@PCDominatorX I'm a huge F1 fan and there's no question that those guys are extremely talented, but these Red Bull Air Race guys are really something else. 11g in some maneuvers and speeds of up to 230 MPH? For some perspective, F1 drivers only experience 5g and that's only under heavy braking, and they downsized the engines from V-10s to V-8s because they thought 230 MPH was too fast.

@TeddyandRoyce he says "up", it's a Russian interjection that suits here to express the counting of an action or drive to act. It comes from the French "allez --- up" that is used eg. in circus.
What an INCREDIBLE machine! In the motorcycle world, we call the ease in which we can roll a bike into a turn 'flickability,' or the ability to quickly 'flick' a bike into a lean and turn. I'm sure it pales in comparison with the ability of that plane to spin!
What is the pilot saying as he is taking turns? My guess is that it's more or less a 'kiai', (pronounced key - eye, a shout emitted as a breathing exercise to maximize power and/or control in martial arts) but am I right? :)
The sound he is most likely very similar to a kiai but the breathing would be so that he can tense his leg mussels because at 10 g's all the blood rushed to your feet (away from your heart/head) and you can lose consciousness
It's a sound that helps the pilot focus and press all his stomach-muscles, thus forcing blood up into the brain. Without which the pilot would go unconscious from lack of oxygen in his brain.
I'ts not quite, but not entirely un-like taking a heavy dump.. ;)
the poles are made of some kind of plasticfoil which is filled with air. He can kind of cut them into pieces with his wingtips, without crashing the plane.
its a breathing technique to help prevent the pilot from blacking out, USAF fighter pilots use something similar, called the "hic" maneuver (sound like hiccups)
That is some fairly aggresive flying there. Only done around 5g myself, and that wasn't for very long. These guys are doing way more, more often and for longer... That deserves respect.
Not that I'm about to discount you, but an F-16 traveling at just under Mach 2 pulls only 9 G's. The pilot has to wear a special jump suit so that she or he doesn't black out due to the rush of blush from the head to the feet. The jet was designed with special computer systems that take over when this happens. Thus, I don't see how a propeller-driven craft making less than 120 degree turns can do such a thing. If you can prove it, it'd be astonishing. Good video anyhow.
I'm not a scientist, but they make more than 120 degree turns. Through Quadro 270°, half cuban eight is a 180° turn. I assume that flying approx. 150 mph (average) through these gates results in 10 g, don't you think?
According to some sources, 10G is pretty common, and I've heard they sometimes hit up to 12G. And there's fairly high negative Gs too. They lift weights with their necks just to be able to build enough muscle to keep their head up. Russian MIG pilots came up with methods of clenching large muscle groups for preventing blackout that don't require special suits.
the first time I flew high G's as a passenger in a sailplane doing aerobatics, I felt myself passing out, things start getting dark, and your field of vision starts to shrink. I immediately clenched my leg muscles and upper body muscles and this keeps the blood from dropping. It is more or less a natural reaction. I knew nothing about withstanding high-G's before this flight. It is an extreme workout. 90 degree banks, in a tight radius, at 200 mph, definitely very high G's.
Passengers tend to get experience G more than the pilot does. Becuase it is the pilot who's flying the airplane, he would be prepared for any manuever he's gonna do. Same pincieple is applied to in a car or in a ship.
I started off doing Aerobatics in gliders, now moving on to powered, but i know what you mean, doing a canopy up humpty is worse when your the passenger :)
Pulling G's as much more to do with the structural design of aircraft than the power plant. Some of you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. As in this video there are many propeller aircraft that are rated to pull more G's than even the F-16.
I am not a scientist, but I am a pilot. I don't go pulling excessive G's in my cessna but I do have some education towards the matter. Don't confuse the speed that a jet produces with the ability to produce G's. They have nothing to do with each other. High G's can be achieved in any acrobatic aircraft at any range of speeds as long as the airframe is made to withhold the pressures and relative wind changes. G's are produce by the "rate" of turn not the speed of the aircraft.
My apologiesAllMuscle1. My comment about having no clue what you're talking about was not meant to be directed at you, it was meant to be directed toward the arrogant people that deny it was 10 Gs.
Your line of thinking is intelligent and within reason, and you sound open-minded on this matter.
AllMuscle1: You have a healthy degree of skepticism, your logic is good, and your knowledge is pretty good.
I can't say for sure how many gees are being pulled in this video, but I can say that 10 G is well within reason , most of these aerobatic race aircraft are designed to handle more than 10 G in this type of race. In this type of race it is not a rare occurrence to exceed 10 G, for a short duration.
The G straining maneuver; is the way to increase a person's tolerance to Gs. Staying conscious for a second or two is usually fairly easy as it takes a little while for the blood drain from the head. It is substantially more difficult and challenging to sustain high Gs for several seconds.
I have some clips of some centrifuge training for Gs. There is an example of a student that shows massive improvement after he blacks out and is given 10 minutes of instruction. It also shows an individual that has an almost superhuman tolerance to G.
So we are supposed to believe that you are an authority just because you allege you were there? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. I question if you were even there, since you have proven you have no credibility. From this video I see no way of being able to prove how many Gs he was pulling. However it is common knowledge among aviation aficionados that 10Gs in a red bull is not uncommon.
