@2wingo The bulk of Yakusho Koji's Musashi series did follow Yoshikawa Eiji's novel, but the ending of this saga was a definite departure. In this series Musashi rows his boat back from his duel with Kojiro to the waiting arms of Otsuu-san.

It's surprising to discover that Takewake Muga is still acting.I remember he acted in a movie around l969 about Judo master..... The best part of Musashi's spirit was his will of learning all different arts.I think that made him more spiritually human.

Musashi does not emphasize killing. Musashi teaches finding your own Way, whether that be the Way of the Fighter, the Way of the Artist, the Way of the Ox Herder, or what have you. The Book of Five Rings is chiefly about strategy, but he also takes a great deal of time emphasizing to find your heart's passion and find your own way of doing it, instead of following in the footsteps of others

i saw this video(most of it anyway) when it was serialized on tv in my area. it had english subtitles then. it was one great experience for me. as captivating the story was,the movie itself was very well crafted in all aspects, obviously ,including the quality of acting. i have seen several of musashi's films already including the three part one of Toshiro mifune. my great hope is that someone would be kind enough to post the whole thing into youtube with english dubbing. thanks.

I was so impressed, this movie's quality is so high that it reminds me the memory how I had been excited to watch the show at that time (over 20 years ago...).

The intro music was so superb: it's composed by Shigeaki Saegusa who later became a very fomous composer (at that time he's still young and yet to be known well).

NHK had another production over the new year of 1989-90.

this looks a lot like the same standard.

Since then they have started to put singers in the main role.

needless to say, they don't have the same caliber as the trained actors do.

It becomes a joke and most martial artists stop watching after 10 episodes.
