My first reaction was "this has to be CGI", but I'll be, it's completely real. About time they put a camera on the SRBs, considering they are recovered. Id like to see this from liftoff to splashdown
It seperates a few minutes after the solid rocket boosters do. It doesn't land, most of it burns up in the atmosphere, and what's left harmlessly drops into the ocean. It's the only expendable portion of the Shuttle stack. The rocket boosters are recovered and used again on later missions.
It's just a tank that holds the liquid fuel. It, in and of itself, isn't used to propell the shuttle. The two boosters on the side and the shuttle itself are.

Pretty sure that big tank separates a little bit after the SRB's and then it falls back and is not recovered
