  • i was so disappointed when i got this for my mega drive the snes version was much better

  • Damn i loved that game.. Altered beast, sunset riders and 1943 the battle for midway were my favorite games growing up.

  • Arcade, shame that when I was a kid in the 80's, most Arcade halls are for 18 years old only, and even then it usually have the worst bad eggs who hangs around in there in stereotypical Hollywood fashion. The only time that I ever gone to a "family friendly" arcade was in London Trocadero called "Fun Land" a quite nice place. Probably the first time I ever gone to an arcade as a young teen when Street Fighter 2 came out.

  • I am surprised you never mentioned Wild West CowBoys of MooMesa in the video, which was the sequel to sunset riders through most of development before Konami slapped the cartoon license on top of it.

also, please say mega drive in your videos!!!

  • I...fucking...LOVE...THIS...GAME!!!

  • 11:47 I agree, it's time to let the console wars go. Everyone already know that the SNES is better than the Genesis.

  • Yo roo just thought I would bring it to your attention that you missed a closing bracket on the contra credit :) great video though good time re-wacthing it :)

  • I remember playing this at a local arcade everyday with my cousin when we visited our grandma's lodge during the summer. Those were some awesome times.

  • 1:57, hey cool i live in Fargo...unless

  • 16 bit console wars will finish only when the last fanboy literally dies.

  • My favorite run and gun game is Gunstar Heroes, followed closely by Alien Soldier, Gunstar Super Heroes, Metal Slug 3, and Contra: Hard Corps, in that order.

The arcade version of Sunset Riders is damn good though, especially with 4 players.

  • I forgot this was one of the 'Great Konamis Cabinets' of the early 90's. It gets left out of the X-Men & TMNT discussions more often than not.

  • Nice game

  • You forgot a ")" on one of the (arcade)!!! D:

That pause at the end between what you said and "yeah" was hysterical.

  • Yes, as a matter of fact I do know this game's characters by name.

  • Great epsiode, this game was a blast to play in the arcades, as good as Simpsons or Xmen.

  • "It's more fun to be with a partner than play with yourself."

...Must not say it...come on, maturity, pull through for me...

  • cormano ftw

  • yay Earthbound arcade music :D

  • yeah guys let the NES vs GENISIS war go we have more important wars like the XBOX360 vs PS3 (XBOX360 wins hands down)

  • @tf2fan006 How about the not giving a fuck war because THEY ARE JUST VIDEO GAMES!

  • @sausake15 fine

  • Could you do Ristar? I love that game to death (come on now) Sonic CD reference!

  • "Remember it's better to play with a partner than with yourself....yep."

  • Sorry about the "You will die by my hand" memo, i was feeling a little crazy that day.

By the way, i love this damn game.

  • Both games are fun as hell, but the Snes wins this match up. The Genesis version is only a 4-Meg cart and came out almost a entire year earlier compared (hence no voices, only 2 playable characters, less variety in the stages) to the Snes which is 8-Meg. I love that the Genesis version kept the Indian enemies intact, but I wish there was a stage where you killed enemies riding a horse like in the Snes/Arcade version.

  • Have I already seen this video twice? Yes. Is it still just as good? As they would say in the Old West it's a rootin' tootin' good time! Though less tootin' as I'm trying to lower my gas output. Ya know because of the ozone and such.

  • 00:32 = The Earthbound Onnet Arcade music

  • @deku8989 :)

  • I have the SNES version of this because I'm always up for a good challenge and Sunset Riders is one of the many games that I have that has a real challenge! And FYI, I got my copy at a cheap price of only three dollars and ninety-five cents and I got it at a used video game store. Konami was one of my favorite gaming companies during the NES and SNES era, which is why I have Sunset Riders and 6 other titles they put out on the SNES!

  • Yeah I'm just in a moment of thinking what version choose. In Europe the price difference is bigger and GEN/Mega Drive version is much cheaper. So I will probably go at first with it.

  • Sunset Riders on the Super Nintendo has always been my favourite out of the two and I am just shocked that this game (The arcade version) as not been made a downloadable on xbox live or psn.

  • Roo, you're hilarious, when are you gonna do a geek based stand up video?

