  • I want Morgan Freeman to narrate my life.

  • seems visa cleaned out the nike slogans on his father's hat and shirt.

  • One of the greatest series of commercials, and messages ever shared. Simply unbelievable!

  • Did they REALLY think that this looked good??? To take this moment in track and field history and use it to create a commercial. If you really think about it, it doesn't even sound right together!!

  • Derek Redmond didn't finish 1st, he didn't finish 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th. He, and his father were disqualified...

  • @JonnersEvans too funny :D

  • @JonnersEvans I almost cried with laughter when I read that.

  • I hate Visa and I like Derek Redmond

  • i wanna get married by morgan freeman! "i now pronounce you husband and wife" wouldn't that be awesome!

  • A touching event. I love Morgan Freeman but I think its kinda rude for Visa to exploit this event for advertising purposes.

  • I don't think he's screaming in pain. I think its because he lost his chance. Had to be heartbreaking after years of training.

  • makes me cry everytime..

  • I want Morgan Freeman to narrate my life.

  • Just to let everyone know they needed to get only the olympics permission since all athletes sign a waiver for this type of stuff when they enter. Just a fun fact, if you look at the orginal footage. The father is wearing all NIKE but it is photoshopped over into all white clothing. Check it out.

  • What does Visa have to do with this? Well, look at it this way -- Visa buys airtime and does sponsorship for the Olympics, of course. They could send in some of their everyday commercials and be done with it. Instead, they took the opportunity to add character to the Games, bringing back important stories such as this one. How many of you viewers remember seeing this happen on live TV back in 1992? And, haven't you looked up the real story since seeing this commercial, too?

  • Visa takes advantage of great moments in life and turns them somehow into a credit card company commercial. Why? Because they are desperate to find something to publicly advise others to use a credit card, but Derek Raymond a true hero taken advantage by visa. thats sad

  • @yinnyisadog do you not think he would have had to give permission for this?

  • Why are there so many onions on my desk?!

  • yeah i cry whenever i watch this. crying in 20 seconds? dayum

  • So, how does Visa fit into this story?

  • very heart wrenching i cried....

  • Funny how they removed the Nike "Just do it" sign from Derek's father's cap

  • but he..and his father...finished.

  • who are the 8 losers that disliked that...... terrorists

  • @Tylerheino What the fuck? Wha tdoes terrorism have to do with this?

  • Just knowing that that was it. That he had run his last race and his career had not ended in the way he had imagined. Years and years of training and preperation and dreaming. That and the extreme physical pain he would have been in, are all you need to know about this mans character. Truly inspirational show of strength and determination in what must have been one of the worst moments of his life.

  • redmonds2012[.]com Please support the campaign to get Derek and his father to light to Olympic Cauldron!

  • A lot of people don't understand how emotional that was for him. My uncle is a retired pro triathlete, and he went to the Olympic Trials but didn't make it that far. When he realized his body was breaking down it was emotional to leave a sport he had been training every day for since he was in his teens. I'm sure Derek Redmond had endorsements, trainers, nutritionists, everything that went into his "brand" and also the years of training, and it was all over when he tore his hamstring.

  • Evoke emotion --> Sell Product, the beauty of advertising...

  • VISA: Making money from other people's misfortune since 1970.

  • Never give up, just keep on spending, we are there for you, as long as you keep spending

    Best Regards,

  • inside he won

  • brings me to tears every single time

  • 7 people are orphans.

  • Am i the only one that thinks that morgan freeman sounds like darth vader in this video?

  • shed tears...

    manly tears :(

  • God, this gets me every time.

    i find myself in tears

  • Remind me to send out the link to this vid for Father's Day.

  • BUT HE, AND HIS FATHER...FINISHED.

  • I dont think anybody knew who won that race or cared!!

  • It was especially sad as Redmond was one of the fastest guys in the world - he just kept getting injured.

As I remember, he had the fastest qualifying time going into the semis

  • I don't even care about who won

  • One of the most inspiring moments in athletic history.

  • How can you not like this?!

  • hahah i like how they edited out his dad's shirt that said "have you hugged a foot today?"

  • @Thebrowntown1234

His dad was wearing Nike from head to toe (his sons sponsor)

Nike hat, nike t shirt, nike trousers, nike shoes!

Doubt Visa want them dominating their ad!

  • I am joing track this season and if I ever blow out the same way this great man did I want my team mates to drag me to the finish line if they have to.

