  • In this universe matter can pass through itself so those sharp corners could not pop the ball, so there's basically no laws of physics in this universe and that means this whole thing has absolutely no point at all because you can just push it though like the guy does at the beginning

  • mind of a topologist.....

  • We just went from Spheres to monorails to adding and subtracting frowns...fuck geometry I'm just gonna sell crack for a living.

  • What did I just watch?...

  • fuck this shit IM OUT!

  • pause at 10:25 .......

    geometry penis :)

  • fuck this, im going to bed...

  • @thezoffmann thats what im saying

  • when you turn it inside out its still a ball

  • Watch out, that was a sharp bend. STFU. What a killjoy.

  • i am on that nerdy side of youtube again......

  • I really regret making that comment...so many notifications lol.

  • @CawlinConveys LOL HERE'S ANOTHER ONE. No seriously, though I feel your pain :D

  • @CawlinConveys but at least you got the topvoted comment, right? =P

  • If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

  • @DrCube yes!

  • 8:08

    Pringles!

  • whare can you get that material or is it just computer grafics

  • How can you rip it....ITS A CIRCLE!

  • Glados's sister !

  • Why she mspeaks with us like with idiots?

  • 8:17 those would be called "pringles"

  • 1:39 can't make a crease eh? WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU CALL THOSE FOLDS?

  • complexxxx :S

  • I can do it with a basketball :)

  • retarded.. it can pass through itself = lame.

  • What was that? I was too busy dividing by zero!

  • I hate when I pinch spheres of unthinkable elasticity infinitely tight...

  • I can feel the power of intelligence.

  • excuse me while I pick up my brain fragments off of the ground

  • So is this one god talking to another god?

  • get to the point!

  • pevaaaa

  • I think I just found the end of the Internet. Time to turn around

  • sooo. what does this accomplish?

  • boom that was my brain exploding

  • After like 6:39 I got lost o_o

  • school should be total freedom of all total full knowledge, for as many years you want to learn, forever free, totally to expand everyones minds. but sadly we have a ruler of the air world by the god satan with demons controlling and using people to make satan 'king' but the end outcome is the millenial kingdom and the eterenal end of evil and satan and an new heaven, foreveeeeeeeer!!! *GAASSP* you get what im sayin? dagdoodly im high.

  • how the hell did i get to this video

  • krylon that shit

  • For everyone complaining about the rules, I'm sure it has something to do with discontinuity, as in calculus when you have a hole (puncture) or a corner (sharp fold). So bending and oscillating are ok. Then again, I might just be really high.

  • so the turning point represents happiness!

    Smart ass co-commentator ftw

  • you just got brain fucked

  • oh no! i'm at the weird part of youtube again

  • So...you can't poke a hole through it but creating a universe where matter can pass through itself is okay?

  • @CawlinConveys the rules sound really arbitrary but it's describing a surface with a defined limit, it's a pretty basic rule for calculus stuff. (somebody correct me if i'm wrong on that)

  • @finbar163 exactly what i was about to type before i say this.

  • @CawlinConveys Shut up. Our rules are good.

  • @CawlinConveys Who said anything about matter? The sphere isn't made of anything.

  • @PhantomHoover

Yeah, as stated in the video, it's made of a rubbery material that can pass through itself but will get destroyed when creased.

  • @mcluigi117 No, you can *imagine* it's made out of a rubbery material that can pass through itself. The sphere isn't made of anything any more than 4 or yellow are made out of anything.

  • @CawlinConveys

Matter CAN pass threw its self look up Quantum Tunneling. Also no sharp points is important so the three dimensional equation is differentiable.

  • @CawlinConveys poking a hole destroys the ball.

  • @CawlinConveys Ummm it's just a fucking thought experiment.. and it's cool.

  • @CawlinConveys poking a hole is not continuous, pulling a loop tight is not smooth, but there is nothing wrong with matter passing through itself

  • @CawlinConveys

Antimatter can pass through itself, and matter without any interactions.

  • Thank you, reddit?

  • You're all stupid commenters; this is fascinating, and I came here cos' I like mathematics.

  • Is anyone else really starting to hate this bitch?

  • ok.

  • OMG you have to crease it when it folds in half!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WHY THE FUCK AM I WATCHING THIS?! HOW DID I GET HERE?! AHHHHHHH

  • ha ha she said the game...FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • 10:25 penis :D

  • really?

  • @teamtunfiske u r sick minded

  • World's most geeky video, and I'm enjoying it...

