  • Cool. Looks like you have all the major solar portable charging solutions covered. I just picked up the 10 and Sherpa 120.

  • Excellent review. Thanks for your hard work on this.

  • Can you put alkaline AA's in the charger to use with the USB out? ( I know you can't charge these in there unless you want too explode yourself ) !

  • @matt4270 yes

  • Not sure if you are aware, but the GoalZero website has a free replacement plan for an upgraded Guide 10 that fixes the overheat issue. Might be worth checking out. And it has the potential to land you another Guide 10 for free.

Thanks for the great review, I now have one on order.

  • @walksindarkness thanks

  • I got the system to run my 5 volt computer fan that I hang on my hammock ridgeline. USB is 5 volt so its not quite strong enough to run a 12 volt fan but if you look for a 5 volt computer fan they still put out alot of CFM of air. Their are a few other UBS fans out on the market besides computer fans.

  • I use the Solio H1000.

  • I bought the adventure ten about a month ago. The charger melted on the first attempt. temps were in the eighties. Goal zero was aware of a problem with the unit and promptly replaced it. They recommended keeping the battery pack stored underneath the panel to minimize heat-related problems, not in the pocket.

Although it produces 12V, it goes through a step up process to do that. As a result the panels will only produce about 2 watts@ 12V. Better than nothing, but I was hoping for more.

  • Hi Beast I was blown away by this little gadget so much so i've just ordered one here in the U.K. it's RRP £85.00 all inn $127.50 thanks for putting this on my radar $7 im green as grass with envee goal0.com sell a $99.00 kit but by the time I pay postage and tax im back at £85.00 M.S.

  • @armouredcockroach cool, let me know what you think

  • @armouredcockroach I got the Solio H1000

  • Great vid! I like both my Brunton and Goal solar units.

  • Why not dynamo flashlights? They're great!

  • @Rhinoch8 you have to be actively cranking where solar setup works for you while you do other things

  • I want to get one of those solar chargers.

    schmoo

  • Watch for Goal zero at your local Costco, they have been doing a road shows in the pacific NW and there prices are a lot cheaper than online.

  • I think I prefer taking 1lbs worth of lithium batteries.

  • Great video! This looks like a great system. What is the combined weight of the Goal 0 ELITE Nomad 7M Solar Panel with the Goal0 Guide 10 4AA Battery Recharger?

  • Would you be able to attach velcro strips to the back of the unit so you could put it on your backpack when you are walking?

  • Take a look at eneloop batteries, there a cell within a cell concept that fully rechargeable and I hear really good things about them. I havent bought them yet, but it a priority prep buy item on my list!

  • cool product that could be extremely valuable if it meant you could always charge your phone. thanks beast.

  • IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII want one, 10 on the cool om-meter,

  • That was pretty indepth review, great job on it. Very cool stuff, you have some real neat man toy's. Thanks, take care and have a great day.

  • At the REI site, there are quite a few complaints that the battery pack/charger completely melts. LOL? --If I needed this, I would still buy one...but, be careful not to let that battery pack sit too long in the sun.

  • @brokor1 i havent had that issue with mine, from solar charging to laptop , when charging USB it gets a little warm but not hot.

  • Seems pretty bad ass dude... I freakin LOVE REI!

I could easily fill a whole shopping cart and more.

Thanks for the cool review dude

  • Want it ....???can you put in 4 duracell aa into that power pack and use them to charge your phone, as an extra backup??

  • @Hoosier9mm yep, pretty sweet

  • @Hoosier9mm As long as you don't try re-charge them (alkaline batteries), they could blow up, but you could use them to power your phone in an emergency.

  • I need to stop watching all these videos... my bank account doens't like it. thanks for the good video as always ;)

  • im buying it...

  • is there an REI in Bend or are you shopping at the one in Eugene?

  • @trollgoal i think bend has one, but ordered online

  • Looks like a cool product and great review!

  • good stuff!!!

  • Some good deals going on at REI right now. I kept reading consistent reviews of the charger getting really hot or melting. Have you seen that with yours?

  • @YokoWenis I did 3 charge/discharge cycles, 2 on solar and the last one charge off of the labtop. It got warm but I wouldnt say hot and nothing seemed like it was going to melt. when the smart phone was completely dead it seemed to get warmer, but nothing crazy

  • Great items, they are now on my to get list.

  • Thats Sweet

  • That is pretty cool.... don't get me wrong, but having the know how and few few small crank generators can't be beat.... Cheers.

  • Sweet Find !!!
