I have a tip for u james, every1 dies a lot in this game its not just u. But the more u let the game frustrate u, the harder things get fersure. Hah I kno that from personal experience =P Really though u should play with mitch there or atleast watch his walkthrough, thats wat helped me beat dark souls :D

I think the biggest mistake you're making is that you're not fully exploring each area. I mean, you claimed that there was nothing new to be gained from going up that elevator...the first bell, as well as a separate, totally unexplored area is up that elevator. Don't be so quick to write a place off as being fully explored when it clearly isn't.
