  • I've got all New Order's albums. They made bright songs, they made darker ones. They made intimis songs, they made commercial ones. They made a lot of brilliant songs and they made a few shitty ones. But I love New Order. I love Bernard Sumner's voice even when it's awful in live. New Order made some perfect pop songs which accompany you during your whole life. They just made human songs. So thank you New Order for being human, and I'm waiting impatiently for your next album!

  • @Slushyyy639

.... but isn't it kind of idiotic that the dude with the second top comment on this video is proclaiming that fucking "blue monday" by new order was one of the first "truly totally electronic" (you know, even when peter hook clearly plays bass in this live performance) songs? i think if someone is DEAD wrong, you should let them know, no?

  • @chewbaccapoopy I never said it was fully electronic, jesus christ i was just trying to defend that one dude frome being flamed, remind me to never do nice things again.

  • Good band, bernard can't sing but he puts a song over well. I like them.

  • muy bueno. Siempre el original es el mejor. :)

  • Hooky kicks ass

  • classic. love the floppies in the fat synth

  • que les pasa a 10 personas?

  • I did not like this kind of new wave pop, but there's something about this song i like

  • lol 1:21

    bernard knows better

  • This is 83!!!! 83!!!! I was only 7 - and this is seminal!

  • they always had trouble playing this song live........at least they are doing it LIVE!!!!

more than i can say about most music today

  • I love how Bernie just kinda pushes poor Gillian aside.

  • love the disk swap @ 3:33min XD

  • i love this song!

  • You've gotta wonder what the audience was thinking; here you've got one of the first truly, totally electronic songs and the band is just standing there pushing buttons and nodding their heads instead of jamming on guitars and jumping around.

  • @SchattenmannCN you are very confused buddy, they are not Poison or Deff Lepard

  • @SchattenmannCN ever heard of Kraftwerk?

  • @SchattenmannCN

one of the first truly electronic songs??? you sir know NOTHING about music.... idiot.

  • @chewbaccapoopy in the defense of that guy, FUCK YOU!

  • @Slushyyy639

haha. you probably thought the same thing as him, you fucking dolt.

  • @chewbaccapoopy i know my electronic music history asshole, but just because people dont know wether this is an early electronic song or not doesnt mean you should call them idiots... fuckin keyboard warriors.

  • @Slushyyy639 and not just about the bass.... it's fucking 1983...... like "blue monday" is one of the first electronic songs in the year 1983.

  • @SchattenmannCN

This is an amazing song, and performance, but saying this is the first truly toally electronic songs is WAY wrong.

  • How does it feel when you're heart goes cold.....

  • So i see Bernard was the synth head and the not the girl

  • ...if only this magnificent video had more views than bieber and gaga(((

  • he rules..i love him

  • lol when he says "those who came all over me"

  • Check out the keyboardist switching 5 inch floppy disks at about 3:33 in the video. Man, that brings back memories.

  • @1FESTUS I don't play keys, and I couldn't find any info about that, why does the keyboardist put floppy disks in ??

  • @MrCCRFan It has the different sounds/tones/effects for the keyboard, you can hear the different effect as he resumes playing. Our keyboard we have now has all the different effects loaded in it. Data storage/memory capacity has grown leaps and bounds since the early 80's.

  • @MrCCRFan

Different floppies have different sounds on them more then likely.

Key boards back then probably weren't able to hold many different sounds so to add more you put in floppies with different sounds on them.

  • Absolutely timeless............ !!

  • This is really far away from the greatness of the recorded version. Sucks pretty badly. :/

  • Excecelente Post!!! São demais!!!

  • Makes me lol seeing the floppy being put into the synthesizer! Damn 30 and getting older every day! kinda sucks

  • As long as it is New OIrder doing Blue Monday and none of that ORGY SHIT!!!

  • new Order - Live performance of Blue Monday - 1983

  • loving the choice of mic on the vocals

  • lovely song.. that lady is like outsider :o singer is like "let me do this.." hmph.. but anyway, I love this :)

  • Best selling 12" ever..

  • God, I love watching Bernard sing. I love the way he always holds the mic so close to his mouth, and with his eyes closed. He's so mesmerising to watch ! :) I'm the opposite of what I've seen most people say. I love Bernard's voice in live performances much more than the album adjustments. It's so natural and deeper. He's so freakin' adorable to watch ! :)

  • @ButterflyRoseX * lol I could not agree any more. corrected my previous false comment lol

  • @officernikos What was your "previous false statement" ? :)

  • @ButterflyRoseX It was " I could not agree any more" and it was about your comment about Bernard's singing but I made a spelling mistake and I corrected it :)

  • @officernikos Aww, that's cute of you :)

  • best 12 inch ever, played it thousands of times during my youth in the 80's

  • en estudio 54 en barcelona fue realmente divertido aunque tenían prisa para tomar un avión para new york....

siempre world in motion e segunda feira blu!!!!!!!

