  • Always wondered what it would sound like if you put a JCM800 preamp section in front of a lower wattage output section with a pair of EL84's. I think I know now. Although, this might have a bit more gain on tap, but basically, it sounds like an early 800. They can be had used for 200 bucks. I don't NEED yet another EL84 amp, but this is just so nice for so cheap, and it has a sound that isn't like anything I already have, so maybe I should make some room for a new amp!

  • I would have liked to have seen you mess with the presence control a bit, but it's a great demo nevertheless. Good job with the mic and the mix!

  • You have a cool accent.

  • Does this amp take pedals well, like say a chorus or reverb pedal? Or maybe even a high gain metal pedal?

  • I have one and the reverb is really weak on it. I was just wondering if you find the same thing? Thankj you.

  • Is it too loud compare to bedroom volume level?

  • O.K. How the hell am I supposed to be able to decide which amp I like when he play's like that in every demo????? LoL great job

  • Fricking awesome demo man. Was on the fence about this one, but this sold me on it.

  • would this be a good amp for for thrash metal ?

  • Is there enough clean headroom? Thanks in advance

  • @tjnugent62 Nah, it overdrives quickly. This ain't no country pickin amp - it's a rock machine! :)

  • @tjnugent62 It's clean with single coils, but it's mostly a driven amp.

  • @tjnugent62 after hearing this and buying one i found that if you replace the preamp tubes ( its comes with 3 12ax7s) and out 2 12au7's and a 12ax7 in that the headroom really opens up.

    -just a thought

  • @20thCenturyBoyy Ok.. let me get this right. It comes with 3 12AX7's and if you replace two of them with 12AU7's and leave 1 12AX7 the amp really opens up? Which spot gets the 12AX7?

    Thanks,

    TJ

  • Is this amp hand-wired or on a PCB? Also, how would you compare it to the new VHT low price amps?

  • @tjnugent62 PCB. I haven't tried those VHT amps so I don't know.

  • my marshall vs-100 works good for now but this is definitely my next amp.

  • These are truly magnificent amps. I've had a JCA20H for a couple of months now and it truly is brilliant

  • the tone at 4:20 is what made me buy this amp. i own it, ridiculous amp for the price. love it.

  • @jonchristianify Hehe,i agree. This amp+my 212 vintage 30 wllsound awesome.

  • lovin the accent

  • Christmas gift to me :)

  • @Icebud1994 you won't be disapointed. i own it. ridiculous amp for the price

  • @ christenstjohn and he plays like shit too right?

  • great review, dammit i want this amp very bad. is it loud enough to be heard over the drummer? (he is quite loud)

  • so is there a difference between EL84 tubes and EL34s, like are they interchangable?

  • I've read that these Jet City amps are almost direct copies of a lot of Soldano designs and are really great sounding - as you can hear.

  • @damrak1969 Could be, Mike Soldano designed the Jet city amps

  • @damrak1969 Yeah, it's basically a single channel SLO. But of course it doesn't have everything like the SLO would (chassis mounted pots, chassis mounted tubes, hand wired circuit, etc...)

  • great review, how is the volume on this?

  • This guy have a scandinavien accent.

  • What wattage rating is the speaker?Any info? Not important?

  • Sounds like shit to me.

  • I hate how he randomly looks up at the camera lol. but seriously awesome amp, best for the money imho. Great demo! I am going to buy this.

  • uhhhh... i think i know what amp i want now. your bald spot inspires me to be a better person "from a balding teenager"

  • Your demo of the "Hell" guitar was spot on...amazing talent

  • with god as my witness, this vid single handedly is making me buy this amp.

  • my friend...i can honestly say your playing might have just sold me this amp... kinda have to decide with this and the 22 watt coming out now...but im not really fond of the plastic knobs, (but fx loop and 2 channels sound rly good) thing is i dont rly need a second channel or the fx loop if i just get my reverb straight. also the blackstar ht20 is looking good...rly good any thoughts? btw your class 5 review is a1!!

  • less talk-y more play-y

  • For people who wonder wether this would be great for metal I would have to say no.

One 12" speaker ain't enough if you wanna cut trough the fat bass and double kick,

20watts is loud but perhaps not loud enough compared to a 6505 or a Powerball.

Plus the gain would sound weak to those using down tunings such as drop B,A,G etc.

Krank makes some pretty good little low wattage amps for metal check them out.

  • @johndcofdc how about this head through a normal 4x12? would that do it for metal?

  • @RcUniverseGuy

2 X 12 or a 4 X 12 will help you cut trough. You will need some kind of boost to add extra gain or a straight up heavy gain pedal and play on the clean channel. I am considering this amp for blues and rock, for metal I would go wiht Bugera 6260 or the 6262. There is a lot of hate thrown at Bugera, but for a musician on a budget I think you can't go wrong.

  • Hi, how much does it cost and can you play heavy metal on it? Does it sound good with a heavy distortion? Thanks :D

  • @olo2223 Some of the notes at 06:04 are close to the sound I would use in a sludge project (with lower tuning and some more tone), and this demo sounds good, but I also think that they should do more demos for metal in general, because there is a great search for small metal amps.

  • sounds good.

  • 2:28 joe satriani

  • Robert, What can I say? You have some great chops for rock, rock-a-billy, and who knows what else. Do you play jazz guitar as well?

  • super nice playing !!

  • This demo was way too short! Brilliant playing, as always.

  • addictive combination: awesome sound AND playing! :)

  • this vs marshall class 5 what has better tone for practice

  • @2smokesnifer whichever one sounds better to you.

  • @2smokesnifer to get gain with the class 5 (if you don't have a pedal), you really have to crank it loud, and believe me, those things are loud! I just sold mine because I'm moving into a condo. But if noise level isn't really an issue, I'd say go for either. Keep in mind that the Class 5 is a vintage sounding amp. For metal the JC is better.

  • Awesome demo of this amp! I just got mine yesterday.

  • I loved my JCA Combo. Only issue I have with it is volume for playing clean. Unless you mod the amp, the clean just isn't loud enough. Awesome amp for rocking it out! Great Demo! Unlike many "Demos" found on Youtube, Robert actually owns the amp. Cool feature is you can add a second cabinet and make a mini full stack!

  • I plan to replace the harsh chinese preamp tubes with 12AV7s.

Nice that the amp has presence off of the power amp to tame the harsh high frequency harmonics, unlike the voxes.

  • 250US with free shipping, hard to get a seller to sell to Canadians. I ordered one

  • Please review the Peavey Classic 30

  • thanks Robert - you're the man! Really love your playing.

  • I see you're using your Hagstrom quite a lot lately.

    Why?

  • @surfco what reason do you need other than : it sounds awesome ?

  • @surfco cause its freakin bitchin
