Have you guys seen the Peter David/Rob Liefield spat over at Newsarama, its funny as fuck....well seeing liefield repeatedly humiliated is always funny
I held a burning grudge for David ever since his 5 issue run on "Hulk", where he explained that everthing that happend to Banner/Hulk in Bruce Jones several year run on the title was a fucking DREAM!
hey Jose, this is completely out of left field and has nothing to do with anything, but i was wondering if you had heard the latest Bloc Party cd, Intamacy. If so i'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. I just picked it up, not quite sure how i feel about it yet, but my first impression was one of slight disappointment.
It's pretty different form their other albums. That's kinda how I felt when I first heard it too. BUT it did really grow on me after repeated listenings and now I totally dig it. Give it some time and I think you'll like it too.
If you haven't heard, Bloc Party released a new single a couple weeks ago and you should be able to find it on you tube.
sweet, i'll look for it. I had a feeling that cd would be a bit of a slow burn, i'll have to listen to it at work when i can take them time to appreciate it. I do like the fact that they are experimenting and taking their music in new directions though.
Jose all of your points about CAP REBORN are dead on.....However- the fault of the book is originality. THe story is good but not an original concept since Batman is currently doing the same thing.
GREEN LANTER took 5 issues to come back as well. If it sets up a totaly new revival then i am for it. BUT if after 5 issues Cap is back like nothing ever happened...well then thats bulshit.
CAP REBORN is awsome period. great art & story. BUT i would have prefered Cap not coming back or at least waiting a few more years.
WIth MICHAEL JACKSONs death i am reminded how final death & how precious life is. It seems that comics continualy sends a message to us the Life isnt precious because we can just bring a charactrer back.
all these deaths and resurrections in comics lately shows a definite disrespect for life in my opinion.
I know its all fiction but how about responsability?
i would like to thank you both for not relating this book to fucking Lost. This is probably the only review i've seen so far that hasn't made that comparison. I was disappointed too, but that is too big an insult to hurl at what has been a pretty stellar run so far.
as an cap. america fan I was so disappointed is this book. after 600 (wich was pretty rough) I strongly hoped that Brubaker was making a killer with this book. unfortunately he didn't
I'm giving brubaker another shot maybe 2 but damn after such a great run we get this?
It's hard to keep the faith with comics these days because it costs so damn much to buy them. You don't wanna keep spending your money on titles that just end up being a let down. Even the Flash Rebirth #1 was a yawn. I hope it does get better, I like Capt. America and I hope the seriesdoes get better for the sake of the character and the fans.
how do you think 1950s cap fits into all this? brubacker must have brought him back from the dead and put him in cap 600 for a reason.
is he going to be the host body for steve? caps body is a wasted corpse right? or maybe the red skull? he needs a body. but you have the problem of him being nuts due to super soldier formula but no vita rays thing.
cap related rikki barnes gets a good re intro in cap 600 and when is her mini series going to come out? they don't even have a penciller on the book yet. so whats your guessitimate on an ETA a year? a year and half? seems like long time to wait for story that should be happening "right now" in the marvel u
I personally think the editors have just got Brubaker with this one. I doubt he wanted to bring Steve back. The main thing I'm worried about is where Bucky's place will be at the end of this series, hopefully they don't just kick him out. I'm glad that Ed Brubaker is the person to bring him back though.
i kind of thought buck was going to some sort sacrifice himself thing with cosmic cube thing to bring cap back and restore the old status quo of only bucky stays dead kind of
wow, you disliked it for all of the reasons i liked it!
what you call needless decompression i (in this case) call good pacing and accessibility; as for seeing cap with the troops it's like seeing the kents in front of baby kal-el's ship - it never gets old! hope you guys stick with the series and keep reviewing it, it'll be interesting to see if you stay frustrated.
brubacker better have good answer to why red skull came up with a convoluted and expensive way not to do what he was trying to do which was kill cap when he had the chance
This is ridiculous... Batman and Cap both stuck in time, so both could be replaced by moody sidekicks. "Lost" was doing a "we're stuck in time" story all last season, and Desmond was stuck travelling in his own life the year before that.
"Batman and Robin" did the reboot right (if you ignore "BFTC"), with action from page 1. Not only are the Cap Normandy flashbacks played out, they actually threaten to trivialize the actual deaths of real soldiers who faced death there to save the world.
A lot of reviews I've read have been comparing the Cap lost in time thing to Lost and Slaughter House Five. Apparent;y there are no more original ideas left to explore in Marvel comics.
What l thought was going 2 happen, and later on hoped that would happen is that when Avengers/lnvaders was going on, the lnvaders were going 2 go back 2 their own time, but something goes wrong and somehow Cap gets stuck and can't go back.
l thought that it would have been cool 4 Cap 2 have had 2 be brought up 2 speed again 4 the 1st time(so 2 speak)
Apparently the displacement will happen 2 Toro instead...just in time 4 him 2 find that his name is being used 2 sell lawnmowers.
That's exactly what I thought was going to happen! In one of out first videos I said that at that the end of the Invaders/Avengers mini that Cap would be left behind. It would have made so much sense. But I was obviously wrong. :(
I also have faith in Brubaker to make the story better. I loved the art but I am also getting sick of the Cap America WWII flashbacks cause I see them in almost every Cap America book I read. Overall i thought this issue is ok. It was a little disappointing.
Marvel with this first issue is giving people who have not being reading Captain America comics a chance to get caught up with everyone else who has. Because there are probably a lot of people who are going to use this as their jumping on point, just a thought.
But I look it as this, some people might not be willing to shell out the 5 dollars for 600 and get other stories they might not want. When they just want to see how they are going to bring him back. I mean look at some of the people who have been complaining about the second stories in some books from DC.
People don't see that their is a captain america movie and marvel is all about making the comic easy to understand for people who just saw the movie. It would be confusing to those people who see the film that Rogers is dead and no one would read it.
Well here's my question: do you think Marvel should bring back Steve Rogers so quickly? It seems like Bucky has barely been Cap and the other one is already coming back.
first of all elliot, were was your capt. A shirt? you wore then with reviewing #600!! anywaise i think the problem is and especially with MARVEL right now is that they keep using the same writers!! they keep using bendis, brubaker and fraction expecting them to be filled with unlimited imagination!! give other people a shot! i have this same problem with geoff jonns except with him i feel hes better...but blackest night might change that.
That's a very good point. I think JMS and Joss Whedon have suffered at times from taking on too many projects at once as well. I wonder if economics plays a role -- Brubaker, Bendis, and Fraction (Parker has been getting more work lately, fortunately) may need to do all this work in order to support their families in the way they want to.
I've got the 666th view! Fear me!!!
