"god is like water, he can exist as ice steam and liquid"....yeah and is 0.01 degrees the tripple point of god where he exists as third deity, third human, third spirit thingy?
Just a note to all watching this. Jesus wasn't born on 25th... Catholics proposed the date to match pagan traditions. Here is some food for the though.
I notice that the only thing that religious monotheist people can possibly claim victory over Bill Maher in regards to debate on his views in this movie is when Bill Maher is saying that the analogy that the holy land theme park jesus made of the holy trinity compared to 3 states of water being liquid, solid, and gas is kind of pathetic. Also I like the part when we see Bill Maher in a clip from the movie cannibal women in the avocado jingle of death, and later the Egyptian god Horus sequence.

Unfortunately the claims Bill makes here about similarities between the Jesus story and Horus, Mithra and Krishna are not true. They are actually myths of their own!
Disappointing in an otherwise interesting and enjoyable film.
@AdamBienkov dog shit is dog shit. it pretty much smells the same, no matter if you sniff on poodle's, rottweiler's or any other dog shit. because it's dog shit.
Why do all religious people seem angry, unhappy and unpleasantly right-wing? Obviously because they are.
As for me, I was upset when at 5 years old they told me Santa wasn't true but completely flabbergasted (and fucking livid) when they didn't out 'God' too.
That it's possible to be so blind, deaf and dumb in subservience to something so ridiculously illogical and blood-curdlingly fascist is something that's baffled me all my life.
I recognised way too many people in the Speakers' Corner bit! Maybe cos I went there almost every weekend for almost 4 years lol (And still go about once a month now). I'm not sure if I was there the day this was filmed though :-(
those 4 women at about 6:55 are just the epitome of what a disgusting creature that is still called a human being for some reason looks like. Look at their faces! Look at their grossly out of shape bodies. Look at those teeth and those eyes! These people should be in a zoo somewheres.
(I don't think that should actually happen btw. Just a figure of speech)
The sad thing is if Bill Maher actually put that Zeitgeist bullshit in his video that must mean he believes it and other people do too. Look up anything mentioned here 3:44 - 4:08 and 4:47 - 5:37 and you will know that those comparisons are completely false. Dont go blathering about things you know nothing about.
3:44 - 4:08 and 4:47 - 5:37 is utter bullshit. That was the same tripe they tried to feed us in Zeitgeist. It's okay that we don't believe in the same things, but don't go making up facts to prove your point.
First of Krishna was the 8th child of his parents, so his mother was clearly not a virgin. And words like baptism and messiah are Judaic and Christian words, and don't exist in ancient Egyptian Religion, they had no concept of a "savior"
oh ya, fun fact, JESUS WAS NOT BORN ON DECEMBER 25
@lucas5665 sure you think that, i meen belivers have to do more and more an intellectual sprain to be able to still belive in their loving alpha-male. You should realy change you sources ( bad english= not my language)
@apostatanus Fine if you want to listen to things that can be corrected with a simple google search go ahead. Enjoy your box for all eternity, I'll be sipping cocktails on cloud in the afterlife, cheers!
@lucas5665 On sentencens like that you see how presumptuous most christians are, you think you earn what the bibel sells you for submission? More than the rest of humanity? Why, because you pray? Because you belive? Religion leads to ingroup/ outgroup thinking. What ever: Maybe Google is your problem: You just read what you want to read...
@apostatanus Wow you assume Im Christian, then you go off trying to explain to me why I believe in what I believe, now who is the one being presumptuous? Dont you dare try and deduce me, because you don't know shit about what I believe in and why I believe it. I challenge you to prove from a reliable source that any of those things he says is not complete horseshit and I'll give you credence. For the record I know just as much about the after life as you do, which is nothing.Presumptuous indeed
@lucas5665 Man, check those things by yourself: A tip: Look up in books and not in dodgy documentarys. The possibility of life after death is nearly as small as the possibility, that the world is actually the alimentary canal of a big green monster: Its been proofed ( as much as proofing is possible) that there is no soul flying over us: Personality is a construction of our brain, and brains rot after death. So your not a christian? Congratulations to that, but you actually act like one.
Dodgy documentaries? Like this one? Trust me I have better sources. Nothing that you have said has been "proofed" has been proved. As a theist I am the first to say I don't know what happens after death. But atheists like you (I say "like you" because one of my best friends is an atheist) will say that they know without a doubt exactly what happens after you die, nothing. Although you can't possibly know that. Just like I can`t possibly know with certainty there is life after death.
@lucas5665 How I said yet: English is not my language (Im German) but you seem to understand me. ''Personality is a construction by the brain'' has been proved (I repeat: as much as proving is possible). If you dont want to believe this, ok. When you dont want to believe me, i recommend you books from modern brain researchers. (no, i do really, its interesting) By the way, its also admitted, that a free will does not excist, so religions base is a bit more gone than it already had been. ;-)
@apostatanus I`m quite familiar with the constructs of the brain. Science is not my enemy, I do believe in evolution and what not. I just feel that the universe is much more complicated then we could ever imagine it to be. Religion does not make sense to a lot of people, but I think `sense` is something humans created. I believe that beyond what we already know of the universe is something more spectacular then we could imagine. And a higher being just fits in that for me.
@lucas5665 Alright so we have no problem. It becomes dangerous, when you start giving this feeling a shape, with laws and interests. I mean i believe too, there are things, which does not fit in human brains but since they do not fit there, we dont need to think about them and we can just enjoy our life ( with the knowledge that it'll be the only one) without synthetic rules, just with those, given by nature.
Actually, the water-steam-ice analogy is bull... Father, Son and Holy Spirit being three different incarnations of God would have made at least a modicum of sense, but Trinitarian Christians insist these are three separate PERSONS of God! This shows us how much Mr. Jesus Dude actually knows his own religion. It might seem trivial today, but countless people in the first millenium got KILLED over the exact nature of God and Christ.
Let me just say that while the guy playing Jesus there is saying some really good stuff, he isn't in the right place. Real christians don't go to a cheesy amusement park that claims to be devoted to God. It's their way of justifying spiritual beliefs which they don't really care about. If the people there really gave a damn, there'd be more like the people sitting and crying. There is no way that is it appropriate to clap during a passion play. Or take pictures. That is not christian at all.
