  • Reminds me of my first trip, got lost in my own backyard LOL :D

  • lol wut?

  • hahahahaha this is not hi first trip, before saying things learn story! this video was recorded by an his friend after syd asked him to do it. he bring him on the Gog Magon Hills at cambridge and ask to record, after Syd begin to do this. at the end he asked if his friend recorded all and says "okay now we have a document of my madness" he will have his first LSD trip 2 years later

  • you took the words right out of my mouth bwc3821.his first trip was around London somewhere around 1963-64...i think...

  • mushrooms and pure lsd (good luck finding it tho) are alright when used correctly and of course not on a regular basis, i personally only trip maybe one a year at most. always a eye opening experience tho to put it lightly.

  • He was on mushrooms, although this was not his first trip.

  • Everyone should do shrooms at least once.

  • He's on shrooms. You can tell by the fact that he has them on his face. Weird huh?

  • Bad stuff don't do it you'll regret it. Syd is a good advertisement of why not to do it.

  • I think heavy drugs, legal or illegal, are gateways to demonic possession. Something took this guy over. Its eerie and sad watching this.

  • Most people do it because they think it will make them happy or feel better or because their friends are doing it (i.e peer pressure, trying to fit in).

Also even prescription drugs can have harmful effects, remember Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, etc.

  • @HCShannon The people shouldn't do it for peer pressure or feeling happy or better. For tripping is about self discovery, more than feeling "happy" or feeling any "better". You'll pry open the doors of perception. Hence why the coined term psychedelic (delic = manifest, psyche = mind) mind manifestation. I've walked through my cornerstones of chemicals, I've found myself some well deserved inner peace. And as to the harmful effects, there are quite a many, but the risk and taker.

  • @clearflower

I think it is you who is possessed...

  • 1:55 ... haha ...that's great ....

  • I got the chance to visit abbey road studios once and the first thing I did was stand in that same spot 7:30 and jump up and down, in honor of this film (: ... it was so fucking surreal.

  • @MasterJuancho ....@MasterJuancho...... haha that must have been so cooolll !!! ....=) ... I'd like to do that too....

  • 60 people don't know THE LEGEND.

  • i thought he was gonna pee on cars at 6:56

  • A very well done vid.has a sense of calm about it,feels natural and soothing.good to see Roger having fun.I was born in 1967,so I got my love of Syd from my dads music. This helps me to see my favorite musician in a way I was too young to appreciate. The vital, energetic, young Roger, unscarred, and young enough to still find wonder in the world, makes me happy.

  • @3lullabies I'm totally confused... are you refering to the same person? You used both his names several times to confuse me!

  • This wasn't his first trip.

    He was on Mushrooms.

Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon, who was a friend of Syds filmed this.

    Again....It wasn't his first trip

  • @lafleurR1ddl3 First trip on shrooms, from what I understand. But not his first psychedelic trip, because he'd done acid before.

  • 0:15 lol at the feeling hands thing, I do that while tripping, feels so nice

  • Syd Barrett, to mistrz nad mistrze a płyta "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn",to majstersztyk, jest jedną z najlepszych płyt w historii muzyki rockowej.Geniusz.

  • music sounds like burzum a bit

  • it's hard to believe that this was really his "first" trip...

  • 4:30 HOT BABE!!!

  • According to a biography of the band, this wasn't the first trip, but was titled that way.

  • Can someone tell me the name of this beautiful song? Im almost speechless from the beauty of this video...

  • @Gabadenis The name of the song is under the video, the song is called "Coral" by a band named Dilate.

  • To fall in hell or to soar angelic, you'll need a pinch of psychedelic. love ya syd

  • @digitalHEX666 DESTROY

  • @digitalHEX666 ...FINALLY!!!!! It's been years since I started thinking exactly the same thing...!!! All of them eliminated, driven mad, murdered. And, apart from these three cases, most of the big troubled rock stars' deaths have actually been MURDERS....

  • Instruction Tribute ;

    1.)Turn of the light

2.) Play Shine on you crazy diamond part 1

3.) W8 till the music goes into 11:00

    4.)Play this video and enjoy. -_- Y

  • The best part 2:28-2:35.

