  • Oh my god! Did you copy recordstuff1989's The WB closedown?

  • MrBobTomato Yes it is and It was part of The WB's Night Of Favorite's And Farewells on The WB's Big Sunday from KTLA WB 5 from Los Angeles After when UPN was off Air on September 15th 2006 before KTLA CW 5 from Los Angeles.

  • The Night of Favorites and Farewells

  • the WB had buffy the CW has TVD. we all know which network was better

  • I miss the Frog and his hat :(

  • No, thank you!

  • aww i remember watching this promo...it bummed me out so much (and still does lol) i grew up on the WB. I remember all the felicity, dawson's creek, buffy, etc promos through out the years

  • Anyone know what the song is that's playing??

  • This really makes me want to cry...

  • No, thank you WB for all the entertainment, I miss michigan j. frog

  • what is the name of this song? anyone know

  • :( I miss the WB as well. Miss that little frog so much. Buffy, Angel.. all the shows.

  • My teen years in a package. I remember the days talking about Charmed, Roswell, Dawson's Creek at school with friends.

  • OMG! I'm getting so emotional watching this. I've never seen it before.

  • I'm sorry WB! I only watched Kids' WB! PLEASE COME BACK!!

  • I remember this. It was pretty sad.

  • What's with the beginning bit? I thought Garth Ancier killed Michigan him in 2005! His ghost is supposed to be the white silhouette that bows at the end!

  • @BranWar I think that was supposed to be an old WB bumper that they were using one last time before CW.

  • @BranWar the beginning bit is from the first season of smallville so this took place in 2001-2002

  • What happened afterwards? Did The CW instantly launch or did the channel sit there for a few days in ambuguity?

  • @LegalFiend I'm fairly certain that the CW launched the next day after the WB ceased airing. Interestingly, this also meant that it did sit a few days in ambiguity for the UPN shutdown two days before the WB, which meant it was three days for the launch of the CW if you were a UPN fan.

  • i want to watch pokemon

  • Or smallvile

  • Weres one tree hill

  • What is the name of the song playing in the montage?

  • Comment removed

  • @Thompsonnw Crawl by Thisway I bought their whole album just for that song! Amazing!

  • I only watched the Kids WB, but I will remember two times that I watched Smallville with my brother. In 2001, when I was three, I remember seeing the episode "Cool", and again in 2003, when I watched "Accelerate" with him. At least I was there to see Smallville turn off after 10 years, but I will always remember the WB and I am trying to get every Smallville and Supernatural season that aired on the WB. 2 left for Smallville, 1 for Supernatural, I miss you WB!!!

  • This was the final promo of The Night of Favorites and Farewells on KTLA 5, The WB before launch of The CW.

  • I turned away, looked back and Michigan J Frog struck a horrifying pose

  • What song is playing?

  • GOD I miss that damn frog he was cool.

  • @KHWendy28

Michigan J. Frog? Yeah, he's pretty awesome.

  • @VikutaaChyaaruzu yes I really to miss him I even have a stuffed frog that I got its funny. I just miss the days of the wb I guess I am getting older and the teen shows on the cw is sucking to me the only show I see on that network is supernatural and that show is awesome but the rest just not good any more.

  • @KHWendy28

The only programming I ever watch on WUPV (the Richmond, VA affiliate station for The CW) is syndicated programming, e.g. "Judge Alex" and "The People's Court", along with the local news. The rest is garbage to me.

  • Yay, So long, and Good riddance WB network :), and I'm going to miss you UPN:(.

  • This makes me wanna shed some tears. I miss the WB. I grew up with it :(

  • My WB became MyNetworkTV, UPN here became the CW.

  • @Christianrocker1990 that's NOT what happened!!! The WB and UPN merged to become The CW. MyNetworkTV, was an entirely new network which filled the subsequent void (and picked up some shows the CW axed, e.g. Smackdown)

  • Comment removed

  • Who are you to tell me that what I said was wrong?

  • @Christianrocker1990 You were wrong and he simply corrected you. There is no reason for you to freak out about it.

  • @SuperSmallville11 But I wasn't wrong, I stated exactly what happened here.

  • @Christianrocker1990 "The CW Television Network (The CW) is a television network in the United States launched at the beginning of the 2006–2007 television season. It is a joint venture between CBS Corporation, the former owners of United Paramount Network (UPN), and Time Warner's Warner Bros., former majority owner of The WB Television Network. The "CW" name is derived from the first letter of the names of these corporations (CBS and Warner Bros.)" Read it and weep.