  • i freggen love this song

  • wow stephen loads up the keyboard with a 5¼-inch floppy disk! lol

  • haha yea, that was funny....i think any instrument/computer technology invented post 1980s should be banned from music....i hate all this autotune crap....new order made amazing music with what they had available

  • @devotion2a yeah man, i just noticed. unbelievable!!!! :D :D :D :D haven't seen any of those a long time now.

  • Don't think anyone younger than 30 has a clue what a 5 1/4 floppy is ... unless you have an origional sleeve of Blue Monday!!

  • @piedrada i'm 27 an still remember those!! and joke about them!! New order rules!

  • 3:27 Bernard looks pretty high :D

  • Is... is it possible to make a new musical game of post punk and synthpop and new wave and those? I mean, could they make a keyboard-shaped controller, and play it? That would be awesome, you could play and sing songs of The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie, PiL, and, even, probably, maybe?, Gorillaz :) they could call Post Band, or something like that :D

  • I h8 those games

  • @Fulmarmusic Really, don't you?

  • Ian Curtis, what would he have sounded like singing on this track? I wonder.

It would have been pretty sweet I think.

  • I wonder, if Ian should have lived longer, or didn't die at all for that matter, would have Joy Division still changed their sound to New Order's style? I mean, they're not much different, but Everyone Everywhere of New Order is totally different of, say, Heart and Soul.

  • @xwexarexbulletsx

i think they mightve moved on to a even more electronic sound then they were experimenting on joy division, but not as much dancy. i read somewhere that barney acted as unoffical musical director, and ian would write the lyrics to whatever barney would write. so i think it wouldve happened. but when its your time to go its your time to go. new order is the best band ever right after the beatles. IMO

  • lol, octodrums, you definitely know it is the 80s.

  • Doesn't really do it justice tbh. Feels too bare. Bit like the TOTP version. Not a song that works live really.

  • very nice sound on this version.

  • where's steve?

  • Hiding at the back bhind Barney & Gillian

  • this band is great good tuens raved to this 2 mounths ago also like human league, karftwerk chemical brothers macro v orbital daft punk

  • 3:26 peter hook prende una stecca... ahhhahahahaahahahah

  • nic lepsie na svete nini jak tato skladba!!!!supeeer

  • Simmons SDS 5. Rare Pads with emblem!

  • toto to je este teraz hot

  • 0:41 Poor Girl ! ! !

Was it really that way before the Spice Girls arrived and introduced their Girlpower ? ? ?

  • It's probably because the other synth is being used for something else on the sequence... or maybe it's broken (Prophet 5 ftw)... but maybe that's because Bernard is the synth geek.... =D

  • I get the feeling Bernard probably had `that idea' (Playing that wooshy synth sound on Gillian's prophet 5) before the gig and wanted to incorporate it. I love all these litttle (but actually quite major) variations that exist within EVERY single live version of Blue Monday.

New Order are one of the few `electronic' acts that hardly ever `sound just like the cd'. It's ace.

But yeah, it does seem a bit pushy on Bernard's part, I like it when Gillian readjusts the volume though!

  • she was probably doing something wrong... regardless of whether she's a girl or not, if you mess up then it's another bandmates duty to fix it, and in this case (probably being one of new order's first television appearances) sumner probably wanted to have a good performance.

  • irony i hope cos all they could contribure is a flake 40 yrs old glamour model pretending shes 25 with no disernable talent

  • This makes no discernible sense.

  • 0:41 Out of the way Gillian- Barney at the controls!

  • This is history!

  • glad they recorded it propley cos this was a shit live gig.out of sinx an shit .GGGRRREEEEEEAAAAAT TUNE THOUGH.

  • i love it :)

  • best pop song ever...

  • @cageehv Pop song? You mean this is Gaga in the 80s?? Fuck you!

  • @MrFrogjab i am sure you are the kind of people that likes to run their mouth and inside doors listens to gaga and bieber, im sure you no older than 20...

  • awesome

  • twat comment

  • Hooky, you are truly amazing!

  • Honestly no different 2 Robert smith frm the Cure???

  • Great Simmons drums SDS 5!

