Well, what a happenin' site. At least the opposing sides are talking, sort of. The students did not take the police hostage, obviously. Nor did they present a real threat, but apparently, their protest was perceived to be threatening. The question is--- threatening to whom? The answer is--- invested interest. Most universities have been co-opted by the D.O.D., for weapons research. War is the only thing that we manufacture, anymore. If you protest aggression, you are trying to cost us jobs..
They don't have to move, they are sitting peacefully on campus grounds (which they pay for) protesting the very abuse displayed in the video. Fuck hippies? Fuck power hungry cops with no restraint and a chip on their shoulder. And fuck you for supporting them.
@lamarsyntax You are an idiot. " ...they are sitting peacefully on campus grounds ..."
This video opens with the crowd chanting "Fuck the police." They also have encircled the police and threaten to not let them leave until they release the arrested students... They in essence just took police hostage with terms... of course they are gonna be pepper sprayed, are you a moron?
@Comws Do you think armed riot police were simply marching around campus, making their rounds and were suddenly surrounded by a mob of students? They were sent to disperse the clearly peaceful protestors. Even before the spraying the cops easily make a buffer zone without removing the seated students, so they weren't trapped by any means. blatant abuse of power, absolutely unnecessary. And when do the students make any demands for the release of arrested individuals?
@lamarsyntax Having militarized police on hand has become a status symbol for the elite. What is the point of having a grand power tool, if you don't get to use it. Those officers were waiting and hoping for the day. Any excuse becomes the reason to display. Due to their brutality, now we shall have many more excuses to show off. That idiot chancellor lit a fuse. How may we extinguish it, without resorting to excuses?
im not sure if its a good idea to take the offense and keep police there (idk if thats exactly peaceful), but i dont really think "they had it coming", despite the numerous warnings. theyre protesters. police cant be like "hey move." students: "... ok", cause they'll be shoved to some corner where no one will listen or care. also, occupy gets a lot of hate for being lazy and not getting a job. i think theyre trying to move up the lower class as a whole, not just complaining about their debts
@TITANSMRS How is it abuse of their power, if they asked them to move. Five times. And every time they mocked the police? Every attempt to do it peacefully the idiots pretty much spat at the cops face. I'm glad they used the pepper spray.
yup they must be Humanaties students... looks like hippies and does nothing but sitting on their ass and whine. Atleast the police did their jobb... the ones sitting on their asses here should get back to class and try to make something productive.
Sounds like a lot of pain! No I guess I haven't felt the grave pain of pepper-spray. I have however had a 2 inch bolt go through my hand. I have had my forehead cracked open by falling on a sharp object, my chin cracked open from falling down a ladder. I have had an abscess the size of a lemon on my arm and had it cut open and stuffed. But these pains are nothing I am sure, compared to being pepper-sprayed as you describe it. Police officers enforce the laws OF THE court..........
Cool lets yell "fuck the police" because they are asking us to move off some private property. Do you hear officers telling them to shut the fuck up? To stop protesting? Do you hear officers taking away their "right to free speech?" No, they are asking them to move. It must be in the constitution to be able to stand wherever the fuck you want right? No. So shut the fuck up. Everyone who was sprayed deserved it on this day. And for the person who "hacked" the information and posted it:
@vincevindicta Yes! the right to protest is protected and police don't enforce the rules of protesting, courts do. If someone is breaking the law, it doesn't constitute chemical abuse or any abuse on people. Sorry about the inconvenience.
@vincevindicta no but the protester have the right to protest that officer had no right to assault them with pepper spray. and obviously you havnt felt it, its torture imagine somebody ripping off the skin on your face and pouring pure alchohol and lemon juice on the wound
these students here are complete morons, they were blocking in the police with civil disobedience even after they were told to peacefully move, a bunch of idiots (the cops did their job)
There used to be a time when students actually went to school with the number one priority of learning something. It doesn't seem like the UC or CSU system is worth the trouble, money or time any more. The students, teachers, cops and the tax payers don't have any respect for these institutions. They are no longer relivent in this post-collapse economy and political system.
This is what effective civil disobedience looks like; in the last half of the video the brave students of UC Davis take their quad & their university from these Milgram experiment flunkies; the same way we should take back Zucotti & other parks & public places & institutions.
@somelittlefatgirlino - They were blocking a pathway on PRIVATE campus property. Elli Pearson, one of the protestors who was peppersprayed just admitted on national TV that they provoked the police officers which resulted in them getting peppersprayed. So before you open your mouth, you should probably check out all the facts because 99.9% of the time, these things are provoked.
@PaulPradaShow you think sitting on a sidewalk is so provoking, that lt. pike couldn´t help him self but had to use a weapon (that is banned even for use in war by the chemical weapons convention)? even after this act of violence the students didn´t do anything, that could justify an attack.
did you notice, that this case is officially under investigation? do some research on the complience with the law.
It showed an incredible lack of judgement to pepper spray peaceful demonstrators... All were sitting quietly causing no damages, etc. Yes, I do understand that they were told to move and chose not ...maybe they didn't comply because they were holding a peaceful protest ! The only thing that was accomplished by this overly aggressive cop was to agitate and anger the crowd of students. Because of this man's arrogant and short-sighted actions the response was the cops having to yield, idioctic.
@mefford67 - Wow, where do you get your facts? Mother Jones? The students were pepper sprayed because they refused to leave PRIVATE campus property. One of the protestors who was sprayed, Elli Pearson, just admitted on national TV that they agitated and provoked the police officers first. Next time do some research or continue to look like a fool.
They brought in on themselves. They don't own that property. They were told several times to move. This is what happens when you have issues listening to authority.
They were told to move and they didn't. Kind of against the law. Not his fault at all, if anything they deserved it. Shame on the people sitting on the ground.
@scrlv fuck you asshole, they were in an act of civil disobedience, sitting and surrounding law enforcement even after the cops told them to move, (The cops did their job) just a bunch of idiot college students that don't know shit, one person makes a chant and then everybody joins in because they thinks they should be involved...and again this is about a protest of students that wouldn't move, not about a fukking Nazi (even if he is a Nazi, they're only sayin that to back the protestors

A very exciting tv-weekend is guaranteed :-(((
Such policemen were needed in Germany clearing roads and railtracks for the currently transported CASTORs. :-)
Could someone tell me what type of rifle some police officers are carrying - they look like instruments for paint ball?

@konstante74 a bit close, i'm pretty sure those launched rubber bullets since those are the more common riot control equipment.
