I have no intention on stringing, messing with strings etc, but my current string job by sports authority has forced me to ask you this. Could I shorten the extra part left over of the knot, because its overly long and the end is very sharp, and scratches me when I touch my racquet.
@arsy123 yes you can. It is recommended (according to kipper mate stringing guide) to keep them at 1/4 of an inch). If they are very sharp, but can blunt the end.
your videos are helpful. thx. couple q's tho. with knots, i'm finding when i string my racq that the red string in your vid which is on my right side and not the left side of the other string which makes me feel like i'm knotting it backwards. any advice. also i use a polyester string for my mains and they seem very stiff to tie. and when i tie the tension seems to loosen up. how can i tie them w/o feelin like i lose a bit of tension of 60lbs. thx
I'm sure Yulitle would answer this but I know he has been quite busy. You pull tension on the final main, then clamp it as usual, then tie and cinch up your knot by hand or with gentle use of a starting clamp or pliers. You DO NOT pull tension on any knot. Pulling tension with any kind of tension head on a knot is bad practice and not necessary. Thanks
It's really too small to be used as a starting knot properly. The forces a finishing knot is subjected to are smaller and different than those applied to a starting knot. If you use a starting clamp to start your crosses, then this knot is obviously usable as it is a finishing knot in that instance.
I've been using this knot for about a year and a half now and love it...and have used it with everything including gut. however, i'm going to take my certification test soon and the certifier mentioned to me that I should know a "gut knot".... that the Parnell can be used for gut but there is another knot specifically for gut.... any thoughts? thanks in advance for any advice.
You can use it anywhere. BUT, if you use it at the start of the crosses, you have to start with a starting clamp. This know is NOT to be used as a starting knot.
Thank you sooo much YULitle.. coz u said ur camera's no good at close ups, you came up with this! Thank you thank you! Now I really know how to do a parnell knot!
Great instructional video =) Thank you so much!

Thanks, I didn´t know this knot. This explaining is so clear. You´re a tennis freak (in the good sense)

Wouldnt this loosen some of the tension for the last row since you cannot pull tension on this?

By far the best of the tie-off knots: easy to do, neat finish, and closes up perfectly even with monofilament string (unlike the double half hitch).

yes very good, but what is the parnell knot good for?

super !!! I cant see it clearly on other videos !!! Thanks for the effort !!

you may have answered this already but can this not be used for starter knot. Well, I know it can(ive used it a few time as one) but should it be.

I have no idea. I think that the double half-hitch is better for gut, personally. But, I've never heard of a gut knot...

thanks, i'll press for more info.