  • very cool

  • whats the point if no material can pass through itself...

  • @jmjf7 liquid can pass through itself... can it?

  • I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON

  • 10:24 please explain.

  • Am i in hell?

  • Microsoft Sam used to narrate educational videos?:O

  • i just did this with my ball sack

  • Agoldsoilder

No it isn't I'm 13 and completely understand this

  • is it weird i find this interesting even though i'm 12?

  • If mitchell posted this on his tumblr I HAVE TO WATCH IT!

  • what was confusing?

  • Mitchel sent me here :P

  • uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....*drool drips from mouth* where am i? thanks for that one mr daviss. lol

  • This is so much greater than college applications.

  • Ok....wtf just happened

  • MM brought me here :)

  • MMELT YOUR BRAINN (;

  • and what practical purpose does this serve?

  • @magicdweedoo you wouldn't ask Picasso what practical purpose his paintings had, would you? Math is beautiful, and an art form in its own right, worth doing for its own sake. That said, topology and graph theory are utilized in the design of search algorithms in computer science, and space optimization on printed circuit boards in electrical and computer engineering, making it way better than any painting any artist ever did anyway.

  • @Russianprime you cannot physically achieve this.

  • @magicdweedoo the principals of topology and graph theory are used every day, regardless of whether or not every idea explored within the field can be physically achieved.

  • @Russianprime maybe I wasn't clear. I

  • Anyone else notice that there is people talking in the background?

  • this makes me want a beer

  • what subject and study is this?

  • @gsizzle154 Differential topology.

  • @Manuel71 thanks

  • Why is this making me feel sick?

  • 7:45 Pokemon Hand

  • Did anybody else lose the game?

  • my brain just died =D

  • This is like the Rubix Cube for geniuses.

  • RAGEQUIT

  • Can somebody please explain ring theory using this approach?

  • Is that GLaDOS??!

  • @Logician0 Wtf? Why?

  • @VannahWilson Her voice is similar, if you take away all the effects that is.

  • @Logician0 You mean Ellen McLain, then? Even then it doesn't really sound like her at all… I guess the way she enunciates is similar, but her voice really isn't.

  • even if you can make a material like that and make it a sphere..its not possible to make it inside out using your hands or any machines!

  • @JunLee000 You could if you were wearing the material as gloves. :)

  • Why are you guys watching this if you don't see the point in this video? This video relates directly to differential topology, a form of mathematics. Sorry if it seems useless, but mathematicians study these kinds of things for a living, and I don't think there should be an authority to decide what is and isn't useful to study.

  • why does pushing the sphere at 1:10 make it sound like the TARDIS?

  • Going through itself is technically ripping or tearing it, because it has to go through itself. This doesn't make sense. And I don't understand how the 4th dimention makes this happen.

  • @FataleChryses There is no 4th dimension involved.

  • @FataleChryses It's not an actual material.

  • I cant take lessons on complex geometry from a woman talking about smiles and frowns. Now go make me a sandwich, btich.

  • Her voice is so unbelievably grating, I don't even

    Patronising bitch.

  • Yeah...I'm supposed to be studying.

  • why is the guy always wrong

  • D: wha? there is no such material that can pass through it self.....is there?!

  • @ExquisiteCombos Not in reality. It's purely theoretical. Look up the Klein Bottle.

  • @jollyroger1210 oh i see

  • is this what they watch in college? i think i'll stick with Bill Nye and Schoolhouse Rock

  • Why mustn't you crease it if it magically passes through itself? In my universe, creasing is just fine, because it magically irons itself out. Bottom line is that you make the rules in the world of make-believe. Just think about all the cool creases you could make.

  • I WAS FROZEN TODAY!

  • what kind of game is this?

  • Yugi: The rules are simple! Turn your sphere inside out.

    (bad guy): I creased mine.

    Yugi: PENALTY GAME!!

  • understand the rules of the game...... I LOST THE GAME!!!!

  • This only applies to solids. So if you could somehow transform it from a solid to a liquid or gas back to solid. It sure make it easier.

  • sorry i meant 10:20 lol

  • hahaha penis at 10:25, but seriously this is a complicated but interesting video

  • I lost 00:30

  • The voice acting is cringe worthy

  • 240 p we meet again....

  • @Chrillejess Guy who meets 240p we meet again...

  • i lost the game...again...

  • dont watch high

  • i dont see the point in this video!

  • mind = blown

  • THE 1 GUY WAS LIKE "I FIND THIS IMPOSSIBLE TO MASTURBATE TO"...HAHA....THATS FUNNY...

