May be Drake wasn't mortally wounded? We don't know at this point if it's HIS blood on his shirt. Secondly, what if Drake was wounded but not seriously? In that case, maybe he could still climb. There's no point discussing this of course because this is just a computer game - it's meant to be fun and challenging, not necessarily believable (but SSoHPKC brought it up).