  • Sunset Riders is an amazing game on the SNES, yeah. But come on, while the Genesis version is amusing, it's nowhere near as good as the SNES or arcade games. Oh, I don't know if TMNT II is a good comparison, because the levels in the Genesis version are entirely different from the arcade game, while the SNES one mostly copies the arcade levels (some are changed, but it's mostly the same). The level themes and bosses do return though.

The Genesis version is less censored, but still, it's worse.

  • yay earthbound sounds

  • Earthbound arcade sound effects!

  • One of my favorite games, just played it this weekend with the wife. Much better than playing with myself. Great review!

  • :D I love those Earthbound figurines in the background

  • Always enjoyed Sunsetriders. I was ecstatic when it finally came to the SNES. It surprised me how after just one play through, I would thoroughly dominate future attempts at the game.

  • Actually, both versions have digitized voices. When you rescue the girl, she says "Thank you, nice boy!"

  • @LegallyBlindGamer That's true, but all other voices were removed from the Genesis version. It's too bad, but I'd say it's just one of the signs that they weren't trying as hard with that version...

  • You're getting a lot better at these.

  • Great as always =)

  • DO THE FUCKIN TURRICAN SERIES!

  • Always a good review keep them rolling Roo!

  • Unlike zwallop, I love the fact that you dig into things like what genre this game belongs to. A million and one guys (and girls) online talk about games. They play games. They show gameplay. But VERY few really dig into a game to truly explain it, even to the development of the game and history and such like you do. So keep things EXACTLY the same, Roo. Awesome stuff, as always.

  • guess i'm mockable

  • I'm a big fan of your videos, but spending 3.5+ minutes on pseudo-intellectual video-game nit-picking regarding if this particular game fits into such-and-such genre is (imo) counter intuitive. I saw the title of your video and wanted to watch a video about Sunset Riders, yet had to trudge through a bunch of nonsense to get to the meat of the video. As a suggestion, please rename your videos more appropriately or stick to the game at hand. I hope you consider this constructive criticism. Big fan

  • @zwallop By the way, this was a very good review overall. I think I came across more critical than I needed to be in my lat post. Your reviews are always articulate and entertaining and the production values are always top notch.

  • I so enjoy your videos, Roo. Seriously. You are one of my favorite channels.

  • i love this channel u should do more videos

  • Another great video! keep up the great work!

  • Best Game Evaaaaaar !!! (well I prefer the Genesis version...no bad horses stage)

  • Roo you are hillrious

  • ZOMG the version of the theme over your credits is perfect!

  • Am I the only one who heard a power drill near the beginning?

  • "Me ready for pow-wow" oh god i hope he doesn't mean molest.

  • The genesis version looks bad in comparrison.

  • "Remember its more fun to be with a partner, than to play with yourself......yep."

  • Love the review!! Good work

  • i really love your reviews man!!! and again my usually request...please do a review of BREATH OF FIRE 1 or 2 for the snes PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

  • i dont have an issue with you doing so many RPGs i think they were a great genre for 16 bti gems

  • saw the shirt , are you from colorado?

  • do a video on crappy videogam cartoons

megaman mortal kombat strerrt fighter darkstalkers all those shows where so bad and crappy its funny a

    worthy of a video

of i cant forget DOUBE DRAGOn!!!! that show was horrible but the intro music was awesome

LIVe the cod the code the code of the dragon

fight the fight the fight of the dragon ububaobuabouabiu

  • I'll say it for you, Roo, Snes version is bettter.

  • 6 quarters damn it !!! 6

  • if arcades just stuck with every machine being 25 cents they would still be around they started price gouging next it was 2 quarters ok, but thats my limit oh u want 3 quarter KISS MY ASS U PISS ME OFFF then some games wanted 4 QUARTERS WTF that Piss me off even worse Juracisc park / star wars triliogy i m looking at u punk then even some games i saw went as high as 6 QUARTERS for 1 play R U FUCKING KIDDING ME BOWINKLE KISS MY ASS 6 damn quarters for 1 play thats what killd it
  • every time u use a emulator a baby polar bear dies!!!!!

