Thats genius. I'm assuming the things moving up and down (simulated breathing) are creating a difference in pressure sufficient enough to force air into the robot's storage tanks, and thus power its pneumatic parts for movement. cooool
any one else noticed the robot was making an angry face when it grabbed the apple ?...last thing i think those guys want is the robot getting pissed and throwing an apple at them lol
ingenuity wise no but energy wise, it is severely lacking, once our energy bases are secured to smaller more cheaper possibilities then things will be very, very effective.
kinda creepy. so lifelike in its expressions. i see the blinking reflex has greatly improved. imagine if it had synthetic skin covering its surface...
The disgust response needs work - looks more like curiosity - disgust generally has non-symmetrical eyebrow pattern.
Technology climbs on this - what I'd like to see is the best of all worlds brought together. Actroid DER2's looks, QRIO's absolutely beautiful movement, and the newest facial manipulation hardware and software mixed with cutting edge AI. It's hard if not impossible for one company or research agency to do all of them together. Hopefully they'll begin to cooperate more!
thats what i was thinking to, sounds like you know alot alot more than i do, but ive seen a video where the face was realistic, and this one has responces, and then you have ai, got to love the robo dog one, and ive seen a somewhat snake kind of one too
when he played the maracas.. that was wierd.. he actually wanted to hear the sound upclose, then he smiled when he heard the sound.. thats a crazy leap in science.. but a wicked wierd idea..
WOW - I read all the Isaac Asimov robot novels 16 years ago, and now they've created this humanoid robot...it really is the beginning of something truly amazing - get ready, people!
wierd stuff. we all know its not possible to have human like emotions but with enough information stored in the robot and the capibility of the robot to apply that information robots can be very very human like. This video is like a child being born and experiencing new and basic things. Its scary in a way.
emotion is a matter of connections between brain cells and brain parts. In the future robots and computers will have evolved so much that robots will have real emotions. But this probably will happen in the far future.
It's so sad. I can imagine that in 50 years, there will be laws forbidding robot experiments. If that robot really had feelings and emotions, it would be very degrading to treat it that way.
well, we can't give the robot itself a spirit but if it runs off a crystal, like the quartz crystals that make up home computer processors, then the crystal is alive and has spirit & consciousness. emotions can only be simulated. but there def needs to be an off switch or voice command so they dont end up like irobot :)
Oops, accidentally thumb downed your comment trying to reply... (Sorry.)
What do you mean crystals are alive? If anything an artificial neural network is much more conscious than a hunk of self-arranging silicon molecules.
And if we ever did create something with self awareness (the idea of a soul being ridiculous and untestable) then how moral is it to give it an off switch? Any sentient being has the right to continue being, right?
i mean that rocks are as alive as we are. they do not think (obviously), but they feel, just like animals, plants, & all the earth elements really. the AI is programmed to respond as it *should* feel but as of now doesnt have actual feelings of its own. the thought of an off switch would be to prevent a machine (with strength beyond a human) capable of getting angry from being able to destroy things and kill, as shown in irobot, which is certainly possible when robots get advanced enough to make
...their own judgements beyond what they were intentionally programmed for. well, at the point of irobot intelligence they could prob learn how to disable an off command/switch so that wouldnt really help :) if you think the soul/spirit is ridiculous, then youre also calling Einstein and Max Planck ridiculous also b/c they understood very well the nature of spirit and have many quotes regarding such beliefs. after all, what is the basic building block of physical matter?
Well, I don't respect authorities that have no expertise on the topic, and I suspect the quotes you are referring to are the similar type that reflect Einstein's "God". If you or they are referring to an idea of a universal soul at all matter has, then that's an idea that is untestable (please correct me if I am wrong) and far from your assertion that rocks have "feelings".
I am really intrigued, though. Can you give me one example of a test for the soul, and results?
well 1 quote by Planck: "There is no such thing as matter... It is not the visible yet transitory matter that is real, true, and actual, but the invisible, immortal spirit." the views of many ancient cultures, that matter is void/emptiness, & life is like a dream. science doesnt have the tools yet to be able to fully measure & explain our reality b/c out reality transcends physical matter. the way one goes to understand that is thru transcending the self. has science found a smallest particle,
a basic building block of matter? we cant prove emotion either, but it's pretty universally accepted. so not all things need scientific data to be understood by the individual. if all matter is alive, then everything feels. there have been extensive tests on plants and they definitely react on an emotional level. a brain is required to think, but not to feel. sub-atomic particles show a lot of similar traits to humans. the Bose-Einstein condensate shows qualities that are spirit-like.
thru time, science will be able to show a lot of this stuff i'm referring to. 1 test to show existence beyond physical would be to test psychic abilities thru a person(s) who is very open and aware in that way. this would show that things can be known & felt w/out the mind/physical. there are probably hundreds of other ways for different aspects of spirit to be tested, but not many scientists or research funding is targeted toward this.
Thats genius. I'm assuming the things moving up and down (simulated breathing) are creating a difference in pressure sufficient enough to force air into the robot's storage tanks, and thus power its pneumatic parts for movement. cooool
