  • really cool video. ty for that

  • I have two of these in crossfire

  • Soooo guess those PCIe slots gotta be pretty far apart to crossfire 'em, eh?

  • @Triffgits no they go past the card, another card can fit behind the cooler

  • @Ptro001 Uh huh, and what if said card is the same model with the same cooler?

  • @Triffgits you can flip the cooler around, both sides of the base are exactly the same

  • but..can it play minecraft?

  • Dremel

  • Comment removed

  • looks like one of those model cities

  • 7970!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "its HUUUUUUUUUUGGGGEEEEE"

  • You use alcohol to clean graphics cards?!!?!??!

Clean your stomache, Like me in Soviet Russia

  • lol two of these cards with this heatsink in crossfire :D

  • Also, will this fit in a small case, facing upwards? I have a Scythe BIG Shuriken 2, which is only like 2 inches high, so that defenately won't be in the way...

  • does that vram cooler come with it or is it sold seperately?

  • wtf .. disipador.. !!..

  • alcohol? drunk videocard FTW!

  • a skinny coolermaster hyper 212?

  • you are a great presenter sir, fluid discourse, transmits a passion for the topic, good structure of the info, and well vocalized.

  • and hear i though pentium 4 heatsink and fan combo on my radeon 9600 was big.

  • Can you put the cooler on the other side of the heat sink becouse i want the cooler to push the hot air out of the chasse not in. I have 2x 140mm fans on the side thet push the air out. Can i put a 140mm fan on the the other side and can i put this cooler on my Radeon 6950?

  • make sure you have 6 slots free

  • is it necessary to install vram heatsinks on the back of the video card? the reason i ask is because they werent there before on my 5870, maybe the stock backplate acted as a cooler for them at that time? i know have an accelero xtreme 5870 cooler on the card and it only came with enough vram coolers for the front of the card, its like they didnt intend for it to hurt the back of the card. are the ones they include with the kit supposed to be enough to cool the vram entirely, all alone?

  • @unleasheth

Do you have a 2GB or 1GB card? If 2GB then you need heatsinks on those RAM chips.

  • @pbmdh yes its the 2gb one, i ordered the extra heatsinks, works perfect now. with that said, ive been kinda dissapointed in the performance of my 5870 on newer games that have released in the Q4 of this year, but kinda at the point where im tired of buying hardware, seems Im always a step behind, chances are if I bought a 6 series there would be a 7 series coming out in a few months....prolly already is. I got a new job anyhow and when I get home after training ive been too beat to play anythin

  • @pbmdh much less, even check my mail or surf the web. I was gaming it up like a mofo until a few weeks ago.

  • how the hell can you run crossfire with this thing??

  • @gargbank

Well, the heatsink sticks out enough to where the fan would just be blowing on the cards below (if it was the top mounted card).

Pretty nifty idea IMO, but too damn expensive.

  • gtx550 wins

  • I hope they have coolers like this for the 5970..

  • Did anyone else hear him say 5850 instead of 5870 on the title?

  • @acematin yup you're right =)

  • fuck i put that on my new Droid Bionic last night bolted right on and now my phone is nice and cool

  • how the fuck is that gonna hold in my pc... -_-

  • Well I guess a cooler like that kind of rules out Crossfire. Kind of a deal breaker in my book.

  • yes but will it blend?

  • in 5 years this is gonna fit in my phone

  • @papapapa2010 not really, bacuse of the heat, and if company will underclock it, they could just stuff in there a 9800 GT nvidia...

  • That's crazy but awesome at the same time .

  • it looks tiny compared to at first :0

  • just saying..but in the title of this video it says 5870 but at 2:24 he says 5850

  • Im sorry but i wont ever get this cooler, what if i was to sli with both of these things? or as I have a big cpu cooler?

  • i got this one in my notebook

  • @TemuraJW Yeah right...

  • @angleisthebest

    For real! :D

But there are some drawbacks, also...

    1. You can't close this notebook so its need to be open all the time xD

    2. Its need to be glued to the desk, because fan makes notebook fly, rotfl.

  • @TemuraJW No...you have the 5870M, the mobile version. Mobile laptop one has half the streaming processors and is equivalent to a desktop 5750.

  • @NateN34 someone didn't understand the joke :P

  • @TemuraJW pfft ! i got that on my touch-pad !

  • This wouldn't be an option with my big CPU cooler in the way.

  • You could have 2 of those facing the other way... :O

Thats like a case moddere's daydream

  • wtf is that?

  • Another thing you can use if you don't have Isopropyl Alcohol is use some Arctic Clean 1&2 and a rubber eraser after. I haven't had a memory heatsink fall off yet.

  • That's just silly, it would never fit round my CPU pipes...

  • @Minifig666 It can be turned over.

  • That's a huge bitch.

  • You said 5850.....

  • no more sli... where would i put two of them

  • @q1joe Its an ATI card, they dont have SLI, you idiot!

