People say that business places are not suppose to treat people like that, but often times it happens. Every race experiences it, some more than others. I'm African American and I been in places where people would follow me, thinking I was going to steal something, just cause i'm black. This is something few white people will experience. It's sad. People actually think racism is dead. But its still alive and well.It just depends on what race you are and where you live.
I once had an experience with a rude-ass saleslady like that - I wrote a complaint online, and the next time I went to that store, she was NOWHERE to be found!
CHEW ON THAT, MISSY, you think you're doing someone a favor by serving them?
LOL What was up with that walk she did at the end as she was goin to the office? Don't be actin scared now, Amy. You should have known that was comin. You can't keep a job treatin customers like that. Even in the unemployment line she gonna have a hard time cuz ppl usually dont get benefits if their dismissal was due to misconduct in the workplace. Discrimination is DEF a misconduct.
@sabre926 if there is ONE thing that some of these old school retail sales people should know is, EVERYTHING is automated these days - their words, their actions, etc - Big Brother may not have been watching them back then when they could get away with it, but it sure can come back and bite 'em in the hiney NOW!
To Xavierdejuam, the soap opera was "The Judge." A brother and step-sister were being charged for a few things, including being self-appointed "neighborhood watch people," where they searched a black man (who lived there!).
I am half spanish and half jamaican my mother's genes are slighty stronger than my father's so the black on my skin shows. I was in a store shopping for a gift for my sister's 40th b'day. I remember very well that the shop assistance accusing me of stealing. When security searched my bags and found nothing I asked her why did you make such a shitty assumption she replied we have to be careful of the type of people that shop here. I felt like shit infront of all those white people.
@xavierdejuam That's great..."the type of people that shop here." I remember one of those soap opera courtroom dramas where two whites profiled an African-American man in their neighborhood, and he said, "Guess they felt like they needed to keep creeps like me out." Don't you just LOVE the "kinds of people who shop here" types of remarks.
I'd hate to think, at 7:01, what Amy's saying under her breath. Some of the more printable dreaded possibilities: "That little [racial slur] is becoming such a thorn in my side. That [racial slur], I just can't get rid of her."
Amy's toast!! Her manager saw Amy trying to get to the Caucasian customer and pass over Whitley the day before. Put a simple two and two together, and the manager knew right away that Whitley was spot-on with what she said. I like that: A problem with "people like me." Reminds me of when on The Judge, two vigilante block watchers searched a black man (who loved in that neighborhood). The black man said, "They wanted to keep 'creeps like me' out."
Amy's stuck-up, racist ass is about to be on the unemployment line. If Whitley spent nearly as much as I think, her boss is going to be PISSED that they lost that sale.
I read somewhere that this episode is based on a real life experience Debbie Allen had at a jewelry store in Beverly Hills where a white saleswoman assumed that she could not afford anything there because she was black.
she better fired!
