Gordon, i'm having a Nikon D3000 camera....and it has only the basic lens with that i can't take any picture which is far... so can u tell me few company's which is selling good lens with cheap price...
Well done. And yes, even this yank knows it's pronounced nickon. But who cares?
I have the next gen 18-200 vr2. Love it but far from realizing it's potential. Still learning. Would love to get an ideal setting for handheld indoor low light no flash shots. For a natural result, not that yellow 'glowy' hue. The vr helps clarity a great deal, but as a beginner, I haven't figured out which setting combo will yield best result possible. Thanks for the review!
You English guys need to learn this....... Nikon, read that, not nickon, That is an I behind that N...... Nikon as in the first part of Night....... Nikon. If you can't get that right then give up the brand entirely and get yourself a Canon, surely you can't fuck that up.....
@jimphotocock Jim, you need to spend some time out of North America. It's only you guys who pronounce it Nigh-kon. Remember this is a Japanese company and they pronounce it Knee-kon, so technically I'm closer to the correct pronunciation. Another more simple solution for you would be to simply stop watching videos by English people - or for that matter, anyone outside of N America.
@cameralabs I cannot believe that you have actually replied this troll's comment. I appreciate it, though. I live in the states and am the only one among my friends who pronounces it "knee-kon". Not just because it sounds cooler and Japanese, it is the correct way. It is moot that an American guy tries to give pronunciation lessons to a British guy online.
Thank you so very much for your reviews, Gordon! They are extremely helpful.
@jibiuro Thanks, I appreciate your comment. I have nothing against people pronouncing things different ways - after all, Brits and Americans say things like Tomato differently - but the thing which gets me is when people say I am (or someone else is) wrong. Not wrong, just different.
@jimphotocock What a idiot. Its pronounced as, "Knee-kon". Get that right you damn shit. I don't care how you pronounce it in your country. Ignorant kid.
Hey, I live by your reviews, and was wondering if this would be an ideal step up from the 18-105mm kit lens that I bought with my Nikon D90, I need the extra zoom for sports photography, but don't want anything which only half does the job!xx
I'm new (ish) to photography. Is it possible to mix and match lenses.. like for e.g. a Nikon Lens with a Canon body? It's a stupid question, I know - I'm probably wasting your time asking you this.
@Fakeblad If you're stil wondering, you can buy an adaptor to use Canon lenses on Nikon bodies, but not the other way around - due to the physical construction of Nikon bodies.
With third-party manufacturers (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina) you have to buy lenses with the appropriate mount for your camera body.
I am newbie - would you plz tell me whether i should be looking for my warranty papers on this lens because when it's zoomed out in horizontal position, and if I move camera in slightly jerky manner, the inner barrel (don't know what else to call it) wobbles very very so slightly? Mine however doesn't close or open in vertical position under its own weight.
i started watching your reviews 3 months ago and now im a owner of nikon d5000 with 18-55 VR and 70-300 lenses. Untill now i cant get enough of this kit provided but my aim is to shoot more of indoor model photography or photography of ramp models. What lens do you suggest would be the best for me??

