Yes! That's what makes this scene so funny. They told Hurley things like "no one is going to ask that, you silly" (not an exact quote). And it seemed silly when Hurley suggested it, but now he got that exact question. Hahaha!
Dr. Chang looks to be right around 46, himself. Maybe he was born in 1931, too, or close to it. Also, physicists tend to be good at math. But yeah, that was quick...
