I know its not possible BUT on Jessica's wedding finger... the band she is wearing looks like the one she had when married to Nick Lachey.... not the engagement ring but the band??
How can they gain all that weight but their neck and face still look thin? The brides' mom and aunt look thin until you see them walking but neck and face are thin. That is not that bad, to be big but with a thin neck and face, maybe is like that that they like it. Here in the US when people including me, when people gain just few pounds the FIRST place to show up is in the face; that's ugly.
OMGG, I bet it wud be an amazing experience to get to talk to those women in that tribe, but I wud be hyperventilating more than Jessica about the bugs, especially the spiders.
I think its important to understand that this is a different country with a different culture and values. Everything is not the same as america. Juts like police brutality in north america isn't considered police brutality in most 3rd world countries. Its important to respect and realize that the world is much more diverse than you think it is. My friend is from uganda but grew up in kampala and she has never heard of this. she is from the buganda tribe, totally different
I grew up in Uganda, and am pretty darn sure that that poem was NOT written by that man..It's so out of character, mentioning Rwanda and Congo, and that last line of why do you mess up my mind is so American, the writers of the show probably wrote it themselves and asked the man to read it out loud. And it's a Village wedding, he should be speaking in their local language (the bride couldn't understand English)
@LJaders am from kenya and i must agree with u that poem was written by the americans no black man can say all that especially in his wedding day heheheh u remind me of rwanda cows yer right!!
@LJaders If you watch closely, the guy on the mic is not the one speaking/ reciting the poetry. Someone in the background is narrating in english which i think is for the purpose of this show. But I can tell you that this is my tribe and the lyrics of the poem are very realistic. They do refer to rwwandan cows alot in hima poetry and it is not rare to compare the woman to a cow in the poems. In fact its tha biggest complement. So he definately didnt translate the whole poem but he summed it up.
weird how she has never heard of fat is beautiful does she seriously have no black friends? i think this show is just to look for countries that have a completly different view of beauty without questioning it
@runrockwater EXACTLY! I guess Black Americans & White Americans are completely different! Jessica and her friends can only speak for themselves! All Americans are NOT the same!
"When i first set my eyes on her she reminded me of the beautiful red cows of Rwanda, fat and sleek. When I'm milking my cows in the evening my arms get weak. When I think of her and I'm unable to keep milking. Marunge, why do you mess up my mind?"
i've watched episodes 1-4 and i have to say that i feel that she kinda "poked fun" at their culture in way. There not trying to hair fair skin or be thin, and its against our society's standards. Some of the things she laughed at, shouldn't have been ridiculed
Jessica's kind of dumb, like when she doesn't think about how feeling pressure to be fat is just as uncomfortable in a society with less bountiful food sources as wanting to be thin is when there's high calorie mcDonalds and chocolate in your face 24/7.
And she's like "oh the spritiual connection, giving your life over to someone" about the wedding when this chick was probably traded by her dad for a couple of cows instead of getting choosing her partner.
@nikoincroatia I totally understand what your saying, for me that's just cruelty and exploitation, fattening up cause it's they're beauty pattern or like you're saying, cause it gives an illusion of being healthy and have money to eat when you actually don't, I don't find it healthy whatsoever is just a dissimulated excuse for that illusion, but put yourself on Jessica's place she went there to accept,& understand other cultures not to criticize them publically you see?
@nikoincroatia I mean maybe deep inside she knows that practice is just as wrong as when back in time greeks used to have these place made for throwing up once you'd be full so U could eat more at the banquet parties...she's just not questioning it at least publically cause the concept of the show is about embracing other beauty concepts around the world you see? I'm not trying to defend Jessica's whatsoever I barely know her don't especially like her as an artist, just trying to see it other way
@nikoincroatia also I do think it's exploitation over women once again like in most world cultures, it's plain machismo, once men don't have to fat up also only the women... but still I don't know if she's just dumb didn't figure it all out or if she's just being polite and respectfull of they're culture you see? I didn't use to particulary like Jessica but I must admit this show made me respect her more even tough I'm still not gonna go running buy her albums lol...
@Rosapsico True, she's getting paid to mainly critique western society's standards of beauty, not to go too deep into the patriarchal discrimination underlying all these standards. She'd get labelled a feminist, which would kill her career and get her fired. You can only break so much ground at once.
@nikoincroatia exactly, which's a shame but... her "part" here is to question western beauty as the row model for all beauty, as discriminatory as it is.. sure she don't want to mess around with other culture's habits, like you said adding the fact that she's famous...
@nikoincroatia dont relate everything to your American culture, you dont know if this girls feeling unconfortable, and you dont know if she was "traded for couple cows" either. How arrogant it is to assume everyone is the same as you, and shares your culture. Maybe she loves her husband, and is happy about it, maybe shes also happy about this passage ritual that they have.
@TheRachel33 if you read my comment, the point I'm making is that trying to maintain a high weight when the highest calorie item you have is milk is at least as hard as maintaining a low weight here.
Also, I don't see how this could possibly be comfortable. Gaining so much weight in a short period of time is terrible for your health and painful.
I don't think western standards of beauty are any better, I just think that Jessica is being stupid to assume that this is any easier or nicer.
@TheRachel33 As for the wedding thing, sure, maybe she isn't in an arranged marriage, or maybe she's happy to be in one, but Jessica's assumption is even dumber than mine.
But let's face it, it's probably an arranged marriage.
@nikoincroatia listen, i agree with you completely about your first point on weight. but about marriage you have NO IDEA why that woman is getting married to that man. It could be about ownership, like you suggested, or it could be ANYTHING ELSE. you don't know. why assume that it's sexist and wrong?
@skettojess She's getting paid a bit fat check for it. Not that there's anything wrong with what she's doing, of course. I just think that it's a shame to make such a cool show and then not go that extra mile analyzing each standard of beauty fully.
