@hedgehog246 haha more like stu hamm and steve vai. lol steve fired stu bc he was to good and steve is arrogant as hell. lol billy isn't that great. thats why steve picked him. but now stu is rollin with satriani, who is pretty much better anyway.
@rjohnston96 There would be conflict between Vai and Satriani if that were the case. Also, arrogance comes with genius. It's a matter of controlling it. Steve's pretty excellent at controlling it off the stage. I'd say Vai's almost flipping "high genius" level.
@IMaiden23 dude, this solo is....i dont even know hat to call it.... i guess shapeless is a good word, but seriously ive heard maybe one good solo off of him, and shortly after that stu hamm, aswell as a few other bass players curb stomped the best solo ive ever heard out of him. hes really not very good. im not even hatin, steve vai fired stu hamm because he was to good, and drew attention away from steve and now he has billy. he sucks. im sorry.
@ChrisDempster95 not true at all. ive heard near all of it. he seems to me to write things that show off his 'tallent' and he thinks hes better than satriani :/
@rjohnston96 Mate it's not about who's better,(Petrucci, Vai, or Satch could easily play each other's songs!) It's about the music they write. (Although Petrucci dosen't use the whamy bar as much as Vai or Satch!) Satch mainly writes music that's more groove and rock influenced, Petrucci writes more melodic pieces, and Vai writes a whole variety of different songs! But like I said, all three of them are equal in skill and technical ability!
@ltayl1 ehh...they could play each others songs, your right, but vais doesnt have the creative righting skills of the other two, he writes extreemly arrogant music.
I've opened the link to see Steve Vai, I saw the best guitarist in the whole universe! And he's only warming up in this vid. 'Building the church proves' his unbelievable skills.
a good guitarist plays music and makes you feel good,a great guitarist makes you feel what he is feeling while he is creating it.Steve Vai makes you feel every note. The man makes art as well as music.(bow to Vai).
@SgtZaqq not entirely true... the second guitarist is playing what is known as the "rhythm guitar" part - just playing the basic chords the steve is building his guitar riffs around. although *technically* any rhythm guitar is "unnecessary", they add a level of depth and defnition to any guitar work, and therefore a nice touch (even if, as a bassist, i feel they tend to be misused. but that's another rant for another time.)
@OtherRealmer Well...the way Steve has his JEM's adjusted...yes they can take quite a beating. But the regular JEMS we consumers are able to buy go out of tune when you try to do massive whammy stunts like Steve.
@MetalForceTristan You might be right! The high end JEMS are great guitars though. But Vai's bridges are a bit adjusted...and yes he uses Lo pro's, but with slight adjustements. Don't forget he has a whole team of guitardoctors behind him.
@PhilosopherOnWeed the floyd rose specials are the shitty ones, that was why i brought it up. ive never had any problems with tuning stability with jems, even when doing ridiculous amounts of pitch shifting like steve does.
@abrookes1985 and good for that. youtube is just a place where people think it is... it's a shame. in rock videos: people taunt justin bieber in justin bieber: people taunt well.. justin bieber in death metal: people taunt emo music in emo music: people taunt behemoth in punk: people taunt everything... and in every guitarists videos... people taunt other guitarists. youtube kinda sucks..
Someone commented on the bass player because they would like to kill him? Seriously, I don't think Steve Vai would have a "BAD" musician in his band. Please, all you "REAL" bass players, show us how its done. P.S. Is that Billy Sheehan on the bass? I am not sure, kinda looks like him.
Not bad but if it were up to me I'd kill the bass player (cos he's a tool and he isn't doing anything worthwhile anyway) and then I'd get Beavis off the drums.
This was the show that intoruced me into Vai. I was a 14 year old by then, really a cool thing to discover when you are a young kid. I go to Berklee now, like Vai did ahah. Life.
