I don't get all these "there's to much text to read" comments.
I was almost 15 when this game was released, and never read anything I wasn't MADE to read (, meaning school).
But after spending untold hours that summer with that game, basically just watching one of my older brothers play, by the time we beat it, I had done a complete 180 and had fun reading from that point onward. My bibliophilism is directly attributable to THIS GAME.
Played and beat Fallout 1. Played and beat Fallout 2. Played and beat Fallout 3.
The story to Fallout 3 was disappointing; I expected better from a company who created entire worlds like Daggerfall. BAK on the other hand was screated and written a lot like a novel, and written BY A NOVEL AUTHOR.
Read a book. Go outside. In fact, I'll recommend the book that STARTED the genre of dystopian post-apoc/large corporation sprawl: Neuromancer. Read it. Great stuff.
Fallout 3 isn't even that good... It's just mindless shooting for idiots. The story line sucked but the game play was really good....but the storyline SUCKED!
This is a very engrossing game and was very advanced for it's time. I still play it on DOSBox once in a while. I'm guessing you probably weren't around back when people still used DOS on 486 and early Pentium machines so you don't have the perspective needed to see that there were games from back then that were every bit as good as the games of today. It takes more than high resolution graphics to make a good game, it takes a good story which this game has.
@DrMacnCheese From you comment I can assume you're a young teenager, who finds gfx>storyline and atmosphere. MortemDesino is obviously an old school player who knows how to appreciate computer games from the 90s. Props to u, bro!
i keep noticing people wondering where their copy went, i would like to make note, this game is FREE it was released as a FREE game when return to krondor came out, just search google, there are LEGIT FREE downloads for this game
Oh boy! The best cRPG ever!!! Do you remember the secret chests with riddle-and-password-based locks? Brilliant. Loved every minute playing this classic.
I still think Gorath looks silly. it might be that he's got normal black/blue hair and then a white mustache that looks like it was borrowed from a mall santa.
It might also be that despite being continually reminded there's no physical difference between eledhel and moredhel i still picture dark elves like they are in Warcraft. When i first read Betrayal at Krondor i pictured Gorath as Illidan without the blindfold.
I played this as a kid, back when I couldn't understand any word in english! It's hilarious thinking back on it. I had no idea about the plot or what my quests were. I basically ended up going to all the places available on the map in every chapter until something happened. I even solved most of the chests! I brute forced any chest that had 6 letters solution or less =)
This game has a special place in my heart, and whenever I hear the music...
I played this game like ages ago! I remember not being very fond of it but seeing this makes me want to play it again. Hmm I whish I could remember where I left it. But the midkemia series where and still are amazing! I have them all and I still read them a lot even though I can probably dream every wordXD Feist is the best writer ever
Gorath will always be a warcraft style dark elf to me. i don't care if the books say elves and dark elves are the same, dark elves should be dark damnit!
I remember me and my best friend spent a whole summer playing this when we were about 12...we got so frustrated by the word-lock chests that we couldn't solve, it killed us both. Good times, one of my fav games by far :)
Back in the day before the modern CRPG revolution was trailblazed by Black Isle & Bioware's Fallout & Baldur's Gate, this game and Ultima VII ruled the roost. Difficult to stress how ahead of the times they were graphically, with sound, "photorealistic" sprites, etc. Conversely, both were nigh impossible to get to run on modern Windows machine until workarounds were developed (Exult and xBak) many years later. What's really timeless, however, is the story, very strong for a computer RPG.
@DesKraven Seeing as how King's Quest is an adventure series (except for the last game), and Betrayal at Krondor is an RPG, how can you claim that one is "better" than the other? They're two completely different genres. I, for one, enjoy both, partly for nostalgia, and partly because, well, they just don't make games like this anymore.

I remember playing this game when I was 13 with a dictionary in my hand.
And now to see native English speakers older than I was at that time for whom THIS is too much to read... yarg.

It took me over 3 months to finish this game. I had pages of notes to keep track of things. Memories!!

yes!! I've had the Betrayal at Krondor music stuck in my head since 1994. This is the first time I've been able to hear the actual thing since then.

well... the game was made before the book..
wasnt the game made from inspiration of Fiest's books.. then he wrote his version to a book after the game came out.. my understanding of it anyway..

My favorite RPG and one of my favorite fantasy novels of all time. Thank goodness for DOS emulators.
Hey, I know this sounds pretty crazy, but, if you could record the whole game into this, that would be so awesome!

This game started all for me. My first PC RPG. Still one of the best RPG ever made; if not the best. Too bad Raymond E. Feist books turned to crap.

Do you even know what you are saying? Feist is one of the best fantasy authors even and his midkemia books are awesome
