The Millenium Falcon had such an advanced hyperdrive (.5 past lightspeed) and nav computer that it was able to fly close to the black hole known as "The Maw" thus cutting the distance (parsecs) to Kessel. Other ships had to totally avoid this route or they would be pulled in.
