  • Yes, Salif Keita is born in the Mayan-Astrologie as "2- BAATZ " which meens, that he is a bridgebuilder and keeper of Art and Cultur and he is able to meet and to bring up the consciousness as well as the awareness to the people. Thank you for your music, dear Salif Keita.

  • Oh, how I love it all!

  • Salif Your voice is a World Treasure. Thank you!

  • Sina is the name of Salif's father, who died years ago. Salif is praising is father's humanity. His father in the beginning did not want him to become a singer saying music was for the griots and that salif was descendant of emperor Sunjata Keita, for whom griot sang.

  • But Salif replied by sayin that he would die if he did not sing, that music is just eating him from inside. So Salif was born to be a musician.. his creative ability is beyond the comprehension of any griot in Mali and Guinea. Few Malians grasp the metaphors in Salif's songs and he is extremely poetic and masterful of the Madingue language.

  • @Saliffan hola is me camara im from west africa and im mandingo...you now what salif is the proud of all mandingo becouse the thing he sing about ,,me self wen i linsten to is music relax totaly i dont now wi but its hapen to me

  • @Saliffan thank you for sharing that info. Something completly new to me : )

Tell me, what about SOUAREBA ? really like that song and would like to have an understanding of it. Thank you once again and apologies for bothering.

    Greetings from Angola.

  • Thank you Saliffan for saying just the truth about Mr. Salif Keita.

It reflects the poet that a lot of poeple don't understand, I have now graspt the real meaning of african music throuh Mr. Keita's Music.

    Again Thank you.

  • @Saliffan I actually meant DJEMBE. thanks

  • @rukalivra Djembe means drum..but the song is not all about that. The song means: my love, my soul mate is back I am happy, my friend is back I am happy. I have been grooming, dressing well... but it all was for nothing if my love was not around. One may have tons of money and gold but still they are not truly yours, but if one has a good child, a good wife/husband or a good friend, these are truly yours. The song is referring to emigrants leaving their wives behind them for years.

  • @rukalivra In short, in Djembe, Salif is telling Malian emigrants that family is more important and that somehow (mystically) your family and good friends are yours eternally even after death... whereas, money and gold (materials) are only yours temporarily: you can be dispossessed of them any time by life events.

    It's my pleasure to explain.

  • Wow

  • could anybody tell me what sina means please?

  • sina is the name of salif father

  • Where is it safe to travel in Africa now?

  • Burkina Faso is pretty safe. I have been there five times in a row for 2 months. I have just come back. I love Burkina Faso. It is safe, people are very nice and welcoming. There are many more places that are safe in Africa. Africa is much more than a place with diseases and wars, it is a beautiful continent with beautiful and nice people. There is also a lot of happiness in Africa unlike many Americans think (I am French). I love Africa!

  • i can recommend you travelling to Eritrea, as it is one of the safest states in africa

  • @ Sandarge Eri could be the poorest but it is the SAFEST not only in Africa but the whole world

  • Sandarge, you are completely wrong about Eritrea. I can say it is one of the most safe country in the world. U can even walk very late at night with no one bothering you. And the people are very nice, warm and friendly. I don't know from where u get this info.

  • Fuck you too...This has got to be one of the stupidest comments someone could ever put up. dissing four different countries. Your a internet gangster. I'd beat your ass on the spot if you ever said anything like that in my face. No questions asked. I'm not from either but im here in their defense. Next time just shut up...

  • Cameroon is the safest country in all Africa. We have never been involved in wars and we kicked the shit out of the french in the 60s to get them out of our country. We are self reliable, proud black men and we are doing ok despite a corrupted government at the service of western gangsters/governments.

  • LEGEND.

  • Salif,tu es vraiment unique et trés fort

  • soul music of africa our mothers land destination luv africa 4 life..legend he is salif

  • Remind me of my stay in South Africa, listening to this while taking my shower.

  • So where you from originally?

  • I am from the best continent in the world: AFRICA.

  • i mean which country? Were u in SA to work or to study

  • I spend my summer holiday there every year.

  • one of african standards. A timeless song

  • Salif est unque das son genre

    luv yaaaaaaaaa,

    thanks

  • i regret that i don't understand the lyrics.... because i don't know the language. what it is about this song?

  • My name is Sina! : D

  • great rhythm and voice, i love the feeling on this music.

    what are the lyrics about?

  • I love this song.

  • In Estonian "sina" means "you". But it doesn't matter, think, there's a similar word in any language. But the truth is that Salif isn't important to be understood in the meaning of words. His songs are understood without knowledge of any language. Thank you, Salif for your great voice and such awesome songs!

  • hey my name is also Sina :) and I love West Africa, spent 8 years over there. Africa gets in yr blood either u hate it or u love it..

5 stars from me.. I miss Africa and its wonderfull black nights, with drums, frogs and cricettes..their is no spelling check on this pc..so sorry..smile

  • what does sina mean

    /thanks

  • Sina: the name of Salif 's Father. Salif dedicated this song to his beloved father."Sina is dignified whether you are good to him or not he would still respect you because to Sina material is nothing compared too humanity.... " Sina died years ago. He was a Donsso a traditional hunter. According to him, a seer had to told in Senegal that he would bear a child that would have natural knowledge and we malians know tha Salif is the most creative artist there can be, his skill is undescribable.

  • Thanks for the insight. You definitely help me understand something I have being podering for a while.

  • Salif Keita, I ni baraje. O be diya n ye.

  • in mende sina means tomorrow

  • Makes me think of John Walters when he was in The Embassy.

  • Yes, Sina is the name of his father

  • i don't think Sina is a name, I know in mandinka and bambara it means the "other wife", for example if a woman is maried to a man who has another wife, that other wife is her "sina"

  • Tekere!

  • @souleymanee c'est vrai mon frere salif n y'a pas deux ds le monde entier

  • Thanx a lot.

  • I love the song very much, thought I don't understand the language I feel emotionally connected with song ..Some from Mali please elucidate the word "Sina"in English

  • Sina is the name of Salif's father, in the song he is saying I forgive you the way you treated me (becoz of his albinoism). I'm not from MAli, I'm actually from Zimbabwe, but I heard him explain the song some years ago.

  • Hi, my fellow Zimbo. I'm surprised u know the meaning. As they say...knowledge is power so more power to you.

Now, can you help me too? There's another of his songs that was very popular back home called Iniaghige or something. I think I got the spelling wrong or something coz I've looked everywhere but can't find it.

  • Hey Ashley, great to see a fellow Zimbo Keita fan. To answer your question the correct spelling is Iniagige. He's redone the song a few time on various albums. I think it first appeared on Soro in the 80s, then he redid on Sosie - a limited edition album only released in some parts of Europe on C.D and only in Mali on cassette.

  • I appreciate your explanation. I would like to have an interpreter for all Keita's lyrics, but perhaps it's just as well to continue to just relish the spirit of his music.

  • Ni moi non plus.