Although I think that criticising these beliefs is right, I think that it's wrong that people without an understanding of theology are undertaking the criticism. This is nothing more than entertaining fluff, people shouldn't set any store by it.
lol, i was born catholic, but lost my faith in it, and it wasn't that hard, all it takes is one trip to church. and you look around, at all these people in some sort of trance. Trying to proove how much they love god. but as soon as they leave church. they swear, they don't care about there neighbours, or family or friends. they lie, take drugs. and pretty much do whatever god has told them not to do. And when you ask a catholic. they get all defensive.
@ThazuaBlackarrow Guess what? I got called "Satan's right hand" by one of these dipshits. For what, you may ask? For simply telling him that his favorite pastor was a lying fraud.
@matt17389 And I find it easy to know why. Religion is not enough. We need reason to understand why something is good or bad, not a priest. And some bad things (for a priest) just don't make any sense to people, so they get repressed, mad, sad and they do even worse things.
People say religion saves the world, I say it is destroyed by religion.
@matt17389 I totally agree, I was baptized, and raised a roman catholic, but I started internally questioning it, and the whole monotheistic religion when I was around 15 years of age. I think people can believe what they like but if it affects other people in a negative way, like trying to convert them then I am opposed to it.
i told a christian that jesus was a incarnation of krishna he freaked out he went batshit crazy he said thats a lie that means he does not believe in jesus funny
Where did Maher get that stuff about Krishna from? It's pretty much completely wrong.
(Even though I agree with his general assessment. Christianity is the 1st century equivalent of a UFO doomsday cult - and ripped off more than half of its mythology from the mystery religions that already existed at that time.)
Man Christian Americans are fucking crazy. So are those stupid Canadian Christians in my country. In fact, any Christian, Jew, or Muslim who takes the scripture literally is fucking stupid.
@PossiblyAsian Oh I know it. I live in Toronto and have seen some of their congregations outside of the city. Ironic that they live with soooooooo many other people who have immigrated around the world, who completely contradict the Christian beliefs with their foreign non-sense.
3:58 - "I don't go by that "hear say" I go by the word of God" - what does that even mean?? And why is it suddenly "hear say"? I wouldn't have as much of a problem with these religious types if they could at least attempt a logical argument. But I guess the illogical nature of religion itself kinda makes that impossible.
bill is so crap that he tried to present the bad image of every religion, for exemple there r so many rabbai,s in america and israel but he leave,s behind them and went to a controversial rabbai and a father who is totally ignorant of christianity and then he went to an imam who cant speak english clearly he is not trying to present the truth but he is trying to say that what he blive is right shame on u bill
@peacemaker571 i noticed that too... hes not really making a documentary where diferent points of view are exposed and argue about it.. he just asks questions and ridiculize ignorant people.. thats as low as presenting religion as a science... hes arguments are just less dumb.. not meaning they are true.. i do think religions are a problem in the modern world but this film ( A VERY VERY FUNNY FILM) its not exposing that problem neither giving a posible solution to it
@peacemaker571 maybe if the guy who makes the film was a theologist or an erudite of any kind instead of a comendian.. ah well i still laughed alot..specially when i noticed the two vatican priests (the astronomer and the bold guy in the vatican) where the most intelectual guys on the film
@peacemaker571 The father who is totally ignorant of christianity happens to be the Pope's official latinist, a senior Vatican scholar and an important figure in the Vatican. I think nobody else would have got away with saying the truth on video.
Talking to a religious person is like talking to a person with dementia. They'll just find a way around logic and facts. "He has higher ways than us". Oh, really?
its to bad they cut the david icke clip out ... that man finds relevent truths and implants lies wthin them so it can be oxy moron edible ..when we choose not to think for ourselves and ignore our own in the moment experience and choose to boycott the field of our own mind for others and fairy tails simply means your to afraid to be in a "relationship" with nature and the reality of the universe. enough said cheers thanks for the upload buddy peace from canada
i believe jesus is real, but in stead being the son of god, he was a lunatic. thought he was the son of god, going around spreading propaganda and crazy stuff. then got his ass hung on the cross .
Why do Christians have the shittiest songs in history - really bad showtunes with even worse lyrics? It's true - the Devil does have the best songs.....!
@BelfastAtheist lol... I think that if the genesis stories were told to us today as a "new" religion it would sound as crazy as sicentology does... you get a 80 trillion years confederacy on one hand, and a 6,000-year-old built-in-6-days Earth on the other. They are both on each extreme of stupidity :p
K I like this movie a lot and love Bill Maher in general for the unconventional, extraordinary and creative way in which he combines humor and intellect.
But bill, as a Hindu and an agnostic anti-theistic Hindu at that as well as an adherent of the Carvaka/Lokyata school of thought ( wiki it if u haven't heard of it ), I can tell you Krishna was NOT born of a virgin. He was born to the Royal Family of Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva and later adopted by Yashoda, who WAS a virgin.
This type of this was very common in ancient religions to try to turn people back to their old faith.
Unfortunately Christianity has gotten caught up in this before too. An example of this is Christmas on Dec 25th. Nowhere in the Bible does it say Jesus was born on Dec 25th. For the first 300 years of Christianity we did not celibate Christmas at all! When can thank Emperor Theodosius for this in the 390's.
The answer to 4:51 - 5:30 is this, what Bill took to be from 1280 BC was actually written down in 250 AD.
What is true is that Horus was the god of the sky, the sun and the moon and the stars. He died every fall, and was resurrected every spring. This followed the cycles of the seasons.
When Christianity became a dominate faith in Egypt by 250 AD the myth of Horus was REWRITTEN to include virgin birth, miracles, healing the sick, 12 disciples, casting out demons, crucification, etc...
If I don't believe in your religion that you laid down for me, could you really blame me?
Your rule book contradicts itself countless times and was written by man - not you.
Many followers of your religion appear to have no idea what they're doing, in fact, your religion is so confusing that there have been made plenty of different convenient interpretations of it that have separated into their own forms of religion.