  • @SuperSmallville11 I'm not telling you wrong, I'm telling you what freaking happened here.

Go to Wikipedia and look up WTOG and WTTA, my God.

  • @Christianrocker1990 The WB and UPN merged to create the CW. The WB then decided that it still wanted to show tv shows and it continues to do so online with shows that it had on its network.

Why don't you go to wikipedia and search "the CW Television Network" Considering that i where i got the quote for the previous post.

  • @Christianrocker1990 "MyNetworkTV began operations on September 5, 2006 with an initial affiliate lineup covering about 96 percent of the country,[1] most of which were former WB and UPN affiliates."

That does not mean that they merged to make that station. This means that the local channels "eg. Channel 27" decided to now show MyNetworkTV, not the CW. MyNetworkTV is owned by Fox, while the CW is half owned by CBS and half owned by the WB.

  • @SuperSmallville11 I'm done. You're an idiot, you're ignoring my facts in favor of arguing, have a nice life.

  • @Christianrocker1990 Really?? Because you have yet to prove any facts....you are just saying "no it happened, i am telling the truth" while i actually have facts, quotes and oh yeah my dad worked as an anchor at our local WB station.....

So whatever, you obviously have some sort of problem with admitting that you are wrong.

  • @SuperSmallville11 Obvious troll is obvious, good day.

  • @John3285 i am glad that someone understands what actually happened here

  • Good riddance. All those shows were terrible. The CW is worse. I wish WPIX would just go back to showing reruns, old movies, & baseball.

  • Could someone tell me please please where I can get this song!! BTW the CW suuucccks. Loved WB! We will miss WB!!

  • CW is crap. Heard TVD is good. Was gonna give it a chance but since they are cancelling Life Unexpected, not gonna bother! When it was WB they had shows Buffy, Dawson's Creek, etc. LUX reminded me of quality shows like that. 90210, gossip girls, Nikita, Hellcats, are all extreme superficial garbage. I, like most young adults do not relate to this. Buffy was about Vampires, but the the storylines were metaphors for what we as humans go through. Not sure what Vampire Diaries does.

  • The WB was a class act.

    UPN wasn't

  • @clj29360 Are you kidding me? The WB & UPN Are, was and always will be better than this CW and My24 Garbage we have now, early in the morning on the WB and UPN Sailor Moon Used to come on as early as 6:00AM On the wb Double dragon,The Incredible/She Hulk both came on, on the UPN Digimon used to come on in the morning before i had to go to high school when i was 14 i miss both of these stations and i won't let somebody who knows not of these shows and their era wanna know more just say so.

  • There was a time when every show I watched was on the WB. For a small network, they had some really great shows that will be considered classics in the years to come. Now we have the CW... yeah, that turned out well :-(

  • @antonzap My top three of my favorite shows were on that channel.

  • OMG! The WB had some of the best shows on TV, the late 90s' were AWESOME, I'm still in luv with the fashion of the late 90s', some of the great movies were made around that time. Shows from today don't compare to the ones from the WB!!

  • i grew watchin WB shows erry mornin..this will always b remembered as a great thing n my life 4 eva..Deuces old friend

  • Outside of the early years of Fox, The WB had a great eye for young and up-and-coming talent till the very end.

  • I've seen WB shows but they weren't popular. This still doesn't change that this was a historic moment in television history.

  • I miss the WB. All of its great shows. Also my favourite show is Smallville and the WB promoted it WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY better than CW did. Like the cast did behind the scenes stuff sometimes, interviews, commercials as you can see Tom and Michael are in the commercial opening

  • No offense to anyone, but the CW is nothing but garbage now. The WB and UPN should've stayed around. I must say that the CW had some good shows at first.... but now, its like they're not even trying.

  • I actually remember the night this happened. I wasn't aware the wb was going off air. So I thought "what the hell? James Vanderbeek and Sarah Michelle Gellar?!? Are they bringing back Dawsons Creek and Buffy?" then it faded to black and a CW promo came on. And I was like, wait...did I just change the channel? WTF IS THIS SHIT?!?

  • Miss the WB and UPN. Those networks should never had merged.

(RIP The WB and UPN, 1995-2006, you will be missed)

  • i didnt watch this till now but it seems sad because i loved dawsons creek and what i like about you and 7th heaven which this cw picked then canned

  • I wish The WB hadn't gone away I mostly watched it growing up

  • What show was Milo on on The WB?!?! I didn't know he existed until Heroes...

  • @Superflykid2008: He was on Gilmore Girls, as Rory's (Alexis Bledel) love interest.

