  • @tamerswan my dick just crashed :>)

  • The narrator has no emotion in his voice- & yet he is poking thru a memorial crash site. The crash was gross pilot negligence--they didn't reclock their navigational instr.'s nor use required radar as they rerouted from the flatter initial AZ route west to the more mountainous rerouted flight from LV to LA. Had pilots lived they'd be charged w manslaughter. Tragic--but I hope none felt pain & were immediately wisked to a higher plane--including the divine Ms. L--glad she left us a legacy.

  • I wish you could go back up there and do a clearer video since you seem well versed in the Carole Lombard history. Thank you for this though...

  • Lombard was the wife of Clark Gable at the time. It was reported he was inconsoleable upon hearing of the crash and that she was the love of his life.

  • She was truley gifted and beauty

  • You did a really great job with this video. Hollywood would charge money for the things you have shown us for free. :) I'm pretty adventurous and seeing this video makes me want to hike that now and go down there. :) Anyone wanna come with? :D

  • Wow! That was incredible. It's like an outdoor museum of sorts. You would have thought that someone would have taken some of that debris and thrown it out or at least catelogued it for a museum. I like Carole Lombard movies and it saddens me to know that her and her friends died that way.

  • i agree that huge pieces of debris should have been removed decades ago out of respect to all those who died in the crash

  • Wow, I can't believe there's parts still there after all these years. Thanks for the upload.

  • I feel a cosmic connection with Carole---can't explain it--thoughts, dreams of her. At the impact I know she felt no pain and was immediately taken to heaven along with her mother, agent, and the other service people. The Creator needed Carole's sparkle up above. In her short life she left us a wonderful cinema legacy. This video, though interesting, cannot come close to telling us about her wonderful life.

  • was this from 1995?

  • thanks for this. i've always wanted to see where the crash happened. so sad. gable and lombard had the love of a lifetime in a few short years. he was never the same.

  • thanks. Nice job

  • I guess they left the wreckage up there for the same reasons the Titanic wreckage is still underwater.

  • An excellent video from Breton2Robert called: Sensuous, Softly Sultry Carole Lombard

  • Why is thr landing gear and stuff still there? Don't they normally remove that stuff?

  • same as aaliyah

  • excellent suff, man. thank you

  • Excellant video, it connects me even closer to Carole, I was at the Encino "ranch house" which is a sight to see surrounded by these behemoth houses that surround it. It's no wonder Clark only lived to be 59 - he lost bigtime!

  • Very Good video tour of the crash site! While it seems dark to most people why anyone would want to see a crash site-for me its kind of like both rememberance of the victims (the 3 crew) the (15 service men) and (the 3 passingers) and also Aviation history that one can actully see and touch. Google LostFlights and see the great presentation that was put together there. Carole Lombard is buryed at forest Lawn in Glendale, Ca where they are going to place MJ. Thats how I found out about this.

  • Thank you for adding more, great color to my 14 year old video. I was working at the tower site yesterday thinking of the crash and the people.

    Denny

  • Thanks for posting this. Amazing all that debris was left there. Shouldn't this site be off limits though? No one should be allowed in there. Is it still the same today?

  • For Gods sake ...just let her be.

  • what was the plane, a Dakota?

  • are u serious>? never found carole body or something is sad god bless u that gorgeous woman clark never was the same

  • @dutchesschelsy54

The grisly facts are that the search team found dismembered body parts of all the victims and they found that Carole Lombard had been dicapitated upon the plane's impact. Very very sad. She was a terrific actress.

  • And I apologize if I offended anybody with my comment.

  • @UofLCardFan08 Kind of tactless of you to mention this. I do agree she was a terrific actress and human being.

  • the wreckage that you still see there was not needed in the investigation of the crash once the cause had been determined by the CAB(Civil Aeronautics Board). This video was shot in '95 since then a lot of wreckage has been pilfered. There are probably still body parts up there as Lombards hand wasn't recovered. The engine, landing gear are way too heavy to move in that terrain. They'll probably need a helicopter with rope to eventually move them. Much of the plane burned and melted.

  • from what I've read Lombard bitched about being taken off the flight. The pilots occupied with Lombard & the Ferry Pilots probably forgot to enter in the log the coordinates out of Las Vegas which was 218. Instead they were on coordinates out of Boulder Colorado which was 210 and led them straight into the rock. an honest mistake that killed people.TWA at the time didnt have a supervisor on the ground to reaffirm the flight plan with the pilots. That's what I've read.

  • @deepseadirt Don't blame Ms. Lombard. for the crash!--she just raised a 2 mil. for the Army--call it pilot negligence!!!. Your 2nd coor. is NOT right (flying W from Boulder would crash into mts). It was out of Albuq.--flying W--flat--rerouted to LV w/o changing coor.'s. U can't forget things when you're a pilot. There is little room for error. Pass.'s are in your care--I believe pilots take an oath about this. Had they lived, these pilots would have been charged with manslaughter.

  • I am surprized they didn,t bury all the wreckage they couldnt haul away. Did you say the site was completely fenced in? You have to contact someone with keys to get into the fenced area? Where did they haul the wreckage off the crash site to? I read in one book the pilot commited suicide, because he was taken to deviating off course on a regular basis, so they fired him, and hired him back later, due to the shortage of airline pilots for "milk runs".I wonder if his family suplied this info.

  • hard to believe that they let that wreckage remain there in the canyon.... thanks for the video. sad but interesting.

  • @deadnursewalking I was thinking the same thing but I think that more people respect the notion that in a way crash site are their own "burial sites" in a sense and should be treated with respect. you know?

  • Thank you for posting this. I admit my morbid as well my genuine intellectual and historical curiosity drew me here. I'm glad I you let you be my eyes so I don't further disturb the site.

