@wildoutdoorskiller4 Any kind of liver works great as a drag. There is a book available called "Tracking dogs for finding wounded deer" by John Jeanneney. It is a wealth of information on the subject, and I would highly recommend it!! Ahgahtay was 5 months old in the video, she is now 1 1/2 years old and has found several deer. Thanks for the comment!
To UbuntoO: Most states that allow deer tracking require the dog to be on a leash, so you must train that way. I work my dog various ways including having other people lay out the blood line so that me and the dog do not know where we will end up. When my dachshund sees that leash she gets excited and knows what we're going to be doing.
Good video, I have a BMH and we did a lot of sma;; track session when cooper was 6months old and one of his first tracks was 2mile long and we found a 10 pointer for a girl . do you have john Jeanneney book on tracking wounded deer ? Cooper is in book #2 with a photo of that deer.. Keep up the good work you will make some hunter very happy. I found a deer last year 2.5 mile by gps. happy tracking mike
Thanks Mike, I do in fact have that book, and saw your picture...very cool!!! Ahgahtay just found her first deer, and I'm very excited!! I appreciate the comment, and I wish I knew if you had any video's of Cooper on U tube. Thanks!! Rob

I like this video alot. It's the first tracking video I've seen on Youtube.
The man is givning all kiinds of body language clues to the dog including turning where he wants her to go and verbal hints or prompts.
I think the only way to not do that is to just let the dog loose to see how she does without any body over verbal prompts, intentional or accidental.
Dogs are not only excellent trackers, they are also very good at reading our body language.
Nice work tho with this sweet dog!