  • Kids' WB and The WB still live...as online networks now.

  • @NightDarkness18 Yeah, that's shut down now. Sorry.

  • OH WHAT A NIGHT!

    The WB>UPN>The CW

  • Family in Canada had a final montage video similar to this when it shut down on December 31, 2009.

Family rebranded to TBS at 6:00am on January 1.

The channel currently occupies the slot (channel 6) formerly held by CHEK-TV on Shaw Cable in Vancouver.

  • No, they were well on their way out by then. I thought it was UPN that had the WWE.

  • RIP WB

    we will all miss you

  • When they shut off the Wb, It just felt weird. If im not mistaken, alot of the shows you see on Cartoon Network got a start on WB Kids, and I also learned through Wikipedia, that the reason the Sillhoutee comes up is because he "Died" Two years before the shut off. But Pokemon got its start on this network.

  • I was shocked by WB not making it, it was slow at first, but when they started to have a lot of critical hits, like Buffy, I thought it would pull a FOX, and become long term 5th network, where UPN I always felt would fail, very few good shows there.

  • OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THE FROG!!!! I MISS IT! But seriously, look at ALL of the stars that have come out of the WB. I don't care what people say about the WB (and now the CW) being a bad network, with bad shows and whatever, it has produced such big stars who have moved on to such successful careers! All you have to do is what the CW and you know that you are watching the new up-and-comers. Give it a few years and they will all have pretty established, successful careers

  • well now jetix doesn't exist anymore instead it is disney xd which sucks alot

  • Can anyone tell me if this was the absolute last thing ever to play on the WB? I stayed up that night but fell asleep, I remember it was around this time in 2006.

  • Yeah, this was the last footage the station transmitted. It faded to black on an image of Michigan J. Frog and then went off the air.

  • Yes, this was the WB's final moments.

  • @coupleofbeers31 Yep it was.

  • I miss you WB!!! :'(

  • goodbye W.B.

  • I miss the WB too. I loved it. I used to love watching some of the shows that came on that channel.

  • I miss The WB!!! The C.W. is fucking awful, and so is Dawn!

  • Wait Dawn? As in Dawn Summers, Buffy's sister? lol

  • No Dawn Ostroff the head of The C.W.

  • i still miss the wb. i wonder what would have happen if the wb never had to emerge instead shows like 90210 and gossip girl would be on the wb and help the network once again with shows online as the network of the youth just like in the pass. the wb

  • no the wb wasnt much of a youth programming network...

The CW suits it better.... they should have kept the WB though!

  • Think about it. It kinda' happened with the WB itself. It has happened to Kids WB. Fox Kids was operated on and changed so many times that they had to put it down, and Toonami was watered down into submission.

  • Fox Kids was sold to ABC Family to become Jetix which in retrospect was prety good. :(

  • @beyrsf

Toonami started to go bad when the old CEO left.

  • You see people, I'm a retro fan. I am open to the new, but I ALWAYS cherish the old that came before it. Is it just me or do we as retro fans always get the short end of the stick every time a decade plus long block or network closes, regardless of whether we get a "fair warning or not.

  • Who the HELL's idea was it to just air a few PILOT episodes of a FEW shows that didn't really define the block as much as others.

  • What do you mean? I know they played Felicity, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dawson's Creek. Those were all great shows. I do think they could have left Angel out. I absolutely love Angel, but I don't think it defined the network either, especially when it was the WB that canceled it. There were a lot of other shows that they really could have shown. Which ones would you have liked to have seen?

  • I think you've forgotten that WB canceled Buffy too (after season 5). So if they removed Angel from the promos due to cancelation, they'd have to remove Buffy as well, and that would just be wrong. Both of these shows covered HALF the WB's lifespan.. they helped define the network.

As for why WB and UPN ceased to exist, it's for the same reason why Sirius and XM radio merged. They were nearly bankrupt and had no choice.

It was either merge or die.

  • WB actually made a 3 min long promo that featured almost every show every put on the station

  • did sabrina the teenage witch ever broadcast on the WB

  • Sabrina was on ABC back in the late-90's. MJH probably had some other short-lived show on the late WB, but I could be wrong.

  • She moved to the WB with Sabrina goes to college.

  • The last one or two seasons aired on the WB.

  • As I stated earlier, if this was THE final broadcast of a network or block that has defined a generation such as the WB, then why not end it with all of the FINAL episodes.