  • ill admit it. i cry whenever i see this

  • All that hard work and determination...

That's got to suck, but he finished (:

  • One tough son of a bitch

  • Sport 's most famous unforeseen erection

  • I've been reading Heroic, and sad stories about wars, the Halifax Explosion and the Olympics all day, and while I almost came to tears, for a number of reasons, it wasn't until I saw this that I did...

  • Heart determination to finish the race I say, he kept pushing no matter how much heart broken he lost that day. As he limped around the track, his father came waving to the medic to please get back..the son was in tears and in so much pain, the world will never forget the father and son 92 Olympic games. Never quit no matter what you do, this is an example of determination to follow through. They are winners in my book, I'm proud to say, It just a reminder, to always finish & never quit noway!

  • you look at an inspirational piece like this....and then you look at liu xiang from china in beijing 2008, and you wonder how he dares to call himself an athlete and receive endorsement deals from nike for basically quitting!! he's a wuss, a coward, and so undeserving of everything he's got! he's injured so he walks off the track...

  • @dragonrising

You're kidding, right? You're pretty harsh on a person you don't know, calling him a coward and saying he is "undeserving of everything he's got", like he somehow doesn't work hard???? He was injured and did the smart thing. Rather than possibly ruining his career by injuring himself more, he was smart, something any other athlete would have done...

I wouldn't be so quick to judge someone, especially someone who had the weight of his country on his back...

  • @tpacemaker2 if you read dragonrising's comment, he isn't saying Redmond is a wuss. He's saying Liu Xiang of China was a wuss. He was saying Xiang dropped from his race while Redmond finished his. Although DragonRising is wrong since Liu Xiand Didn't start his race. He got in the blocks, A false start brought them back and he walked away. Smartest yet hardest decision of his life. But neither Xiand or Redmond are wuss's. Just wanted to straighten this out.

  • @DarkMage530 I DID read his comment and I do know exactly what he is saying. I know he was referring to Liu Xiang of China. Now if you read my comment again, you will realize that that I knew this and that I was clearly disagreeing with his notion that Xiang was somehow undeserving or a coward....

So thanks, but you didn't need to "straighten" anything out......

  • @dragonrising He didn't walk off the track. Watch the whole video from other Derek Redmond videos. He continued.

  • @mmmmmvodka He's refering to Liu Xiang who walked off the track. Not Redmond. He is actually saying Redmond is an inspiration and compared him to Liu Xiang who in his eyes is a failure and a wuss.

  • i wanna know the song

  • i got goosebumps watching this video.. to see so much determination and passion that he doesnt give up where others would. A lot of athletes should take notes, including myself.

  • What song is this??

  • BAWWWWW

  • I agree...with VISA I will finish last....because fuckin' with you I'll spend the rest of my life in debt.

  • @joshtj44 Do you have a mirror to look in? Don't blame your mismanagement of money and lack of self control on Visa.

  • @XjulieO Was I talking to you?

  • Comment removed

  • @joshtj44 Obviously you don't know how an open forum works. The answer to your question is yes, yes you were. As a matter of fact you were talking to anyone and everyone who may see your comment. So there.

  • @XjulieO I'm not rude to people who are not rude to me...I never asked for your opinion...so how about you just worry about yourself and piss of. That's the last I'll say about it.

  • At 0:19, that part always gives me chills, when i see the ad!

  • STOP MAKING ME CRY!!!!!!!

  • how people manage to get into an argument on a olympic ad....that is about courage....and strength....is beyond me

  • WTH??? y these gotta make me cry?

  • one of the most touching moments in sports history

  • if his father hadnt come in he wouldve officially finished ... olympics disqualified him ... just sayin

  • @noxiousnirvana If his father didn't come then he would have just walked off.

  • @RazzleDazzle2340 he was already running and trying to make it when his father butted in ... in olympics u have to finish a race unassisted

  • @noxiousnirvana Butted in?? Wow, your as lame as they come.

  • @XjulieO well u do seem experienced in lame ... family?? lol

  • @noxiousnirvana What??? What are you laughing at? You said nothing funny....in fact it was quite juvenile. You've proven my ponit. Thanks!!

  • @RazzleDazzle2340 Ummm, no...he was going to finish no matter what. He was already headed to the finish line when his dad came to help him.