  • was he saying "fuck it" at 1:57

  • @canabinoid3 LOL it does look like that

  • @canabinoid3 Yep.He said"fuck it what the fuck".Cheers

  • @canabinoid3 I have always thought so

  • a minor dose surely

  • you are very nice. thanks for this great video, i love it.

  • i saw this in a documentary about pink floyd

  • This isn't really Syd Barret's first trip. This is just a bunch of kids that decided to make a little video and Syd just happened to be chosen as the main focus.

At best, Syd is pretending to be under the influence of LSD - but it's a set up!

  • @NirvanaWarhols Syd is actually tripping in the video. I can't remember if it's acid or shrooms, but I definitely remember finding the site of the guy who actually filmed it. He was selling DVD's of it, and I think that's how the footage got circulated. I can't remember the guy's name, but the site was legit and real.

  • @TheOneartist @TheOneartist Andrew Rawlinson is one of the guys in this film and is dismissive of the film's importance. And it's definetly not his first trip.

  • @TheOneartist @TheOneartist Andrew Rawlinson is one of the guys in this film and is dismissive of the film's importance.

Quoting David Gale "That so-called Syd's first trip was just a load of bollocks. It wasn't his first trip. And I'm not even sure he is tripping. It was merely that Nigel was very interested in Super-8 movie-making in the hippie manner, pulling the "stop frame" button and then splicing it together. It was just made up on the hoof really - just larking around..."

  • @NirvanaWarhols Gordon Films UK is the company. Looked it up. It's on gordonfilms.tv Nigel Gordon filmed it and claims it was his first mushroom trip. I'm aware that Syd's first acid trip was at a friend's psychedelic garden party, where he thoughts the fruits were planets.

I think it's completely possible, and the ones that were dismissing it probably weren't aware Syd was on something or that his previous trips had only been on acid.

  • @TheOneartist

They were mushrooms. It's a short film by Nigel Gordon. Half of this takes place in Gog Magog Hills. The other half is in 1967 outside of Abbey Road Studios.

  • @Reptilectricful Yep, I found Nigel's site again after posting the comment. It wasn't Syd's first psychedelic trip (he'd taken LSD before), but I believe it was his first mushroom experience.

  • @TheOneartist shrooms ;)

  • @TheOneartist by the looks of it, he was on shrooms because he's very active. i've never tried shrooms, but i have tried acid, and it doesn't tend to make one very active. i was personally scared out of my mind for a few minutes during the trip and the rest of the time, i was laying on my friend's couch staring at his tv screen as he played geometry wars. at least, that's what it did for me.

  • @6789drummerboy Depends on how much you take. If you take a higher dose of shrooms, it can leave you lying down barely able to move because of the intensity of the experience. I had my most intense trip a day ago.

I don't think it's defined by the activeness. I've seen videos and read about people taking acid and being very active. I have a friend who's dropped acid at concerts.

It all depends on dose and how sensitive you are, regardless of acid or shrooms.

  • @TheOneartist It's acid, he just found shrooms there (just regular mushrooms I believe). And this is NOT his first trip, far from first.

David Gilmour actually bought the rights to this vid because he didn't want it to circulate

  • @masteraddavarlden Are you sure? Nigel Gordon's official site (the guy who filmed this) claims it's mushrooms.

I don't think it's bad that this video is circulating. It shows Syd having a good trip. Let's be honest, if it wasn't for Syd taking psychedelics, the Pink Floyd would have stayed a rhythm and blues band.

It's just sad he went WAY over the edge later on. Combine that with the pressures of fame and shady people in his life, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

  • @TheOneartist

I read a biography of the band and they mentioned this video. It said he was on Acid and he was putting regular mushrooms on his eyes. Anyway, later on they found real shrooms in a glen nearby! :)

Although I guess your reference is more accurate. :D

  • @masteraddavarlden It could also be that Nigel Gordon's memory is foggy. haha Yeah, I wish I lived in an area where they naturally grew. I heard England is blessed with many spots. 'Tis the holy manna. :D

  • Well, I shot the film. My name is Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon. We were tripping. It was LSD. The mushrooms happened to grow (fortuitously) in the chalk-pit. And to answer another question: he was saying 'fuck off'. Contact me for more direct info at: nigel@gordonfilms.tv

  • @LESMOIR Wow I'm reading about you right now (Syd Barrett & the dawn of Pink Floyd by Mike Watkinson & Pete Anderson). Really cool you commented.

