  • I did not know about the water thing and let mine run reving it up over and over again for a good minute or more until cylinders got toasty, checked out this video and decided to check the impeller. It looked good as new.. I wouldn't recommend doing this but people get their panties in a bind. These engines are built like tanks and I will put my 60hp Sportifour against any yamaha or non OMC anyday.

  • Do you have any idea where i can find a starter for one of these?

  • After running it dry, you'll need to replace water pump empeller. For every second it runs dry the fast the empeller wears out. Doesn't matter if you just ran water in it.

  • @Iowaracefan impeller not empeller dumb ass

  • @jordyboy0129 if you understood what I was trying to say, then you must be a dumb ass for correcting my spelling.

  • your a retard

  • @jordyboy0129 Ok, you are arguing with me on youtube? nuff said, lol.

  • Bonjour,

j'ai le meme moteur mais qui ne demarre pas, les bougies sont neuves et elles sont activées electriquement, j'ai nettoyé entierement le carburateur mais il ne demarre pas

    merci pou vos reponses

  • whoa dude!!! dont do that...you'll burn up your impeller fast! but im sure everyone below me has said that already. lol

but a great running motor by the way!

  • unfortunately, you have just totally fried your water pump impeller. People do this all the time. You must NEVER run an outboard without a steady supply of water to the pump. The impeller is made from soft rubber & will melt in seconds if not pumping water.

  • thats not totally true, i have owned more outboards then a normal person should

this month along i have bought 5 more

i start engines all the time for just a minute, enough to see if they run.

because at my shop i have no water until it rains. when i try them in a barrel they still pump water.

water pumps should be changed every 2-3 years any way. it's not a part you want to change after it goes bad.

  • "i have owned more outboards then a normal person should"

I guess that makes you abnormal.

  • Totally not true , I rebuild outboards all the time and they can run for short periods without water with no damage to the pump, the pump design (flexible vien pump ) allows this, in my main line of work with deal witrh alot of industrial pumps and this is one of the specific benifits of this style of pump unlike a progresive cavity which will wreck itself in seconds .

  • hey i just got one of these motors where is a go0d place to find a lower unit for one thanks

  • I got a '64 90s evinrude [missing prop/starter] for parts if your interested respond with a E mail adress and we'll talk...in So. Cal.

  • nice outboard ,i have one like that and i think they perform as a 150 mariner

    on my 12'' trihull fiberglass

  • Hi there!

Nice engine! I've just bought the same on ebay! But there's question I want to ask. What's the weight of this machine?

    Greets Richard

  • Hi Richard,

Im can't give you the exact amount, but one year back, it took my dad and uncle, plus my cousin and myself, to carry this engine on a "sling" 250 feet... my guess 575lbs.... please post the front of the cover if you can.... Happy and safe boating

  • Hello,

How can I post you a front cover? Youtube allows me to post a video message but no image... Richard

  • Not sure the wife would be to happy when she wants to cook a BBQ. LOL. i have the same engine in a 65hp 43 years and still running.

  • this is the stuff of legends!

  • I just boat a 1976 Larson 15' with this 1967 Evinrude 80HP. It works great --starts right up. Right now I set the lower unit in a large barrel of water with the hose running inside and in order to flush it. Do you know of a attachment that I can use to flush this motor more easily -- ears don't work and I want to use it is salt water an store it on a boat lift --so I can't pull it out of the water after each salt use but I am hoping to find a way to flush it on the boat lift ?? Any help?

  • i jus bought a boat with a 1967 erude on it same as urs jus in blak

  • get a life dude seriously...

  • running without cooling water is a great way to seize pistons, and revving without load is also a good way to throw a connecting rod

  • thats true, i had water connected up to it just before i put it away but forgot to tape it running so i only ran it for 25 sec so it wouldn't over heat.

  • oh ok thats ok

but sometimes people that are new to boating don't know to use flushing water to cool the motor

check out my video of my 72' 80 Mercury running

  • sweet
