  • Hey cichlidjack, I have reasearched the subject and there actually is a small window frame of water conditions where they are the same and can coexist.

  • @wizarred Jewels are from rivers in west Africa and need water parameters similar to south/central american cichlids not the hard water of the rift lakes plus they need a high protein diet to thrive where the Malawi cichlds require one with less protein.

  • jewels are from the rivers not the lakes water condition is so different they should not be in there

  • i have mostly mbuna in my 75 but i have a jewel and a hab in there also, no major issues yet. a little chasing out of each others territory but thats about it.

  • lol the music? your fry are high class noble-men hehe.

  • i luv the misic you use lol.. i have also a diffrrent chiclid but sometimes i recognize that the tail of some chiclid are torn,,

  • I have kept jewels for years they are very hardy! And you can treat ick don't just let it take over!!! I put a electric blur Johannii fish in with my jewels and he was bullying everyone. So had to pull him!

  • Jewels are a type of African cichlid.

  • I have my Jewels with malawis too and with tangajikas there are no fights

  • No fights? Or are the Jewels starting to pick out the Africans now? Jewel fish are from Africa by the way. Nice how you have them in there with no fights, I have one jewel fish that I have to keep in a separate 10 gal tank because he is too aggresive.

  • @ThePrezerver

I never saw them fight; It was a big community (35 fish) so the agression are easily distracted.

  • very beutiful fishes

  • awesome peacock and alhi

  • how big your tank is?

  • 75 Gallon. I just upgraded to 125 gallon though.

  • jewel cichlids are african.

  • @Tigerbarb202 no there not

  • @the4blueturtles yes they are. They are classified as river africans. Look it up stupid.

  • @Tigerbarb202 sorry i guessed because of the neon

    prefer lighter critisism next time

  • beautiful awsome dude nice cichlid there r cool i have a blood jewel im tell there r awmazing killers lol

  • Beautiful!!

  • Nice Setup

  • Thanks!!

  • wow really nice ass tank man. How many gallons is that ? And i can see that you have a scieanochromis fryeri. (electric blue hap) Those are bad ass.

  • Thanks for your comment. It's 75 gallon. I have at least 35 lake Malawi. What's interesting is I have deep purple maroon red algae growing around the rock. I'll post video later to update. I got rid of the blood red chichlid and added more hap.

  • oh u got rid of the jewel cichlids. Well, after i watched this video, I fell in love with the jewel cichlids. So i bought me 4 of them. They all died, I guess theyre not as tough as other african cichlids. They got stressed out, and caught ick. It pisses me off, cuz those cichlids are pretty bad ass.

  • I am sorry about your fish! I got rid of the jewel cihlid after talking to an aquarist that jewel cichlid can get sick easily and can make other fish sick get sick too. They are beautiful fish and fun to watch but they are not active swimmer and their stomach looks bloated at times likes the goldfish.

  • Yeah, i think those jewel cichlids are responsible for the ick in my tank. I had 22 fish, and im now down to 13 and counting. Fucking ick is killing my fish at a fast rate.

  • I have some of that deep purple colored algae growing on my rocks in my 55 gallon mbuna tank. any idea what it is?? it looks like the same algae that grows in saltwater tanks!!?

  • I was curious myself and so I went to see a saltwater aquarium with purple algae at a LFS. After seeing it, it is not the same. The purple algae in the saltwater aquarium called coraline algae. It is somewhat purple/pinkish and it's flakey. The one in freshwater is deep maroon/purple. Look here for the update video now with mature maroone/purple coloration. Fry's and red zebra nible on these.

  • how did u get yours so bright what did u feed them??

  • I change the water 25% every week and the fish love it. I just feed them cichlid flakes I buy from Petsmart and blood worms from time to time.

  • i bought a blood jewel cichlid he/she is about a inch just yesterday
