  • I know this is over a year old, but I want to comment because I've never come across someone who says the same as I do until now: If being gay is a choice, then so is being straight, and therefore we must all have those feelings. I don't understand why everyone doesn't 'get' this logic, but I'm happy I found this video. :)

  • OMG! speak the truth! I relate to this so much and yess i agree with you completely! =D

  • In response to your statement "if being gay is a choice then why wouldnt a gay person choose an easier lifestyle?" because sexuality starts to develop at an early age, before children even understand the social ramifications. Theyre not sitting down and deliberating the pros & cons. Theyre not thinking "penis or vagina, which should i choose. hmmm."

  • Its more abstract and less articulate at that age. It happens more like a child creates a persona for themself, of a hiphopper, or a punk, or preppy, etc. Theres no hiphop gene, those people are born blank and are conditioned & programmed to respond favorably towards that stuff. And the programming so to speak that goes into us, is under our control. Thats where the choice lies.

  • The fact that it may be difficult to be gay is moot. By that logic, being fat is not a choice either. Because its so difficult for them; with health problems, with being told theyre less physically attractive by society, etc. So therefore being fat is inborn & unchanging. And of course thats not true.

  • @borntokill okay I can follow your logic someone can choose to live a straight life, being gay, but will they be happy?... probably not, they are not being true to who they are. Don't you think we are socially conditioned to be straight? The nuclear family is such a strong icon, especially in American society... so by that logic, we should all favor to strive for that? Which a lot of gay people "try". Now I'm not saying it's something completely hard wired, there is a spectrim.

  • @borntokill With that spectrum there will be a diverse group of individuals who can "swing". My statement as to why wouldn't a person choose an easier life refers to the idea that it's obvious how strong emotions are, for someone to "choose" to put themselves out there realizing the ramifications. Yes overweight individuals are ostracized but society facilitates obesity. Diet doesn't necessarily change who you are, it can. Obesity is a health issue being gay isn't.

  • @borntokill So although I can get the gist of your point, they are two unlike comparisons. Music genre preferences are too miniscule in the grand scheme to compare, it's like putting clothes on, not removing your skin... we can say that personal preferences or being partial to a certain type of person is comparable i.e. butch, femme, rugged, gangster, rocker etc...

  • I'm not saying we can choose to live as gay/straight when thats not who we are. I'm saying that being straight/gay/into beastiality/vampire sex, etc. those are not who we are genetically. Those are who we are mentally. Its a purely social/psych identity. And we can re-condition ourselves if we wanted.

  • I'm straight as an arrow, but i could force myself to watch gay videos and if i put myself in an open state of mind, tell myself "this isnt icky, forget the preconceived ideas" i can not be grossed out, and eventually turned on by that. Its just programming and its not hardwired. Just like a racist person can be reprogrammed and conditioned to not fear a certain race.

  • We're all the same and capable of the same things. There arent some of us with straight genes or gay genes or bi genes. Thats far more divisive to believe anyway. We're all the same and just superficially we got conditioned to like/dislike different body types & different personalities in people and thats all this really is.

  • @borntokill If I could "chosen" to either be gay or straight, I would have chosen for my parents to love me.

  • @borntokill @borntokill From a complete scientific stand point we don't know all the genes that or at work in the brain... the brain and how it correlates to our behavior is still an anomaly. If love and attraction is completely pheromones, like we believe, then how our body reacts chemically to others is out of our control... how we choose to act is. But we can't chose those feelings or force ourselves to adapt or reprogram... I obviously live in a straight environment and am anything but.

  • i totally agree with you. i'm straight but i get really angry when people say that being gay is wrong or it's a choice and bullshit like that. people that say being gay is wrong, how do you know being straight is right? straight people can't help being attracted to the opposite sex and homosexuals can't control being attracted to the same sex. people who think otherwise need to think again.
