If you spin the valve a few times, and then pick it up off the seat, rotate, and set it back down it will go by much quicker. Basically by lifting it and setting it back down you are moving the grit of the lapping compound back into where you are working. You can hear the difference between just after lifting the valve and if you have been working it awhile. Might save you some time in the future.
I used a dremel wire wheel to remove the shit off my valve seats, and it did a perfect job without damaging the surface of the seats.