Do you think that drugs were the main cause of Syd's mental downfall? I'm writing an essay about it ;) .

  • @salhagen Just a short answer would help really much (my teacher would be very impressed if I contacted someone who was actually familiar with Syd).

    Thanks :)

  • good film

  • wasn't it when he was in his mother's belly?

  • I really doubt it is SYD there on the roof

  • @pcpuk2011 yes but he never was diagnosticated with any illness, all he got was eccentric head,I am the same,I understand how he could be like cuse I got the same head,I had lot of problems ,but I also wasnt never diagnosticated, docs said me the same what they said Syd,very unusual mind, but any mentally illness,we are someting between that, when you get odd mind you think differently then others,

  • this video totally put me in a trance

  • LOL at the fuckin comments on here damm get a fuckin grip being spiritual doesnt mean being delusional, and one more piece of advice hallucinogenics arn't all there cracked up to be

  • I muted the video and played Shine on You Crazy Diamond at the same Time.It gives me Goosebumps but I felt sad.=( idk why?

  • @nightmuffin937 i got the same feeling...its beautiful yet with the tinge sadness. syd was and will forever be a beautiful person

  • @oldsoulzeppelingirl yes he was beautiful, and lovely, even he became more introverted, but he was still very polite and ,and lovely, and biggest myth he was recluse it wasnt true, yes he was like with himself, but also he often went in pub, etc,he didnt shun company generally, being introvert doesnt mean being recluse,I am also introvert.

  • does this video has a meaning ?

  • @Avenger4343 i m not finding it but i m enjoying it :D

  • I liked Syd's early childlike music but I don't think it was all down to his trips

  • It's liquid acid hes tripping on dummies!

  • Its weird to think if syd hadnt dont think. Hadnt taken acid , wrote the first pink floyd song we probably would have never seen pink floyd as we know today. songs like shine on you crazy diamond and wish you were here would'nt even exist

  • who????

  • Here are some corrections to an earlier comment on LSD history. Sandoz first synthesised it in 1938 for other uses; but it was accidentally discovered to be Psychedelic. Sixties LSD producer Owsley was actually a chemist not directly associated with Stanford.. Stanford was one of many institutions conducting studies. The CIA covertly funded or accessed many of the studies in the 50s and 60s. For more read LSD history in Wikipedia. Facsinating.

  • @gotehorn Yeah, it was completely legal until i think 1967 or 68 man

  • This video is awesome. The music really goes well with it. Kind of like a haunted time machine.

  • Many know LSD was synthesized by Sandoz lab for the CIA back in the sixties. It was given to a Psychologist named Owsley at Stanford University and handed out in large quantities to study the effects. It wasn't illegal then. Hallucinogens are powerful and not everyone who tries them likes the effects. There is a good article on Syd in Wikipedia. He left some great work, why he checked out early isn't clear.

  • @gotehorn watch the documentary on bbc4 it is now being shown on bbc i player if you want to know what happened to sid and why.never trust wikipedia.its about as reliable as the comments on this site.the doc is called which ones pink.there is also a documentary dvd called the pink floyd and sid barret story and a great book.Crazy Diamond: Syd Barrett and the Dawn of "Pink Floyd": Syd Barrett and the Dawn of "Pink Floyd" by Mike Watkinson and Pete Anderson (17 Aug 2006.

  • @stevevegetable I'm skeptical of all media, period. And yes Wikipedia is not always accurate. But the citations for what is said is usually there to be reviewed. I gotten some great accurate information from Wikipedia before it was available elsewhere. And I've also seen information retracted. With a subject like this it sometimes comes down to what you want to believe. But thanks for the further information.

  • @gotehorn watch that documentry i told you about.it comes from floyd themselves.not random ppl.it is really worth the watch.think youl like it if you like floyd mate.

  • @stevevegetable I think I did see, "Which One's Pink" quite a while back. And I am very much a Pink Floyd fan. I'm not sure that we have a disagreement. My recollection about the doc. though is that again, it is Pink Floyd band members opinion about whether Barret had a psychological problem caused by anything from flashing strobe lights to acid. I think it is somewhat of his own mystery as to why he left. And I care more about his music and art with and after Pink Floyd. Your take on leaving?