  • Comment removed

  • To tell you all the truth, I DID enjoy the farewell package w/Michigan at the end, but the episodes of the "selected" shows that aired sucked! I mean if this was THE final farewell to the WB network as a whole (The WB as well as Kids WB) why not end it with SERIES finales of ALL of their memorable shows INCLUDING Steve Harvey, Smart Guy, Sister Sister, etc. immediatly following the Kids WB farewell. But did they do that.... NO! I would barely except this as a FAREWELL compared to Toonami's.

  • WB was the first major TV network in the USA to shut down since DuMont faded out in 1956.

  • Raise your hand if this either made you remember the good shows on TV,made you shed a tear...or both.

    :::raises hand:::

  • man everything literly died in this world after 2006... economy died, games duck like hell (well they arent as good as they were...) all the good shows and blocks, channels, etc are gone and all thats on tv is re runs or failed atempts to get viewers.... man why did the kill the WB the only good normal channel! (fox is good too but not as good)kidswb too....

  • *economy is worsening, games suck

    re runs*

  • I am in tears right now, because all you have said came to pass. It's true. But we must endure if we are to see the better age of everything. Good games will come. Tv shows will be good again. Just endure. and this promo made me cry, too.

  • Am I the only one who remembers Nick Freno?

that was one of my favorites :-)

  • Still Missing Charmed

Was Holly M. Combs even in this..if not thats horrible she was part of one of their best and well performing television shows.

  • They were doing clips like this all week, but I guess this was just the long final clip. I would think she was in one of the other clips. It's sad, they should have had a really long clip with all the casts.

  • Ghetto? lol what was "ghetto" about the WB?

  • everything! the budget, the acting, the commercials, the shows, the frog!! cheap and ghetto.

  • you obviously don't understand the definition of ghetto and never actually watched the good shows that were on the WB to know that there were really good shows.

  • how the hell is michigan j frog ghetto? they included him in the wb for most of its lifespan until they took him away near the network's lifespan at a desperate attempt to change their image so more people would like him.

  • Grew up to kids WB and the actual WB. It sucks seeing it go.

  • even here in mexico, i feel i grew up watrching manyof the wbs shows ! i had it on sky, and watchedit all the time !

  • Damn I miss Charmed So Much

    Great SHOW!

  • i know right!!!!

    I miss all the shows,

reba charmed gilmore girls angel buffy 7th heaven, ALL THE SHOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ahh..the WB practically represented my childhood! Those were the good ole' days! It was so sad to see it go!

  • i miss the WB a lot,i watched it alot when i was younger, but at least they gave it a tribute at the end,my other fav channel was Nickelodeon GaS (Games and Sports),and it hurt even worse how it ended, cause it just went on as if it wasn't going off,and just went off the air during a commercial.the WB however, gave there channel a goodbye tribute, makes Nickelodeon and Viacom Inc. look worse then they did before.

    R.I.P. The WB

  • your welcome.

  • To end it all, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is what got the WB Teen Drama Year to a Boom Period, Buffy was the show that inspire the WB to get more Teen Drama shows like "Dawson's Creek", "Felicity", etc.

in 2002 that whole Teen Drama Was waning down and Damson's Creek was not getting good demographics in that age limit anymore.

Why do you think the network was going down after 2003...the demographics.

  • kid the first broadcaster to go out of business

was Dumont that happen because they only broadcast out of Newyork that was in 1955.

their big shows were captain video and Jackie Gleason

  • Easy, We can sign the petition up to 50,000 people and we'll bring it back!

  • What they should do is trun TBS into The WB and Cartoon Network into Kids' WB!

  • KidsWB should have their own channel and not replace Cartoon Network! Anyone think The CW should be KidsWB?

  • Yeah.... how the heck is it possibly going to return to television? I don't see that happening any time soon... and yeah, poor guy... he was awesome, and I can do a pretty good voice impression of him too...

  • Well look no longer people!! The WB is back online!! and coming soon to be back on Television!

  • Really I know its online but how will it be able to come back on Television

  • Well the WB was a network that had some pretty great shows because of the actors/Actresses and writers...It was the shows that made them great. If the WB comes back and promotes crappy shows..then spare me. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what they have to offer..I grew up with the WB though..so we'll see. May bring some comfy fuzzy feelings back :P

  • and THE !@#$%^& CW SUUUUUUKS!

  • No, Buffy started it all.

  • Well yes, but Dawson's was the show that really got the WB the popularity it deserved and made it a cultural phenomenon.

  • i miss kids wb man.....

  • me 2

  • Looks like poor ol' Michigan J. Frog's out of a job.