Have just purchased nikons new 7000 and am using a n 18/ 135 with it Could it be "overkill " to get the 18/200 v11 lens the subject of your excellent review as I was planning on doing ?
I purchased a Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens but I can't seem to be able to attach it to my Nikon D60. I read many reviews that this lens is suppose to workon this camera. Can you help me?
Hi Gordon. Great review, and I've actually just bought an 18-200 (Making myself skint in the process), but I was wondering, where is the beautiful scenery that you use to demonstrate the zoom range of the lenses? Surely you don't fly out there every time a new lens comes out, do you?!
I'd really need some advice... I am using a Nikon D300 and I already have the following lenses: Nikkor 18-55 DX VR, Nikkor 55-200 DX VR and a Sigma 10-20 for wider angles. I am considering buying one of the two in a couple of weeks: Nikkor 16-85 or the subject of this review, the 18-200. Buying the 16-85, I can actually sell my 18-55, and if I go for the 18-200, I can even sell both of my existing Nikkor lenses. I mostly shoot landscapes. Which of the two would you buy?
Hello Gordon. Im new the the Dslr world and am thinking of buying the nikon d90. do you have any recommendations for lenses. I would be using the camera for a variety of different photos, any help is appreciated
Which lens would u recommend for someone who is going to asia for 6 monts and want to take great shots of landscapes, temples and people. I am going to buy a Nikon d90 or d5000.
I just found this clip after looking at the VRII-version first, and hearing about being able to do comparison between this lens and the Sigma fex I went to your website, but I can't seem to find the comparison between the other lenses and the Nikkor, could you point me in the direction of these?
Hi Gordon! Im thinking of buying a second lens next to my 18-55mm kitlens. I mostly use my D5000 to shoot photos of supercars, so carspotting. What would be the most accurate lens for this kind of photography, a zoom lens or a fixed lens like lets say the 50mm 1.4? I want to get cars in the center with a blurred background, so that the car is pictured very sharp. Does anyone know what lens i should go for? Thank you very much!!
hi i am a great fan of cameralabs... the only site that makes sense for a amateur. i need your help tho. i would be buying DSLR for the first time. I am planning for the Nikon D5000 + AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II Lens. Can you please let me know if this is a good buy. ALSO i have a doubt on Autfocus. Does the lens that i have mentioned have autofocus ?? Thanks in Advance
@jahnab If you want the best quality, I'd go for the 16-85mm. If you want the most convenience, get the 18-200mm. See the Recommended Nikkor lenses guide in the lenses section at cameralabs . com.
Hello, great videos and great website! but I have a question that I have not seen answered. I have a D5000 and want this lens, but was told by a guy who was obviously a better photographer than myself that the 18-200mm lens was too big/heavy for the D5000 body and stressed how it would make the setup unbalanced. Is this truly an issue, or was he just trying to be me to buy a better camera, haha
you should have no worries using the D5000 with the 18-200. I use this setup myself, as well as using it with my D90. Unless you want to shoot super-telephoto, its the only lense you'll ever need!
Hello. I have been debating which lens i'm going to get for my camera, I have a nikon d90 and I've been looking for a wedding, portrait and landscape in just 1 lens. Would you recommend what kind of lens should I get?
@shintotz Head on over to cameralabs . com and click on the lenses section - then go to the recommended Nikkor lenses link and you'll see the models I'd go for.
i dont get the problem with lense creeping.....idk about you guys but if im hand holding my camera i hold the lens barrel in one hand and the body in the other.....my hand always keeps the lense from being able to creep by stoping the ring from moving
@codeoverride I'm fairly positive that is normal. It's just a noise that is produced when VR is engaged. It wont make the noise when the VR is off. My lens and many other do the same. It's normal and you've got nothing to worry about!
I'll be buying the 18-200mm VR II next week, along with the D90 body. Very excited, as all I can find for reviews are praising the quality of both items.
If your lens creeps, use a thick elastic band. I know it doesn't look great, but it works. If your picky, get a black silicon wrist band. In black, it is hardly noticeable.
I recently purchased a nikkor 18-200 VR II lens. According to nikon, this VR II lens is equipped with a new zoom mechanism to combat the "zoom creep" and it also comes with a zoom lock at 18mm so the lens won't fall down if you're carrying it pointed downwars. My problem is that it still has the zoom creep somewhere between 55-185. Is this still normal or defective if we base it on the word from nikon? Appreciate it if you could help me on this..Thanks and more power.
I haven't tested it so can't say, but I'd suspect it still suffers from some creep, especially over time, but maybe not as much as the Mark I version.
when you look at a lens creeping, it seems kinda cute with a cartoon sound effect playing in your mind, but seriously speaking, lens creeping is a burden..
Hi Gordon, i'd like to say thanks for helping me choose my first dslr, your website was fantastic. I have a nikon d3000 with the 18-55mm vr lens and am thinking of buying a second lens, would i be better to buy the nikkor 55-200mm vr lens or buy say a sigma or tamron 18-200mm lens? and are there any problems with the 3piece lens like the sigma 18-200mm compared to the 2piece lens of the nikkor, any help on this would be great
Excellent review. Very even handed and language and delivery are just fantastic.

@luci66 It really does depend on how far you'd zoom.

Hello. I have been debating which lens i'm going to get for my camera, I have a nikon d90 and I've been looking for a wedding, portrait and landscape in just 1 lens. Would you recommend what kind of lens should I get?
shintotz 1 year ago
@shintotz Head on over to cameralabs . com and click on the lenses section - then go to the recommended Nikkor lenses link and you'll see the models I'd go for.

Would this be a good lens for landscape shots?
ExNihiloJimmy 1 year ago
@ExNihiloJimmy Yes! 18mm is sufficient for wideangle shots.

18-200?
I need to get that ~_~
cjgan80 1 year ago
You are correct. There is a zoom lock on 18-200mm VR II. Lens still creeps but I do not care. Glad that I got it with my D90.

i dont get the problem with lense creeping.....idk about you guys but if im hand holding my camera i hold the lens barrel in one hand and the body in the other.....my hand always keeps the lense from being able to creep by stoping the ring from moving
derfm1 1 year ago
He specified exactly why that might be a problem. If you mount on a tripod pointing straight up, or down, it may pose a problem.

My 18-200mm VR makes a high pitch noise when focusing (not the click on and off but in between). Is this normal? Thanks!
codeoverride 1 year ago
@codeoverride I'm fairly positive that is normal. It's just a noise that is produced when VR is engaged. It wont make the noise when the VR is off. My lens and many other do the same. It's normal and you've got nothing to worry about!

I'll be buying the 18-200mm VR II next week, along with the D90 body. Very excited, as all I can find for reviews are praising the quality of both items.

I just bought the newest version of this lens for my D300s. It has a lock button to stop the lens from creeping. And yes it will fit your d300.

Skimmt 2 years ago
500/200=2.5x
classicalneoc 2 years ago 2
500 mm is 2.5x more than 200 mm but 500mm is 27x more zoom than 18mm.

Thanks fot the review.
Gordon, which one is better in IQ the 18-200 or the 18-105? I care about sharpness and image quality, not so much about the lens range.
amableodiable 2 years ago
Hi Gordon does this lens works on nikon d300
yayrn 2 years ago 2
If your lens creeps, use a thick elastic band. I know it doesn't look great, but it works. If your picky, get a black silicon wrist band. In black, it is hardly noticeable.

Hi Gordon,
I recently purchased a nikkor 18-200 VR II lens. Appreciate it if you could help me on this..Thanks and more power.
asls1980 2 years ago
I haven't tested it so can't say, but I'd suspect it still suffers from some creep, especially over time, but maybe not as much as the Mark I version.

when you look at a lens creeping, it seems kinda cute with a cartoon sound effect playing in your mind, but seriously speaking, lens creeping is a burden..

It's for DX SLRs.. You need a lens for FX bodies to use the for film SLRs