  • This must of been on a TV show other than TOTP

  • Loading the floppies in the EmulatorII, love it stevie

  • you just don't say things like this

    you just don't say them

  • Interesting, Hooky's playing full-sized Simmons pads here rather than the Simmons "suitcase" mini-pads we see in the video of this song taken in the BBC studios in 1984.

  • brilliant!

    Peace,

    Rolf

  • Best so far. wtf, the tuning is fine!

  • Tuning, what tuning? it was acceptable in the eighties!

  • HOW. DOES IT FEEL.

  • Saw this at 1st broadcast - awesome - tuning a bit out tho lol

  • Does anyone here remember the name of the Theater in Bloomfield

  • I forgot NJ New Jersey

  • never did get an answer

  • lol...new order were always so shockingly bad live. i remember pissing myself laughing at one of their gigs, and even hooky was laughing.

  • Fuck me Barny does not look old nuff to smoke

Bless the old bastards now.still preferred them then Than after The Electronic era.still

do,Has all proper JD/ORDER HEADS DO!

  • press the TUNE button gillain!

  • Haha! at 3:32 she changes a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk in the keyboard. Gotta love that 80s technology.

  • This live perf is a ton better than the TOTP abomination. Wish we had better access to clips like this as fans, I'd love to play these raw/live versions in the club from time to time.

  • he says 'i thought i heard you squeak' at 4:04 lol

  • Yeah, it sounds like he wanted everybody to notice it because his voice sounds louder at that point.

  • my dad told me that the main keyboarder quit so they had to use the drummer's girlfriend lol. she hasn't got much 2 do lol.

  • Your dad's an idiot. hth.

  • excuse me???? how rude are you?????

  • Gillain joined the band as a keyboardist not long after the start of new order, not because 'the main keyboarder quit' ;D

  • oh ok got my facts wrong then :)

  • No problem, your dads not an idiot though like whoever up there said ^^ :)

  • thank you for understanding!!

  • Great version! Barney doesnt sound too bad for once!

  • Classic!

  • i love this song

  • I love NO's live versions of songs like Blue Monday, Confusion, and other highly electronic soongs ... you are always in for a surprise ...part of the fun of "live performances".

  • what's with the female ? she isn't doing anything

  • Yeah, she's only playing the main melody.

  • no other band at the time like them they had all the best bits from kraftwerk/hi energy talent borrows genius steals

  • i can't believe no1s pointed out that Bernard sings 'Those who came all over me' yet!

  • were you 1 of them?

  • HAHAHA!

    bueno Sir JOVI!!!!

  • hmmm... not the same live... I'll stick to my 12" vynil version... classic 80s

  • how old are they in this?

  • They were all around 26 to 27 years old

  • I haven`t seen this version before but it allways puts a smile on my face to see them do this song Barney changes the lyrics everytime and they all seem like they are having a laugh.

  • En Chile, este mismo tema junto al "Rockit" de Herbie Hancock & DST, sirvieron de música para una COMPETENCIA DE BREAKDANCE EN EL PROGRAMA SABADOS GIGANTES POR 1985.

  • Still one of my favorite bands of all time.

But i was upset with them live. They made no contact with the audience, talked amoungst themselves drinking bottled water with instruments playing on programs without human intervention. Then they played for 50min, walked off without any return for an encore.

  • When did you see them live? They interact with their audience a lot more now, but I kind of like when they were cold bastards; much cooler.

  • I saw this trademark performance around 88. I don't feel being intentionally non-interactive with 1000's of fans was all that cool. 'Cold Bstrds' is good discription though. I doubt i'd pay to see New Order or Electronic if they still perform.

  • love new order, but i wish bernard's lyrics were like ian curtis' back in joy division. if bernard had ian's lyrical skill, joy division wouldnt have had a lead singer that sounded like a depressed robot (no offence to JD fans-i reckon ian's voice was just...morbid but then again that was JD's music)

  • just thought i'd say it was the tube no switch - bu still without doubt the best version

  • gillins synth seems out of tune, sketchy overall sound due to this, nice footage though, still decent.

  • thought i hear you squeek? i think [B]urny is pissed with the synth

  • oooh that osc needs to be tuned

  • I always liked the old live versions of this better than the actual 12". Thank goodness for live recordings! Thanks :)

  • Definitely. The original outings of the show were even better. My favorite is the December 12, 1982 performance at Victoria University in Wellington. Pure gold.

  • The Dogs Nads Love It...

  • in the early 80s, the synths constantly required re-tuning. that's why it sounds quite weird here.

  • Best Drum Machine line ever...

  • Thank you!