  • get a real cowboy hat >:(

  • I like how there is arcade music from EarthBound and people ask for nothing R.P.G.! lololololol

  • If I remember correctly, the SNES version was censored to match NOA's family politics.

  • great video, great game!

    "burry me with my money"

  • Add POCKY AND ROCKY to 16bit gems fool, or i will cut you!!!

  • When I was a kid this was one of my favs at the arcade

  • You'll die by my hand. xD

    Very nice stuff Roo !

  • Bahah the end was too funny XD

  • 07:43 Pig nose.

  • DUDE! I've been trying FOREVER to remember this game.

  • ready for a pow wow?

  • The music starting at :32 is the music in the Arcade in Earthbound... Yep

  • Roo, have you ever played monster hunter 3rd or aka monster hunter freedom unite? Whats your feedback to it?

  • I think that was the best way you could have ended the video after that line. XD

  • Love your stuff man. Great job!

  • Hey! "There is no reset button."

  • The EarthBound arcade music was a very nice touch.

  • Proto bullet time ftw

  • The Red Dead Redemption of it's time? I think so.

  • "You Will Die By My Hands"

    XDDD

  • RIDE EM COWBOY

  • I'm with you on the shmup stance, talking about those genres reminded me of the power ranger beat em ups, extremely fun. My wild west fix was filled with Wild Guns though as that was the game I had until a "friend" stole it,..

  • Leaving a comment just to prove i was here! Btw great review wish i could play the snes version but i still love the genesis one /o/

  • You know I'm kinda surprised you didn;t mention how the genesis version kept the native americans from the arcade, had some exclusive tracks for its version (quite like hyperstone heist) and kept the animation of the dying rose for when you beat the final boss. But they are pretty observations in an otherwise solid and enjoyable review.

  • @motherplayer

Genny version also had whores in the brothels.

  • was the music during the old arcade footage from Mother 3?

  • Great Video one of my favorites both versions were great imo.

  • always makes me happy when i see you have a new vid up!

  • Wish you posted more of your vids on Youtube. The other video service you use lags super hard for me. It's the same with TGWTG and AVGN videos. I hope you guys adopt the Mega64 methodology and release everything a few weeks later on Youtube after you've posted it on the main site. Love the vids btw. Miles above most classic game reviews.

  • Schmup sounds like an insult, thats my new "you are a moron" term, Who is with me?

  • This must be remade on the 3ds if it works out ot not

  • It's a shame you didn't have a cowboy hat for this review, Roo. You could've made a "I wear a Stetson now. Stetsons are cool" reference. Oh well. I'm gonna have to try this game out. I'm a big fan of the Metal Slug series, so I may enjoy it. :)

  • Wow, video alrady has 175 views and no thums down, nomarly on any game review at the fist hundred or 200 views a few thums down at least and at the begging mainly and since you kinda bashed on the genesis im suprissed

  • lol 00:32 Onett Arcade sound effects from Earthbound :D

  • Nice video, this was also my favorite shooter at the arcades. I always choose Cormano.

  • If Konami ever makes a massive crossover fighting gmae with all its character, I hope they include Cormano, the pink bandito. He looks SO badass!

  • That end joke XD XD was perfect :D

  • Just when I thought my night was over...

  • i like when you get super in depth on things like the times when you get SUPER in depth .. you know what i mean.

  • @NeoX117 You might like Game Theory, look it up he has a channel on youtube.

  • @TheFloodFourm Is his youtube account name MatthewPatrick13? Or is it something else?

  • @Retrogamer712 Yes it is MatthewPatrick13.

  • Tinny? I hate that word. It's so tinny. Now here's a real word: gone. Gooone. That has a real woody sound to it.

  • I love RPGs, I respect you for going over them, Roo. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing some more beat 'em up games. They're simple, yet entertaining. Most licensed games should take a hint from games like this.

  • yes. YES you need to use their names! CORMANO is the MAN!

  • As much as I love the sega genesis, the snes version wins.

  • Sweetness!

  • thumbed up before i watched, why u may ask because its Roo with Clan Of The Gray Wolf

  • I like when you do RPG's you explain it in a not boring way

  • Yes! :D
