This is one of those episodes where it always ends up with a spilled soda, the computer, and some hysterical fool wiping their eyes and saying repeatedly, "Oh, man...."
"A cat may have kittens in the oven, but that don't make 'em biscuits!!" The horrified look on his face after he says it just makes it even funnier. xD
From Chuck Ranberg's speech impediment, to Niles kicking Daphne in the butt, to Frasier's impersonation of an irate black woman, this episode had me doubled over in pain from laughter. Best episode ever, okay? OKAY!
I'm a black woman who loves Frasier and this episode! The kitten comments, rofl you are amazing Kelsey Grammar! He's so gifted and has produced many successful black tv shows
"You have no idea how difficult it is for a black woman in a white mans world! I DON'T THINK SO!" Haha. With the finger waving. Gosh I miss this show. Hilarious.
Strange that Daphne injured her right wrist in the beginning but the last scene she had the support on her left wrist. To get Niles in my bed I'd have done it too and had a sex change. lol Sexy man!
As usual, Martin is the best at getting to the root of everything. Frasier and Niles spectacularly over analyse and Martin simply says it how it is. I would love for Frasier and Niles to realise for once how perceptive Marty is and how well he knows them.
"your parents only had you for the first 18 years" -- hey, that's brilliant advice actually ...I know some people who could benefit from that mirror to the face
@FUwogs FUCK you you ignorant, bigoted, stereotypical asshole so what if some black women speak with that dialect you dont have to disrespect her like that
i have failed on my new years resolution already......
the last 2 years i have been addicted to watching fraiser on youtube, and i told myself i would wean myself off this year.......here's to another 365 days of Frasier :D
I think this is an awesome episode. I'm black and wasn't the least bit offended about this. It points out the problems with the way we think sometimes.
to tell the truth, Frasier's advise to that Maria with the cheating husband was extremely bad... the woman *who is a pathetic loser* with the loser husband who cheats... change yourself was Frasier's advise... you have to be kidding me!!!
LOL!!!! I LOVE the off-hand remarks about KACL employees that have met a ghastly end e.g in The Seal Who Came to Dinner when they were talking about 'The Happy Traveler' who got kidnapped in the jungle and they said something to the effect of "unless they get more realistic with those ransom demands, he's never coming out of that jungle", LOL.
i always thought the actors that play Frasier's dad and Daphne are a pair of cocks. Other than them, i like the televisual programme named Frasier . . . Close friends mock me for it.
i think we can and the debate with these wise words......"it aint the white mans fault anymore!"...........who said that?....Bill Cosby!...wakey wakey guys, the world keeps turning, so you better catch up or you'll miss the ride
Chuck Ranberg is not only the name of that character with the speech impediment, but also the name of a writer for "Frasier" and many other classic sitcoms.
LOL--one of my favorite episodes: "a cat can have kittens in the oven, that don't make 'em biscuits" ..."I've got this brand new career, so all I can say is God bless your guilty white ass"..."Nothin' stops a man from playin' the field like a night out on the lawn"...
and the one liner from Martin to Niles about kick boxing: "so ya kick 'em and run away"
" It explores some of what really goes on behind the scenes of class and race discrimination. "
What?!?
Thats what you take away from this episode?
Furthermore, any distaste pointed at Dr. Mary, is directed at her, not because she is black, but because she typifies the kind of charlatan that says they are one thing, while they are not.
After skimming through the plot, I get the point, but it hardly dismisses the underlying message of the "African American Experience". So far, I've learned that being black means you're in constant struggle with oppression, if you're a black Yale student from an upper middle class background you "hardly" represent that "experience" and if you're a black woman you're likely to meet some stereotypes like the ones portrayed in this episode. Never have I been so offended. Thanks Frasier producers!
What is the point of your last message? You're offended on behave of both black women and white men?
You really think a bunch og writers from the 21st century would sit down and write like a group of white men in the 60's? Everybody's aware of the way things are now! Always afraid of saying something wrong. I'm Danish, so I did not grow up with this kind of issue, the black kids at school were just kids.
@Star16 Noone ever thought about the color of their skin. But I now know that things are different in America, just look at the debate regarding Michelle Obama's "naked dress".. COOOOOOOME ON AMERICA, stop freaking looking for every fucking single reason to scream RACIST!!!! The joke is just as much on Frasier as it is on Dr Mary..
I'm sorry this episode offended you, because it closes you eyes for the warmth and humour that is so obvious..
@BXL4ever Keep an open mind? I don't find anything funny about how the producers characterized blacks. I love Frasier, but this is one episode I will not be able to watch ever again.
@Star16 yes keep an open mind and all the other stuff i wrote..
