hear my own kids say that to me one day. :-)

  • @JMEMantzel

i wish you were my dad?

  • @JMEMantzel You want your own kids to say "I wish you were my dad"? O.o

  • @JMEMantzel Daddy

  • @JMEMantzel You want your own kids to say "I wish you were my dad" ? Isn't that a negative thing to say to your dad o.o?

  • @JMEMantzel BE MY DAD :(((

  • i must admit i always knew it would work, your primary ideal was valid and logical, to take a small version and replicate it in greater size. i mean after the 36th video i was sure you would complete it, alot of detication, and it paid off, good job jamie. now it's time to make that invincible exoskeleton.... i am actually just ranting in excitement , congradulations man.

  • @madoubled a funny moment for all of us who have followed this for some years ;)

  • lol its alive! awsome ! where you at in vermont cause I commin to live next to you!

    Brad

  • It's ALIVE!!!!!!! GRACIAS POR TU INSPIRACION!!!! (thanks for your inspiration!!!)

I send to you my best wishes from Argentina and continiue working like this!!!

  • Excuse me sir but...

do you know what aids is?

  • So when you hit that piece of polycarbonate with the hammer and there was a wet spot on the stone below... that came from the plastic... right? Weird.

But Awesome double thumbs up for the Hexapedal Robopod to take its first steps! it is truely AWESOME!

  • Yea Jamie!!! Your my hero!!!!!!

This reminds my of Dr Horrible.

Your amazing! If I ever have any robot trouble I'll deffinetly get ahold of you and if there's anything you need for it get ahold of me through the messaging system!

    Good job and Good luck!!!!!!

  • HELL YEAH! +3000000pts on awesomeness scale! Well done Jaimie!

  • WE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN YOU JAIMIE!! I can't wait to see it all repaired and radiocontrolled in the streets wreaking havoc and terror in the puny mortals that wanders them!! :D

  • Good job Jamie, 32k views...big time coming ;)

  • After the last 2 and a half years, you've been making that thing, and now, it works! Congratulations on all the hard work amounting to this really cool robot. All you need now is proton lasers and armor and you'll have a Star Wars Spider Walker! DESTROY THOSE REBELS!! PEW PEW!! When your toy robot-spider-walker comes to market, I'll buy three! What to do next...?

  • Way to go Jamie!!!! You take your place in history right alongside Dr Frankenstein!!! He worked way out in the woods too didn't he? By the way, where is the closest village? Congratulations Dude!!! Two kids in one year...you are on a roll!!!!

  • you are truly an inspiration to me man. i seriously can't even fathom what that must feel like to have finished after 3 years.

can't wait to see what you do with it in the new year.

    peace!

  • First steps!?! Congrats dude! I know you put a lot into it!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • May I offer my formal congratulations! Let it go forth and terrify the countryside! Does this mean I won't have to sleep with it in the banana building any more? :P

  • I haven't seen anything in the other comments here, but I'd be careful of using only a rectifier to power your DC motor. 120V RMS AC is equal to 170V DC (120 * sqrt(2) ). Also, you'll probably want some sort of power conditioning (capacitors to prevent excessive DC ripple) and probably a second rectifier for a full-wave rectifier circuit (for cleaner power yet). However, you still need to drop the voltage by 40 VDC.

  • I screamed when it moved!

    Grats Jaimie!

  • Man, my heart started racing when it barely twitched. I think I yelped for joy when it took its first steps, those weeks of watching all your videos culminated to this very moment and boy was it worth it. You are THE man Jaimie, can't wait to see you on the cover of Time magazine.

  • that was awsome well done dude keep up the good work wooooooop its alive i tell u

  • dude! historic moment! congrats on a succesfull test jaime!

  • I knew it would work! Kick ass!

  • The color code on the power cable is euro standard. green/yellow is ground, blue is netural, and brown is hot.

I always remember it because brown is the color of a load, poop joke that actually helpful!

  • You did it ! Great ! Happy New Year ! !

  • IT'S ALIIIIIVE

  • Once the Jamius is Mass Produced....

  • Ogods, when it replays at the end, you can hear its polycarbonate ligaments snapping.

  • Awesome. We've all waited a long time for this, Jaimie. You have set the bar very high for us DIY'ers. Great job!!! Looking forward for more tests after you work all the bugs out.

  • Vote up for showing how to use crimp connectors and multi-meter.

  • Cool spider bro.

  • Im sure this wont be JME's style but...

This is a giant (censored) you to the trolls who said that:

    1) This idea was crap

    2) He could not do it.

    3) People shouldn't believe in themselves.

  • @pommyrooter nice job feeding the trolls dumbass that is what they want

  • Thanks for sharing this video. Now we know how to take them down when they try to enslave humanity.

  • the scale up of a toy, the scale up of an ambition, the scale up of a man to an even greater. I love how an invention coming from the heart gives more to his builder than he gives to it, congratulations and may many people follow you Jamie!

  • Way to go!