  • @RozzoFX it was a typo srry man, chill

  • @q1joe k, ima smoke some weed, and chill out. :D

  • @q1joe doesn't cut it

  • @RozzoFX Yea they do, its called Crossfire, Idiot.

  • @ltsmash99 I know that, you fucking cunt, it's just that stupid people call Crossfire SLI all the time, when its different.

  • @RozzoFX still the same thing, idiot.

  • @ltsmash99 Yeah but you start talking shit to me without even knowing what the fuck I was saying, you fucking retard.

  • Yea, this is single slot^^

(Yes, i know what he means XD)

  • To the guys worrying about weight, it comes with support brackets that actually screw into your chassis, in addition you can mount it either way round (only the spitfire, not the other cooler) as per thermalright website.

  • Comment removed

  • pretty much consume's really much space inside my case.. lol

  • @dharkyoh but looks damn good with an led fan.prob is no xfire of these two bad boys.:D

  • @maejanRAKSHI yeah right :D

  • WTF ?

  • it put so much extra weight on graphics card and also it will be trouble for CPU cooler if you are not using an H50 or H70

  • OC RULEZ YEEEEEHAAAAAW

  • does this work for the gtx 470?

  • @Revanchist8525 Nope ... You need an AMD card or three Geforce cards. I belive.

  • Dust magnet, but u got so much money you'll be replacing this thing before that happens.

  • Is there any similar cooler for nVidia ?

  • holy shit

  • nvm i see now the fan connects to the panel and takes place of your current fan or you can install it in the panel by cutting out and makin room for it durrrr lol its been a long day im tired

  • yea if you have a huge case and you just wanna run single gpu this would be great, doesnt look like you can get it any cooler than this 8) a bit over kill though i must say cause the stock coolers on these 5870s are terrific as is. only thing im wondering is how the fuck does the fan not get in the way of the case side panel when you put it back on your tower? im dieing to see this lol. that said, yes it prolly would be in the way of an aftermarkey cpu cooler but oh well just dont get a bit one

  • Hold down plate = retention plate.

  • BIG!!

  • i beleave thats a nice idea.. but fail on the part for if you have a big heat sink on your cpu or... if your trying to crossfire..( do not get this if you have one of the 2 i noted lol)

  • Comment removed

  • what are those types of videocards called?

  • yep that thing is retarted

  • @SCARSAC yes it is "retarTed" ;)

  • oh my god:D it's almost bigger than your head:O:O fu*kn' awesome:D

  • What a TERRIBLE design. It's almost as bad as that weird Zalman cooler! Want to crossfire these cards? Forget it. Have a side panel fan? You can't install this. How much slots will it take up? 5 or 6.

  • Say "BuyBuy" to this card working in 2 months time... Ever heard of Electonic Shock - Latent-Failure ? Where is this guys Anti-Static wrist strap or matt... $550 down the drain...

  • @gurujamiedunne Electronic schocks is not that big of a deal in all areas. In Denmark, during March to October it's enough to ground youself by touching a large metal object (or a plugged in (not ON) PSU) before starting to work with pc hardware.

  • @Terinigan ... say that to the trading-firm whos system went down seconds before completing a multi-million forex-deal.... see if they buy any more $20k+ systems from you....

  • @gurujamiedunne I'd happily do that, cause it will not be a problem, i'm sorry that conditions in other areas are so hard for you to imagine.

  • Dremmel that slot plate to single space.

  • 3:17 HUUUGE lol

  • How much cash you so spend on Computer parts ?

  • your never supost to have the heat pipes pointing down linus heat rises you wontt get effective cooling as it would be all noctua fan sets state this because its a fact

  • @jesserobins "supost"??? wtf dude seriously... and ya i'm pretty sure if they were facing downwards it won't make much difference... hot "AIR" rises... the heat in the metal is not going to rise to the top of the fins you retard...

  • THEY CALL ME SPITFIRE!

  • @jacobmcr858

rather THEY CALL ME B52 BOMBER

  • @Hades2004 Or that . . . this thing is as overkill as who knows what.

  • That doesnt looks very trustworthy

  • stick your computer in the fridge that will keep it cool plus the beers

  • It's a BEAST! I have an ASUS 5850, and I want one of those, it looks amazing, i bet temps would plummet.

  • you could crossfire it. one cooler up and one cooler down.

  • this is 5870 not 5850 lol

there is no 5850 Eyefinity edition only 5870 Eyefinity edition

  • @FantasyX3I was about to say that... good stuff there.

  • @124Z312 ^^ i hv the same card 1gb GDDR5 not the 2gb Eyefinity 6 edition xD

    the card is pretty good

  • @FantasyX3I my friend got it, i got a Gigabyte GTX 460 with the omni.

  • it says 5870 on vid and he says 5850 in the vid

  • I can't every seeing anyone put this in Crossfire X

  • you could just dremel the PCI bracket in half to make it single slot.

  • @Tangylives But this will void the warranty of the GPU.

  • @honam1021 you've already voided it by fitting a custom cooler.

