I think this movie is based on events in the Madman's War how Tub Fwj joined Paj Cai Vwj and his Hmong Nationalists against the warlords supported by the French. After seeing movies like this, some will go back in their heads and wonder, why did we fight with the Americans? They supported the French to re rob back Indochina. The French and warlords who treated Hmong like slaves. XD
@13Hebrew exactly. and we should have joined the north vietnamese who's goal was independence from foreign control just like us. when i learned that more hmong laos supported the independence league and revolution, i was stunned. 35 % hmong fought with colonialism, which we rarely teach our children. And just about all the hmong's in vietnam supported the vietnamese cause. that's five times plus three times more hmong independence leagues than the colonial hmong puppets.
@13Hebrew this movie actually has less to do with that and more to do with nkauj mai's life who is sold to the village leader's son because her father is an opium addict and couldnt pay them back. and the guy pretty much abuses her. i mean, communism and the french presence is there undoubtedly but the story isnt about winning vietnam or indochina. its more love than war.
@13Hebrew My dad told me that they fought the French in Laos once but the French had better weapons so the Hmong lost and the Hmong became slaves to the French.
hey isn't there a remake of this movie in Hmong? I like this one better! I don't like to actors in the remake - a few doesn't know how to act and not good looking also.
@RichelleChang90 i was watching the movie and i was thinking the same thing! i think there was, i mean, im pretty sure there was a hmong remake of this one or the storylines were strikingly similar. are you talking about the movie where the girl uses her hair to wash the husband's feet? lol.
... aww man so many questions pop into my head. ... =/ who made it? where was it played at (Thai Land)? who are the actors??? how much money was spent on it? and where can i see the movie with English sub tittles =]

Ibelieve that the hmong depicted are Moob Sib. this is not a movie promoting communist propaganda. they're vietnamese, of course they're going to make the french look bad.
Phem Txij Nkawm? I've been looking for this movie too and I found out that the movie's English name is "A Wife for Phu", so I think Phu actually refers to the guy's name, "Fwj".
Hey...can you download the whole movie please?