  • @stevevegetable Well here's my Public Service for the year. I hope no one marks it as spam. I just spent about 2hrs watching, "Which One's Pink" and interviews with Gilmour and Waters about Syd. I'll stick with my comments about Syd even after watching these. But if you want to see a great channel where you can watch good quality YouTube vid's of the above, type in, "lochiento" at the YouTube search. It should take you to this guys channel. Great stuff.

  • @gotehorn all them clips are from a dvd called the pink floyd and sid barret story and the making of the piper at the gates of dawn. i have them both.i personally think it was the fame thing that he left.he didn't want it.same as many others who have gone the same way.curt cobain mike oldfield to name but two.i think the drugs and psychosis were the product of that.but in the end no one will really ever know.he became recluse uptill the day he died.such a short career with a massive impact.

  • Gog Magog

  • does the camera man has a trip too??

  • thank you, im losing it.

  • he,z still alive, right

  • @orionconflict2007

no hes not alive anymore.he died in 2006.but lives on inour hearts and minds always.shine on sid

  • @stevevegetable Sid died in the 60's or 70's.

  • @bulseye111 um, no. He died in 2006.

  • @bulseye111 no mate he didnt.he died 7th of july 2006.he made a few solo albums with the help of some of the floyd members shortly after leaving floyd but then became a recluse and kept himself to himself.he wasnt seen by floyd until he came into the studio whilst they were recording the wish you were here album which was mainly about him and they hardly recognised him.i studied him and his life for my uni course.there are lots of documentary's and books about him if youd like to know more.

  • @bulseye111 theres a documentary just bn shown on bbcfour about floyd.check it out on bbc iplayer.all your questions will be answered.have fun.

  • i see it as an art film and skip the drug talk, thank you.

  • turn off the lights

    or, close your eyes

or like get a flashlight and swing it around or something

    yeah

  • dude, thumbs up if your listening to John Lennon Describer his first acid trip and watching Syd video at the same fucking time!

  • @thearistacats1 Now I am!

  • there is no way i would take acid. I like the way I act now and I want to stay that way.

  • And what exactly is a joke?

  • Comment removed

  • Sad that hallucinogens, the least addictive and physically harmful drugs are the most heavily criminalized. Meanwhile doctors hand out ultra-addictive opioids like they're candy, psychiatrists experiment on you with potentially life-ruining benzodiazepines, and alcohol (the only drug that has been proven to DISSOLVE YOUR BRAIN) is perfectly legal. Just another thing for which our grandchildren will be ashamed at how backwards we were.

  • barrett didnt knew LSD yet, when this movie was made

  • @Deeplomatic

ye he did.sid and the group of beat poets and artists he hung round with in cambridge were one of the first to get a bottle of acid that was brought into britain from the sandoz labs where kesey and leary were ggetting theres from.

  • syd barrets first trip? a trip is a completely subjective affair. Without knowing what is going on inside syd's head we cannot experience syd's trip. Looking at him from the outside is meaningless. He might as well be on polo mints.

  • @halvaman3 dude, we're just watching him trip out. the title makes sense.

  • @halvaman3

ya when i clicked on this to see syd barrets first trip i'd figured it would show what was going on in his mind, y'know?

  • @ThePhilosopherKing00: Well, that is impossible without an MRI, which didn't exist at the time.

  • @halvaman3

You are absolutely right. The only psychedelic thing in this footage is the footage itself, that is the way it was made.

  • @halvaman3 ur right. crock of shit anyway. reading the book pigs might fly just now and he was dropping shit long b4 this was filmed. total bollocks. still, nice 2 c him tho.

  • @pdorn777 That's rather interesting. I live in Britain you see, but never was one to fancy shroom picking in the wild, albeit I assume it is far more 'trippy' than buying the industrialised lsd.

I might go on to Google University now to check on that, since I live in southern Britain. it might be an interesting hobby.

    Thanks mate!

  • Please: não use drogas!!!

  • @ursamaior16 Porque não? Tem que aproveitar em todas as coisas que a vida oferece.