WB, we hardly knew ye... <|,-(

  • LOL that promo was classier than 99% of the programming on the network. Then again MyNetwork makes WB look like PBS.

Loved Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum. That was cute.

  • I just cried right here...

I basically looked at all the black actorsz..

Because I enjoyed watching Sister Sister &

the Wayans Brothersz.. & The Jamie Foxx Show..

    THANK GOD 4 B.E.T. , YOUTUBE , & ABCFAMILY..

imma miss michigan.. i renamed my frog after him..

  • I used to love coming home from school and watch the Bernie Mac Show on The WB. I love the CW, but the WB was MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES!!

  • Oh, waaah. Another corporation dead. I miss the DuMont network, haha!

  • Buffy, Charmed, Angel, Smallville, 7th Heaven, Sister, Sister, Even newbster Supernatural came from TheWB. the network was awesome.

UPN was okay too, pretty much because of SmackDown and One on One.

when i think of wb, i think 90s.

i'm 17 now.. so i grew up watching the wb.

  • I remember watching this happen, I mad sure I tuned in to see the final moments of the wb.

I miss it! Mynetwork is shit

  • I missed it, didn't even know until a year later that the WB was replaced by the CW.

  • My most viewed video is a tribute to the WB<3

I heard it was a website now, so thats a plus :)

  • Truly the best shows of my generation were on this network.

    I'll always remember it. <3

  • The WB is now an online network.

  • You got that right!

  • You can never forget about tha WB frog.

  • I thought it was interesting that roughly one year after UPN canceled star trek Enterprise and the WB canceled Angel that both networks got shut down. Both spin offs of franchises that either launched the network, UPN, or the one that defined their network, WB.

  • angel was cancelled 2 years before the WB was killed. it was when they killed Michigan J. Frog that the ratings decreased, and then they finally died..

  • That was really dramatic.

  • Used to watched the WB as a teen. Was sadden to see its demise. I've heard rumors that the producers of "America Idol" went to both the WB & UPN before signing up with FOX. Had either took the show...

And what's up with My Network? They should have let the remaining TV stations become independent (let the stations run their own night programming as they see fit) rather than create another network that noone's watching.

  • yea seriously, My Network Tv needs to die.

  • Thank You. Another person feels the same way. MyNetwork is worse than any tv network ever. At least UPN had a few good shows. What has Mynetwork done as basically Fox-Tv Network 2? Time to put Mynetwork to bed.

  • man when the Michigan frog bowed out at the end...that was deep...RIP WB!!!!!!!

  • buffy and dawson's creek were 7th grade. young americans and roswell were 9th grade. angel was 10th.

it's shocking. but now that i think about it, the wb was a significant part of my adolescent years.

    *sigh* the memories....

  • Must be getting old LOL. Fox Tv was for me in late 1980's/early '90's as a teen what was the old WB was to you. WB and UPN came on scene about 15-20 years too late. If either or both came out around 1981, ahead of Fox, they both probabl still be on the air now.

  • i feel like going out and spending hundreds of dollars on dvds for those old shows.

  • Dagggg I forgot about alot of those shows, like charmed, and dawsons creek, and sister sister! The CW is okay sometimes, but for the most part they suck. Except for Gossip Girl, Smallville, Top Model, and One Tree Hill.

  • They did lose a lot of money in their last seasons. Both CBS and Time Warner figured that if they merged, both parties would bounced back financially, but, IMHO, I thought they should've kept The WB alive and absorbed UPN into CBS, the con would've been UPN stations scrambling for programming if My Network TV hadn't existed.

  • I miss thissss. Uh. Can we go back in time please.

    Makes me sad.

  • I LOVE THISS!!! Especailly the begining!!

I think Michael is sooo damm funny and I love tom and him and Smallville!!

  • Yeah, too bad Smallville's gone down the crappr, especially with Michael leaving after this season.

  • Yeah I heard he was leaving :(!!

  • There's a book out there that gives the entire history of Both the WB & UPN, right down to the details. It's called "Season Finale" by Susanne Daniels & Cynthia Littleton, and it's an incredible read if you're into Television and how it works. Check it out!

  • really? that should be worth a read. know where I can get it? My bookstores suck

  • I got mine @ Boarders, try that.

  • Got the book, its pretty good.

  • Thanks, I'll check it out!

  • Just finished the book, definitely worth a read! Thanks for telling me about it!

  • indeed, a piece of broadcast history. :P

  • Not just a PIECE but 'PIECES,' it made big impacts on TV!
