my god ... look at all the time changes!  Not much chance for a conductor to get caught up in reveries with this. I am no conductor, but it appears Mr. Mauffray was excellently prepared and did a wonderful job.

This, in my opinion, is the best piece of music ever written. Bravo!

The last time I enjoyed this piece as much was Salonen with the LA Phil at the Disney concert hall.

I wish I could have been in attendance to enjoy this in it's entirety.

Very good Maestro. I like this piece very much. In the age of 13 (41 years ago) I'v started my posession for classical music because of an excellent music teacher at school (as you can see, my english teacher wasn't very successful). He conducted "Firebird" by Stravinsky with the Nürnberger Symphoniker. For many years I wanted to become a conducter too. But I only became a very musically bookkeeper :-)

The L.A. Philharmonic version was less barbaric to me. The London Philharmonic's version was very barbaric. I mean barbaric in a good way, ;).

i agree that i could have been more barbaric, and i am an admirer of the salonen performance. when i conducted this again in 2008, i was much more brutal with the ending. i'll try to get that performance posted soon.

It's good. Though I prefer the climaxes of the intro to part 1 and augurs as a gradual accelerandos.

Many modern conductors since the post-war generation have a fixed notion of the Rite as a rigid and mechanical work, occluding any chance for nuances or rubato.

I was fortunate to be able to find many performances by Berlin, Vienna, London, Chicago, LA, and many others, and I have to say your work here is wonderful. Bravo!