come on, it's two black women not all blacks! i'm white but don't drink sherry, go to the opera or wear armani. it's a show about a few people not about generalization
@BXL4ever It's not so much the two black women because I can see that their roles were purposely made that way. It's the comment about Niles' dorm mate being from a wealthy affluent background and Frasier's comment of that not representing the so-called "african american experience". As if the producers had slide that in there about oppression being representative of blacks. I think you're missing my point entirely. It's clear the producers were trying aim for "diverse".....
@kaejae24 You missed my point entirely. I'm aware that the producers probably were making an attempt to be tolerant or "diverse". However, it's ironic that what they consider to be tolerant is really racist in a lot of ways. It's very simple when you think about it.
@Star16 Yes, it is simple, so don't make such an issue out of it. It was just plain funny, and I agree with the other person, Kim Coles would not have allowed herself to be exploited. There are things in all races that are just plain funny. So lighten up and except it for what it is. Humor!! JAZZI-JAYE
@1janice100 You still don't understand what I'm pointing out here. Of course Kim Coles wouldn't have cared because in today's society it's a very common perception that blacks are the under dogs of the U.S. amongst blacks and non blacks. That's what's considered to be "diverse thought", but it's really in fact undermining the image of many blacks who are in fact successful. So, yes I am making a big deal because it is and if people brush it off like it's nothing then this "image" will continue.
@BXL4ever ... but in all reality, they DID make a generalization and since the producers of Frasier are extremely liberal (and all liberals tend to preach about his diversity, tolerance, and "racism"), ironically they paint an image of themselves trying to relate to black people through "diversity", but making rash generalization in order to set up some identity of being a certain race. Hence my outrage at the "African American Experience" comment. Heh, trust me. You don't need to point out..
@BXL4ever .. how everyone pulls the race card. I'm just pointing out the irony and hypocrisy of many liberals' ideas of racism. Seeing as many people would consider "The African American Experience" to be "tolerant"- not racist, ignorant, or stereotypical.
@BXL4ever Another thing is that they never implied in the show that being pompous, wearing armani, or drinking sherry was a "white thing" like they implied a certain "experience" with blacks. So, it's irrelevant to point out what you do and don't do as a white person. Considering that those characteristics can be applied to any snob-despite their race.
What, being affluent and wealthy cant be representative of being black? Im sorry, I wasnt aware that my skin color meant I needed to be the underdog of society. Suddenly, successful black people dont represent the BLACK experience, whatever the hell that is. This episode is written by a bunch of liberal fanatics who spend too much of their time making generalization of people based on skin color -Trying to hard tolerant when in the end theyre being racist.
I have to say that I was offended by this episode and had to turn it off half way into this video. This was obviously a poor attempt at a diverse script. I have to wonder how the producers view blacks. They just had to turn this Mary character into a classic stereotypically black woman and it pisses me off, but what really made me sick was to hear the comment on how building golf courses is hardly representative of the African American experience......
This is my first time through all the episodes and may i just say.....i want chuck in every remaining episode......that last scene is my favorite thing ever.
@BlackOrchids6 1st off Robin Quivers doesn't act like Mary. She is passive. Howard is the aggressive one. And Mary is an extreme stereotype of how a black woman acts. Even Frasier's portrayl of Mary is stereotypical. Also if you are looking for an example of a successful black radio personality look at Wendy Williams. She sounds and doesn't act anything like Mary's character.

Gosh, I just LOL at Daphne's face when at 9:16 but then I also LMAO'd when Niles kicked her. Maybe the fall was a bit exaggerated, but that's what makes it so much fun.

@Star16 Do you think that if there was anything remotely racist about this episode that Kim Coles would have guest starred in it or any black actress
kaejae24 1 year ago
@kaejae24 You missed my point entirely. I'm aware that the producers probably were making an attempt to be tolerant or "diverse". However, it's ironic that what they consider to be tolerant is really racist in a lot of ways. It's very simple when you think about it.
Star16 1 year ago

Star16 1 year ago
@BXL4ever .. how everyone pulls the race card. I'm just pointing out the irony and hypocrisy of many liberals' ideas of racism. Seeing as many people would consider "The African American Experience" to be "tolerant"- not racist, ignorant, or stereotypical.
Star16 1 year ago

At the very end, Daphne's brace is on the wrong wrist.
raerae1281 1 year ago
@raerae1281
Maybe her wrist healed, and she's pretending it's still hurt so that Niles will continue, and she forgot which wrist it was.
Of course, maybe not. Continuity is the one thing Frasier doesn't do well.

I'm sure that Mary is inspired by Robin Quivers.
BlackOrchids6 1 year ago 2
