So, that's why we had to trade. We traded McLouth and brought in Charlie Morton who's going to be a great pitcher. And Zach Duke is now playing better. See, there's more to winning than just the lineup. You need pitching, and the Pirates unfortunately did not have that last year.
That shows how uninformed you are. What prospects did we have to trade? The system was totally barren besides McCutchen and Brad Lincoln. I guess you want them to trade those two?
And, I'm tired of people saying the Pirates should have gone the FA to get pitching. Show me an example of a team as bad as us that got good by FA shopping. Further, where do we get the money for that? The Pirates only make $144 million, ranking them 28th in all baseball. You show me how that's enough to buy players.
Those would be the Kansas City Royals and Florida Marlins respectively. FYI, the Yankees and Red Sox ranked 1st and 2nd, which is why they have the money to just go buy whatever player they want. The Yankees spent 63% of their revenue on player salaries, the Pirates spent 45%. But, the Yankees are still making tons of profit because their revenue is so high. If the Pirates spent at the same rate as them, we'd make a lot less profit. That's how it goes with the small market teams.
The other 55% goes into paying for the salaries of the rest of their staff, ie, coaches, people in management, the guys at the ticket windows, etc. Then, they have to pay for operating costs at PNC Park which involve the lease and the utilties (which you know will not be cheap). then, they have to pay for the decorations like the banners, signs, etc. Finally, they have to pay for office supplies like stationary or computers. After all that, Bob Nutting takes whatever profit is left.
Every ballpark has those things. If we didn't, it'd give the rest of the country something else to laugh at us about. Fact is that they don't need to do anything besides what they're doing now. Bob Nutting has kept every promise he's made so far in regards to spending money (ie, Domican Academy, increasing spending on draft, etc). So, when he says that he'll increase the payroll when we're ready to compete, I can believe him because he's earned my trust.

I'm a lifelong Phillies who lived in Pittsburgh for the first half of the 2000s and saw lots of Pirate games.
And I have to admit, I really, really like this song.
I also developed an affinity for the team. In fact, I still attend Opening day in Pittsburgh with my best Pittsburgh friend (who is a Bucco diehard). I hope they get some ownership, break this funk they've been in and play winning baseball (against everyone but Philly, that is). Those fans deserve so much better.

When I had season tickets 3 years ago they played this at the beginning of games then they moved it to the end and now its completely gone. I'm a Reds fan but one of the Pirates memory that will always stick in my head is when Willie Stragell almost hit a homerun completely out of Riverfront Stadium. They used to brag about Mcgwire homeruns but he had nothing on some of Stargell and Dave Parkers homerun shots.
Ive been a pirates fan since I was 5 (im 15) and the best moment ive had as a Pirates fan was back in 2006. My dad and I watched everyone root and chear on Freddy Sanchez as he won the batting title. And my dad caught Ian Snells jersey.
My fav team is the padres because I'm from San Diego BUT Xavier Nady is my fav player I'm so glad hes doing so good. I like the pirates too though!!!!!

I'm a Reds fan but one of the Pirates memory that will always stick in my head is when Willie Stragell almost hit a homerun completely out of Riverfront Stadium. They used to brag about Mcgwire homeruns but he had nothing on some of Stargell and Dave Parkers homerun shots.

Ive been a pirates fan since I was 5 (im 15) and the best moment ive had as a Pirates fan was back in 2006. My dad and I watched everyone root and chear on Freddy Sanchez as he won the batting title. And my dad caught Ian Snells jersey.

My fav team is the padres because I'm from San Diego BUT Xavier Nady is my fav player I'm so glad hes doing so good. I like the pirates too though!!!!!