@matt17389 I totally agree, I was baptized, and raised a roman catholic, but I started internally questioning it, and the whole monotheistic religion when I was around 15 years of age. I think people can believe what they like but if it affects other people in a negative way, like trying to convert them then I am opposed to it.

i told a christian that jesus was a incarnation of krishna he freaked out he went batshit crazy he said thats a lie that means he does not believe in jesus funny
loosifur 1 year ago
Where did Maher get that stuff about Krishna from? It's pretty much completely wrong.
(Even though I agree with his general assessment. Christianity is the 1st century equivalent of a UFO doomsday cult - and ripped off more than half of its mythology from the mystery religions that already existed at that time.)
JassuElla 1 year ago
@JassuElla
Exactly. Krishna was a cowherd boy and a prince, certainly not a carpenter

But I guess the illogical nature of religion itself kinda makes that impossible.

bill is so crap that he tried to present the bad image of every religion, for exemple there r so many rabbai,s in america and israel but he leave,s behind them and went to a controversial rabbai and a father who is totally ignorant of christianity and then he went to an imam who cant speak english clearly he is not trying to present the truth but he is trying to say that what he blive is right shame on u bill
peacemaker571 1 year ago
@peacemaker571 i noticed that too... hes not really making a documentary where diferent points of view are exposed and argue about it.. he just asks questions and ridiculize ignorant people.. thats as low as presenting religion as a science... hes arguments are just less dumb.. not meaning they are true.. i do think religions are a problem in the modern world but this film ( A VERY VERY FUNNY FILM) its not exposing that problem neither giving a posible solution to it
simpleman6942 1 year ago
@peacemaker571 maybe if the guy who makes the film was a theologist or an erudite of any kind instead of a comendian.. ah well i still laughed alot..specially when i noticed the two vatican priests (the astronomer and the bold guy in the vatican) where the most intelectual guys on the film
simpleman6942 1 year ago 3
@peacemaker571 The father who is totally ignorant of christianity happens to be the Pope's official latinist, a senior Vatican scholar and an important figure in the Vatican. I think nobody else would have got away with saying the truth on video.

He was born to the Royal Family of Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva and later adopted by Yashoda, who WAS a virgin.

pandegopatusco 1 year ago

Dear God,
If I don't believe in your religion that you laid down for me, could you really blame me?
Your rule book contradicts itself countless times and was written by man - not you.
Many followers of your religion appear to have no idea what they're doing, in fact, your religion is so confusing that there have been made plenty of different convenient interpretations of it that have separated into their own forms of religion.