  • @Tangylives But I can't see any tamper evident seals.

  • @honam1021 Depends on the manufacturer. EVGA, ASUS and XFX allow you to change coolers. Others don't.

  • looks nice :O

  • 0:26 5850

  • ...that single slot bracket wouldn't work.

1 of the DVI ports is shared with the cooler output port.

  • @TheGeek1028 I don't see a DVI connector

  • @stereoprologic I meant on the non-EF6 version.

  • HTAT THING IS NOT SINGLE SLOT

IT TAKES UP MY CPU COOLER SLOT

  • @jetsamjetsam HE SAID!!! that u can face the cooler downward instead of this way so STFU! Did u rly think that they made a big ass vga cooler and thought u used a original cpu cooler?

  • Oops... he said that around 2:20...

  • Can you install this with the heatsink going the other way? There's not enough space in my case that direction...

  • Is it compatible with a 5770?

  • so you can actually sli/crossfire with this cooler? if you choose to have the fans facing downwards?

  • I might be getting 2 of these in my case...I peed myself thinking of it.

  • @mit871chell If you are going to spend money altering stock cooling on a video card, you might as well go liquid cooling. The performance is just nuts. You can just do your video card(s), or you can loop in your cpu and whatever else too. Air cooling doesn't give you very much benefit for the amount of money you pay. Liquid cooling gives you huge benefit for not much more money.

  • @mhaneline I can't maintain the Water cooling setup, as far as I know since, I just don't have the room for it.

  • @mit871chell Check out the Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultima. It mounts on the outside of the case where your rear exhaust fan is. It is by far the best "kit" you can buy. You can probably find a few components that are a bit higher quality, but they are a lot more expensive and don't come in 1 pre-packaged kit. It's kind of hot where I live, and trust me.. if I didn't have water cooling, my computer would be running very hot. Here's what I get from it:

    cpu idle/load 29c/48c

    gpu idle/load 31c/52c

  • ima firin mah lazor

  • wy not make it in copper? could have reduced the size and the fan rpm needed to cool it down and gotten the same effect(theoretically at least)

  • @Lovegear The heatpipes are copper. Fins might be copper. Whole thing is nickel plated to look classy.

  • @Markworth

It's also plated because copper doesn't remain pretty for very long. It acquires a "patina" over time and turns green. The plating is much more durable and it's so thin it doesn't really effect cooling.

  • accelero s1 rev 2 with 2 120 fans does the job fine

  • I would never purchase that....nice to see the set up...but a bit out of hand.

  • how bout running in sli or crossfire both have the same cooler how will u make it fit?

  • @uLyb0y Have one point up and one point down. But honestly if you're using this you have a bad-ass card like the 5970 or something and you probably not necessarily need 2 of them.

  • Does that fit in a case, or do you need to cut a hole in the case wall for it to poke out of?

  • The more cooling the better... but this is completely impractical. You can't even put the card in crossfire anymore! I think this cooler is bad.

  • i like ur vids, very clear

  • just wondering when u bought ur thermalright Spitfire does it come w/ the GTX bolt thru kit which is for the nvidia gtx 200 series?? or i have to buy them seperate coz im planning to buy spitfire for my gtx 260

  • thats huge!

  • @koka300 that's what she said

  • hey linus which vrm cooler is it?

  • one question that fan thing looks likes it wobbles on the gpu those it?

  • Thanks! Good video. Very useful indeed.

  • :D he said 5850 instead of 5870 :D

  • "Just showing this thing around a little bit because it looks so huge and cool." Last time I said that I got arrested.

  • @ab0rtion one of the better sex jokes lately

  • @ab0rtion ...nice name, nice comment, your kewl.

  • @ab0rtion XD

  • @ab0rtion L-O-L

  • @ab0rtion hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah

  • if I put one of eyefinity 6 5870 and other normal 5870 works in my system?

  • WOW very nice cooler!

  • lol, Thermalright are going out of hand.

  • I need to know how the Spitfire performs when mounted upside down. Many people have tower CPU heat sinks so facing it up would not work. I have a Prolimatech Megahalems and a GTX 480. I'm not sure how much different it would perform upside down, as this goes against the direction of the heat evaporation going on inside of the heat pipes. Fuck.

  • how would you do crossfire with that thing on there? anyone else see the problem?

  • @yc1494Tech by turning the other one the other way

  • @Venddenta ah. i see it now.

  • Tech Tips? yer kidding right? Holding a £400+ graphics card by its pci-express interface??!!! NOT TOO CLEVER!!!

Oh and I notice that thermalright have done their usual and not cooled ALL the mosfets!!!, by that I mean, the one thats located to left and above the gpu, between the 2 holes on pcb...

  • That is absolutely amazing hahahah...so awesome.

  • imagine this cooler in a computer with TWO 5970 and TWO of this cooler

  • Yeah !!!! Love that monsterous one !! :)) Gotta install it to, you know GTX 480 or HD 5970