  • lol running around like a nutter

  • i saw this in like 8th grade, n then i took shrooms when i was like in 9th and i swear this is what shrooms is like haha, always moving around n shit. this video is my life. r.i.p syd! [rock in paradise]

  • im a straight up smoker been toking for almost a year everyday cause its easy to get it here in my counrty... i want to try LSD i dont take any hardcore drugs... only MJ.. but dont know where to get it here sad... i listen to pink floyd when im fuck as hell too

  • i wonder if the thoughts that have gone through my head while i tripped were similar to the thoughts that went through syd barretts head while he tripped

  • fuck drugs

  • @getheroutofthetruck >fuck hard drugs

    fix'd

  • @getheroutofthetruck dont be ridiculous. @getheroutofthetruck lsd isnt a hard drug. lets talk crack and alcohol

  • This is definitely one of the best film footages i have ever seen!! Rest in peace genius, we miss you!

  • Cool music. As a Floyd fan since 1978, thanks for this, Graffiti. Very nice!

  • so...basicaly this is a footage of syd....on trip?

  • Ripsyd

  • Yes, you were odd, but arnt we all, you were mis-judged. RIP Bro'

  • This is some of the best film footage I have ever seen...Syd was one of the most powerful and beautiful beings to walk this planet. We all owe him a piece of our soul,he"reached for the secret too soon"....

  • Drugs are stupid.

  • Im high just watching this vid.

  • 58 people are on meth

  • not sure if anyone realize it but i think this video is were the inspiration for the Wall came from.

  • @davethomas85 the inspiration for The Wall came from a show at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal in 1977

  • why's everyone asking what he's tripping on? haha. he was holding mushrooms in his hand and put them on his face lol

  • colors seemed to be alot more vivid even when i wasnt trippin after taking acid, the world was dull, drugs opened my eyes.

  • I don't understand the video. Can you help me?

  • trip......you will never know..farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

  • Think I,m gonna have mushrooms soup tonight for dinner with a bottle of Absinthe.RIP Roger Barrett.

  • What year did this take place? His hair was still short!

  • @notfragile33 I believe the year is '66

  • @aehedfuq some have reported 65 - but 66 may be correct

  • I appreciate @dubemi making the statement how sad this became. If it was his first, that first reel, he seemed angry even then. Surpressed anger can mess up the head but that's just an observation. I used to do it around that same time and it was a kick but not a way of life even though I thought it was at the time. Who's to say he was a nut anyway, sometimes that logig is of an accurate mind although I doubt it.

  • i don't get it.....

  • At 7:13 there's a "female" figure with long black hair wearing white pantyhose, a miniskirt, and a blue jacket. Is this a real woman or has Arnold Layne become a Pink Floyd groupie?

  • What in the world is with that chick's face at 8:53 ? That kinda freaked me out

  • nobody has any idea how lucky they are to be in the state of mind they are in or of which they exist in... our beings are truly remarkable. When taking any psychedellic you can have a bad or good trip but im just saying- some dont come off of trips very well...and if you have mental disturbances in your family-it is likely you can trigger it off in yourself.. The positive side to having at least one trip in your life- it will change a part of your perception...mere experience ... forever...

  • prelepo

  • Who recorded this??

  • oxycodone gives me the most beautiful and peaceful euphoria.

  • I love tripping. We need to dose the town water supply.

  • takkkkeeee DMT!!!!!!!!

  • @ztj95 its way hard to find

  • @Revolutionary58 acid and i thing it was late teens early 20s

  • pfft who needs drugs to trancend reality.

  • i took a hit around 4 hours ago and just dropped another, lsd isn't a drug, it's a connection. a fuel.

  • Taking acid cannot be judged until you have tried it and taken in the experience in a mature manner with like minded down to earth people who have an excellent appreciation for good music i.e. pink floyd

  • I am supposed to admire this total wack job of a loser?! This burnt out loser should be chasing sprites and leprichons in his LSD trip! When he makes it in the real world as a true leader I will admire him! Get out of the Trippy genre and be a MAN!

  • @teamsterbrian whats real Bro?......." An atom doesn't come into form until a conscious observer looks at it, essentially people create the world " - measurement theory.

  • He looks so cool in this video...nice coat, skinny jeans. I used to look a mess when tripping and always managed to get filthy... I could have been in a sterile environment, but coming down I'd always have dirty hands and face. But Syd looks wonderful. I'm as straight a bloke as they come, but you can only describe Syd as a beautiful young man. He really was that.
