We had these flowers in our backyard. They're called Tiger Lillies. They would bloom for one day only, then close up and the flower part would die. Even as a child when I saw this clip and the part where the person said "....and it will open up again sometime" I'd yell out "NO IT WON'T!" Do I know flowers or what?
Not to be overly deconstructive (which, actually, I guess I am being, sorry), but isn't that flower some type of daylily [Hemerocallis]? Just sayin', 'cause each daylily flower typically only blooms for a single day, somewhat unique in that they don't "open again sometime." Can anybody confirm what kind of flower that is? (It's still a cool timelapse anyway!)
I interpret "and it will open up again sometime" as a poetic statement- that it may decompose and be fodder for another flower and/or its seeds will grow into other versions of itself... but I may be reading too much into it!
Very interesting! Time lapse is a great invention! I forget that flowers "sleep" in their own way by closing and then opening later, until I see these clips! :-)

I have the times lapse of the flowers growing. They're the same flowers and the same music is playing. There's no talking, though.
And wth- call me ignorant, but I've never seen a closed flower. They just die I thought. Maybe it's that type of flower?

Some flowers close their blossoms at night to conserve energy. It's a fact!

Does anyone know if the crying flower (old school...set to beautiful classical guitar music) video was taken down? I can't find it anywhere...

It's here still, just do a search for "Sesame Street - Sad flower film". It's posted by the same fellow who posted the video here...

This is a Joe Raposo piece.
If there is another time lapse film like this I would like to see it.

Hoopersghost has another time lapse ss film, called "Seeds Sprouting". That 1 seems to use the same music as this, but a different part of the song!

Heh, I've had those in the backyard for years, but hardly ever bother wanting to sit there for hours on end just to see that!

I was trying to see if it was going backwards when it closed, then I could say "Just run it forwards again."