  • I Like trains!

  • @bruzewski haha

  • yay for fluttershy monorails.

  • Guys the practical application is not the point of this video.

Newton didn't mess around developing calculus because it was practical , he did it because he found it interesting. Yet things like computers wouldn't exist without his theories, but he still mind fucked people anyway.

The point is, theories create their own practicalities, not the other way around. Just like with modern computers, who's to say that a substance like this won't be discovered/invented someday?

  • 外內对调?? 现在还不可能……

  • I am in 7th grade and I understand this.

  • heh.

  • @Northgtabeast el oh fucking el

  • Just as quick recap: Person A: Hey did you know a Sphere can be turned inside out? Person B: Well no of course it can't be A: Sure normally it can't but if you use this super material that can do anything it can be! B: OK...but then it is easy A: Right but then we put in a few ambiguous rules to make it harder B: ...

  • head= explosion

  • So you're telling me this sphere can go through itself? What material is this? I gotta have it!

  • FAST dislike! the red side of the lightsaber is infinitly tight!!! Dislike or it will be destroyed! Do u know what happens when a lightsaber is destroyed???????? u dont want to!

  • OH. MY. GOD. Can you imagine the powers of visualization you would need to proove this.

  • The girl sounds like a speech synthesizer!

  • Guy: "Is this it? Is this a sphere turning inside out?"

Girl: "No, this is your mind being blown. Was it good for you?"

  • anyone recognize the similarity between this sphere deforming and how blood cells move? if you look at gravity the sphere turning itself inside out is very similar as well. the method used to do this why do they tend to follow geometric patterns? just look at cymatics. with this animation people can create many sphere from a single sphere that is all made up from a single object. if we think of waves as deformation in a medium neither the waves nor the particles exist

  • 'From here it looks like a smile' cute and very unexpected.

  • The girl explaining this?

    She's a WITCH!

    BURN THE BITCH!

  • @Northgtabeast i HAVE no Clue :D

  • 10:25 hello penis

  • Jog on.

  • 240p we meet again...

  • my face are exploded.

  • Girl: You're pinching it infinitley tight.

Guy: Damnit woman! I'll do whatever I want!

  • Where does this apply in reality? I think people were drunk one day and said LETS SEE HOW WE TURN A SPHERE INSIDE OUT! we cant do that. Well lets imagine a super material that can pass through itself, but cant be creased sharply. WHY? Becasue if it bends sharply it disentegrates. So why would we need to turn it inside-out? Theres a peanut inside. But then wouldent it disentegrating get me the peanut? Forget you imma make a youtube video about monorails.

  • @DualcastBahamut

When they bend sharply, they don't disintegrate, that is a symbol for the fact that you flipped/rip the material.

which is the primary objective of the study.

it can pass through itself because that doesn't void the rule.

The material can't be ripped, if you pull the opposite sides towards each other, and keep going, they will reach lim∞, vice versa, the space between the crossing reaches lim1/∞

it's theories, the foundations of our society. and they do apply in high science.

  • @DualcastBahamut Does it matter? the beauty of mathematics is that stretches the limits of imagination without being constrain by practical uses. In time applications for even the most far fetches ideas are found but that is not what fuels the mathematician. Do you think that playing with immensely large numbers and how they split on prime numbers did have a purpose many years ago? well now your credit card transaction wouldn't be safe with out that.

  • wut

  • Why can't schools make math this interesting?

  • @RodaSmash psh then the drop out rate will increase even higher.

  • @RodaSmash ya this looks and i learnend alot

  • @RodaSmash because this math is "after school" material.. schools have the responsibility to make you comprehend such type of concepts by transferring to you the fundamentals and how they interact with each other.

Its like karate kid if you like :P in order to do that fancy martial art stuff he first needed to exercise his body and his mind by insisting on doing stupid repeatable actions like polishing cars...

  • @Emeengor But knowledge of the existence of that "fancy martial art stuff" helped him get more interested in it, and motivated him to do those mundane chores. I know I would be so much more interested in math if it could be applied to obscure things like this.

  • @RodaSmash if you got so interested in math by this video then maybe you get more interested in applied math (physics :P ) when you check out this one ---> watch?v=Ws6AAhTw7RA

  • so if I can't do this in the real world whats the point?

  • @karinadaukaeva

we hope that it could make us understand the working , elasticity, and construction of the fabric by which universe is made of,

once that is understood, it might help us in various future technologies.
