Doctors told her it would take a year to get off the drugs and if she went cold turkey she would have seizures and body pain. She hurt a bit but had no seizures and she got off of everything in 4 weeks.

People who get those side effects usually took very large doses for many years and the suffered horrible hallucinations without them. Voices tell them the most demonic things to torture them. I would like to know what anti-psychotic medication caused this demage. I've been taking risperdal for two years now (2mg a day). It's an atypical anti-psychotic drug. I take it for depression, anxiety, paranoya, suspicious thoughts (which classifies as mild schysophrenia). No side effects so far. But it really scares me to see the effects long term use can have. Some people suffer strokes, seizures, diabetes, even death. Should I just discontinue the treatment and deal with my madness?

I actually stopped taking the medication straight after I've seen all this scary footage. I went to consult my doctor and to my amusement (or to my horror) he wasn't aware of any danger of the damage the drugs could cause.

But thanks to all the people who spoke up here, I decided I'd rather deal with my problems on my own and not take these drugs. So, really, from my heart, thank you all.

Your shrink was lying to you: if he has an MD he knew what they were doing to your brain and that it had the potential to be disasterous, tho he may have been deluded into thinking it was "worth the risk" or just wanted your money or whatever.

After I stopped the medication (risperdal - which has an anti-anxiety effect as well as anti-psychotic), it wasn't easy at all at the beginning. But I can honestly say now, that I function absolutely normally through my own willpower and dedication to my well-being.

I think that the long term evolution has many factors attached to it but I certainly would´t demonize psychiatric treatments. There are people who get better on those, despite the side effects. some side effects are severe, then again: what other option we have in those moments when the illness is a life threatening condition? And how is the government profiting from having disabled citizens I do not understand..