I understand that much of the debris has shifted downslope from the impact point due to rock slides and erosion. Of course, people have moved some things too.

Such sudden death is a blessing for those who must die but living hell for those who remain. I respected Ms. Lombard and Mr. Gable greatly.

  • Why would you want to go and look at a plane wreck?

  • Why would you want to look at the video a wreck?

  • I have no idea.

  • @mymegalodon For the same reason people look for the Titanic.

  • Not just debris, but very large debris. Guess it wouldnt have been too fun getting it out of there now. Nice video, great job.

  • Very interesting. I didn't ever see this.

  • Thank you for this. Hard to believe that the debris is still there. Your footage is from 1995 -- surely the debris is not there today.

  • Cruising speed of TWA DC-3 about 180-200mph. Ouch! Clark Gable was never the same after this loss.

  • whats a prayer going to do?

  • This is incredible.

  • Amazing that there is debris still there after all these years.

  • As long as they got the remains of the passengers off the mountain, I guess no one needs the rest of the plane. ;-(

  • You have a point, Mossmusic.

  • At that time airline companies were not required to clear crash sites in the same way they are today. Given the dry character of the dessert and mountain environment things will last much longer than they would, for example, in the Northeast or Southeast United States.

  • ...You did a very nice job on this.

    Thank you!

  • Amazing that so much stuff is still there. Guess ya can't just walk off the mountain with any of it.

  • So interesting. Always wanted to see this site. RIP Carole and the other victims of such a terrible tragedy.

  • This makes me sooo sad to see this & how parts of the plane are still there! It was such a hard impact it broke the plane in half & then exploded on contact. The people in the front of the plane the cockpit, cabin got it the worst. Poor Carole, her Mom & friend Otto Winkler. And to the the servicemen & crew who lost thier lives that terrible night. Wish I could go there & leave some flowers & say a prayer for them. And whoever stole that plaque, I can't even say it..what comes around goes around

  • Yes, why do they leave this stuff hanging around? Why don't they take it away? I know it's a remote location, but still.... Interesting video, though....

  • Yes, why do they leave this stuff hanging around? Why don't they take it away? I know it's a remote location, but still.... Interesting video, though....

  • Interesting...thanks for posting.

  • There was a plaque but some1 stole it.

  • Some one has stole just about everything.

  • Are you certain? Did you go up there?

  • it's really sad..

But why a clean up was not conducted after the crash ? i dont't understand.....

  • aircraft wrecks in remote areas are left after investigation, at least in those times.. the west is littered with wrecks.. one day they will find Steve Fossett. They retreived as much of the human remains as they could.. Stopbath probably knows of stuff still found.. even bits of bone..

  • Really sad a clean up was not conducted. Carole Lombard was not only a gifted actress but a hero in WW2. A truly great person.

  • This is interesting but i would've thought they would have cleared up the site after the crash and that a plaque or something to say what happened would be better than plane debris. why is it all still there?

  • most of debris has been picked over.. only large peices like you see, part of engine and landing gear.. SHould be respected more as there are still prob bits of human remains (bone fragments) The guy below. Canyonaire knows more than most anyone i would assume. He put the plaque there he said.. RIP Carole and all those killed.

  • Irish89055 I would not call the pilots arrogant. You were not there that night so you really have no idea what they were thinking or considering when they took up that heading to the Burbank Air Terminal. Also those Army pilots were members of the Air Transport Command flying bombers and equipment to the UK. They were very much in the war well before it was officially declared.

  • Later investigations revealed that the pilot, who had been reprimanded several times for not following flight instructions, was taking a shortcut through a restricted area to make up for lost time.

  • I was first at the site in the early 90s. Looks like you approached it the correct way from the upper road. Seems to be always fenced and locked unless you know the "secret password". Great vid.

  • I've been there. There use to a bar nearby that had a chunk of the airplane on display.

  • cocky, arrogant pilots take others with them. A shame, for Carole was a lovely woman and those army pilots never had a chance to get in the war.

  • Very interesting footage. Thanks for posting. One correction..The plane crash was Jan 16th 1942.

  • You are correct. By the time I relized my mistake in the year, so may had viewed I did not want to change. Search " LOMBARD1942 "to see more Mt. Potosi videos of the site.

  • Reminds me of a crash site I know in the high Uintas - crashed into a mountainside in the mid '60s. Hardly anyone knows it's there, but I know the guys who discoverd and reported it.

  • Carol Lombard Rocks!!!

  • Great video, pity abot the repetative...repetative....repetative commentary.....about nothing.

  • It may seem "boring" to anyone relatively unfamiliar with the people who died there. Repetition is natural in this kind of video, and this piece does a very commendable job in a retelling of what happened. One VERY IMPORTANT thing it is important to remember regarding Carole however :One does not think of somebody's DEATH as "Great", you think of their BEING as "Great", and Her BEING was TREMENDOUS!

  • poor carole lombard , she was really a class act in every way , thanks

  • That was great. I never knew that the plane was still up there. Great work, can I suggest a link from Carol Lombard page on Wikipedia?

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please view my clip of some rare 1930's movie star cards, including Carole Lombard, Bette Davis, Clark Gable, Mae West, Will Rogers and many more.

  • Pilot did not reset his gyro compass at Las Vegas. Was at night with no moon. Pilot though he was flying south to Burbank instead he was flying west into the mountains. Most of the debris is gone as treasure hunters have hauled off. Site is a one hour four wheel drive behind a locked gate up a six thousand foot mountain. Then a one hour walk in rough mountain site.

  • couple questions...1.why was the plane flying so low? and 2.why is all that debris still there? isn't someone supposed to clean it up after a plane crash?

  • What other nice movies would her had done if wasn't the terrible airplane crash... RIP Carrole...

  • Cool!
