James VI of Scotland inherited the English throne and became James I of England but he did not create a united kingdom. The countries simply shared a monarch that is why the numerics were different. They couldn't conquer them totally like they had with every other nation prior to contact with the Celts. Because that was 800 or so years ago, we've built an Empire and conquered 25% of the globes land mass and occupied and dragged almost 75% of the worlds population into the future and industrialised modern era kicking and screaming since then.

the album sleeve credits a few other people with the chorus on this song, as well as more names still with the bagpiping (Aaron Shaw), snare drum, keyboards, bass, and tapan drum. but none of them are people whose names i know of appearing anywhere else in her albums, so i'm assuming they were studio musicians on hire.

I quite agree that we need to assume just as blood thirsty a demeanor as our enemies, to at least survive this onslaught in Afghanistan & Iraq.
The mistake would be to turn the regions into melted glass with the detonation of a nuke. Doing so would release the cells ensconced around the world, into the ultimate Jihad. We'd have "little Baghdad" in every town/city in the U.S. IED's, suicide idiots, etc... bent on revenge.

Instead, we need to realize this enemy lives to be martyred. Thus, we need to disappear the heads from the Hydra. Kidnap, torture and execute the radical Imam's that inspire these warriors to the agenda the Imam's won't fight themselves.
That way the leaders are a memory, but they're bodies aren't found so they can be martyred and inspire the cause further.
The suicide bombers have posters placarded all over the regions, touting their sacrifice after the fact.

In that case, given those posters give the name of the psychotic that actually accepts a supreme being needs their help to establish his dominion upon his created earth amid his created people, our forces need to kidnap every last member of their family. From the youngest to the oldest, and kill them. So that martyr will not only have virgins to break in in heaven, but he/she will have their family to keep them company.
Sending the message of how costly their intent to rule the world, shall be.

This enemy will never be placated until all infidels are dead. They hide among the innocent of their communities, so that when we strike back against the enemy there, we look like the bad guys to the world, for the collateral damage our strike effected.Given they'll sacrifice their own people for the cause, we have to recognize there can be no mercy for those who don't know what that is in the first place.

Today it's all very PC. "Rules of War" and all that. When in truth, if you choose to make war on an enemy you eliminate them by any means necessary. That way, they are your enemy no more.
Today, sad to say, radical Muslims show us what a formidable enemy is like. For it is so, when they have nothing to lose and nothing can threaten their resolve to destroy the enemy utterly.
Teach them the way of war and show them just how many of them we can make die.
In ways they never imagined possible.

I agree with you in not nuking anyone.
However you calling the "Rules of War" PC. The Gealic Irish had rules of war. They tended to stick to them. No killing of women and children, no mistreatment of enemy prisoners. They did not care if theirs enemys did not obey those rules.
They did. If not they became no better than those they fought against.

As every enemy is unique in the tactics they employ in war, so to are the rules of engagement maliable to meet the enemy face to face.
In Iraq, for example, we face an enemy that would gladly slit the throat of every "Infidel" child. They already slaughter their own women in the name of perverse "honor", so killing ours would be no problem.
That being the case, killing theirs sends a message! For that enemy sustains hate for generations. Eliminating those generations stops that enemy.
