Having Crosby, Stills and Nash singing backup says volumes about the respect that must exist between these musicians, and that Jackson Browne has certainly "made it"!!
You just can't get any better than this!! Jackson Browne and CSN...OMG!! Brings back a flood of memories. I've seen both, Including CSN&Y during my long time love affair with music, and they just don't make them like they used to.....Long Live R&R <3
Hearing Jackson singing this song with the way it captures the heartbreak of the broken promise of one whose dreams have been allowed to be crushed, gives me the chills. It is an amazing insight into the illusion of American culture at times, and its affect on the human spirit. I don't believe anyone writes with the insight and depth about the human experience that Jackson does. What a gift. May he continue indefinitely.
Wow, I honestly believe this is the way music should be - full of soul, sung by artists with soul and grace + with a true connection to the human spirit.
I've heard people say that nobody writes songs like this anymore. That's not true. They do write good, intelligent songs. Problem is, the RECORD COMPANIES won't release them
@airdriver Yes it is true those company's hold a lot of power, but nowadays ppl can load their songs up You Tube, and there are so many small record company's that will give an unknown composer a chance, so there are realy opportunity's to show themselves.....
@MrWoof86 As Alice Cooper said upon induction into the R&R Hall of Fame: "I hope I never outgrow a Pete Townsend Windmill Chord or a Jeff Beck Lead Guitar"
I was lucky enough to interview Jackson Browne after his Kuranda Amphitheatre concert in Cairns six years ago; I've never met a more polite, laid back and personable musician. He is an absolute gentleman.
I've seen him perform this song many times over the years & have heard it countless times on the radio ('back in the day') & on CD, but never grow tired of hearing it again!
thank you for posting this..i truly love JB..his lyrics are autobiographical, and so meaningful. he's also easy on the eyes. he was always my musical favorite!!!!!
What can you say about four of the world's best singer/songriters callaborating on one of the all-time great songs? Just one thing, I guess; Perfection!
These guys pull this one off like they'd been rehearsing the tune together for six months or more. Says a lot about the musicianship of all involved. Great job.
Gosh, this brings back so many memories from back in the day. I love Jackson Browne's music. He's a great singer/songwriter...this was a GREAT performance. He's like a fine wine ........ !!!!!!
RU frikken kidding me? Graham Nash and David Crosby singing backup with Steven Stills on guitar? Playing the Pretender? OMFG!!!! This totally rocks my world! I wish I would have been there front row center! Say a friken prayer to the pretender! Oh ya, forever in my heart! Jackson Browne bless your heart. Wow, i had to watch this twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for uploading this. I've sent it to my mid-twenties children, so they can listen to it the first Monday morning of 2011..... Great song, great version.
let;'s just admire them all for their musical ability. what they do/did in their own personal lives isn't our business, especially because almost every rumor about everything isn't true or simply springs from jealousy that other musicians aren't as good.
i don't think any real musician can call themselves such a thing if they can't appreciate someone as awesome as Jackson Browne. even though most of his hits were written in the 70's...the lyrics still ring true today 30-40 yrs later. truly a timeless musician...and one of the last true artists
@twistedviewlabs I've been a Jackson Browne fan for 30+ years. Yes, he wrote powerful songs in the 70's, but the best thing about him is his complete body of work. "Sky Blue and Black" moves me as much as "For a Dancer".
For all of you kids, who can't get over Jackson & CS&N together, go back & listen to Doctor My Eyes (his 1st hit from '72) Crosby & Nash were the harmony vocals!
What more could U ask for... J.B. ,C,s,n..... Perfect! Maybe could ask for neil. That would be nice but not complaining. I saw JB aug of 2009 .Again, perfect! Glad he shaved off that beard! LOL
I'm in awe. A fabulous rendition. To my eyes, it seemed as if the grey haired gents (yeah, I know who they are:) truly loved singing this and took it as an honor to be a part of it. Just fabulous.
the good thing about looking liek woody allen is that he still basically looks the same..but its nice to see that mr cute jackson browne now looks like an old man....fuck him..he beat women so he pays by having his face and career get old
@StraightTwoDVD I read on-line that it was not true. That JB called the police and DH even said that he did not beat her. I think that it may be true, but i'm leaning towards gossip and false tales, just like Johnny Cash being in prison in his past. That is not true either.
For everyone who has enjoyed this, I hope you have seen the youtube video of Lives in the Balance with JB and CN, It has great backup band also the beautiful picking of the great David Lindley. If you haven't caught it yet...check it out