  • @noxiousnirvana Who cares, if his father that didn't help he would have just been that guy that worked hard for 4 years for nothing. But now he's become an inspiration lol. So it's actually better he helped

  • @RazzleDazzle2340 the point of the vid was he finished what he started and kept at it after adversity ... not that he had a good father

  • @noxiousnirvana Your the definition of ignorance. Why do you watch these videos if your only going to comment in a negative fashion on something that is so uplifting and inspirational. Get a life and don't immitate what nirvana did.

  • @aeboi lol nirvana has a diff meaning than that gay ass band. also my comment was not negative. the father seriously messed up when he started running with him cause olympics rules clearly state u have to finish a race unassisted. by helping him he got his son disqualified and thus defeated the purpose of his running towards the finish line in the first place which was to finish the race he started. he never finished cause he was disqualified ... do u get it ignorant aeboi. wiki it

  • @noxiousnirvana Obviously you are not only lame but as clueless as they come. The father helping his son through time of pain and sorrow is powerful reguardless if he was disqualified or not. Your point is moot. Quackhead.

  • LOL@when he fell ha ha ha ha ha

  • @wantsvictory seriouisly?????

  • @BeautifulTree

Really, it was funny...... Come on he had won Gold before anyway, it's not like he had anything really to prove anymore.

  • @wantsvictory jus stfu u sound stupid...

  • @adrianne05

    Make me! Ghetto girl!

  • @wantsvictory wump wump, im just going to ignore yo ass cuz that was wack and u makin yo self look more stupid

  • @adrianne05

I feel stupid for having read your comments "wump wump" what does that mean out in the jungle?

  • @wantsvictory ...dats because u are

  • @adrianne05

I laugh at your jungle talk, go swing from some trees, and don't talk to me anymore. You're beneath me!

  • @wantsvictory jungle jokes from a caveman? that's brilliant and original.

  • @adrianne05

Really, tell me what "WUMP WUMP" means anyway?

I tried looking it up, and it's not in Websters.

  • @wantsvictory lol! dude i see you are persistent...it means what you said was wack/stupid/unneccessary...

  • @adrianne05

You're the one who started this by telling me to stfu, I'm simply letting you know where you stand. If "wack/stupid/unneccessary" has an acronym in the GHETTO as you just described, then it really isn't a good acronym. Especially since you spelled "unnecessary" wrong.

  • @wantsvictory lol! oh really dude who gives a flyin f*&$...you tryina get on me on my spelling but the way you using the word "ghetto"...i guess when somebody tells you to stfu they are considered ghetto...simple simple simple minded thats all i have to say....this is the joke of the day, how about you have a nice day...

  • @adrianne05

Hey, you're the one who started this by telling me to stfu, so from now on when you want to use strong statements like that, you had better be ready for someone to come back at you just as strong. You are ignorant, and I point to your ghetto roots from the slang you use. Start talking like a human, and people won't call you a monkey.

  • @wantsvictory lol! woopi dee woo im am so scared but thanks for the speech dr. wantsvictory i really appreciated it....i guess we are on the same page now, now moving along.....

  • They cropped his dads shirt out, it said 'have you hugged your son today'

  • @bigmike1441 Nah man...The T-shirt Says "Have you hugged your Foot Today?" It's a nike t-shirt promoting its shoe on it !!!

  • thats not what his dad was wearing there was writing on his shirt

  • @deaunte101 Visa probably didnt want to advertise anything so they edited out any logos that were being shown

  • @Trueloot33 dude stfu! you couldn't even make the damn olympics and if you somehow magically did you wouldn't have the courage or determination to finish the race like Derek Redmond did. You should learn from this It doesn't matter about winning or losing but it's about finishing whether you tore a hamstring or not. It's a daily principle and Derek Redmond is an example of my life of finishing strong even if something tragic happens in your life.

  • @Trueloot33 LMFAOOOO XD

  • Happy Fathersday Mr. Redmond

  • they photoshopped away the dad's hat and shirt wordings...

  • Best yet saddest commercial ever.

  • AWW I AM CRYIN RIGHT NOW JK BUT THIS IS SUPER SAD BUT HE TRIED I HAD TO DO A REPORT on this and that was the first time i saw this video it is sooo heart breaking but encouraging

  • This one is my favorite. =)

  • @uncensored209 mine too!! lol

  • wow

  • This one always gets me *sniff*

  • If you watch the real video of this, his father is wearing a Just Do It cap...weird that his cap is whited out now :P

  • @91BroncoBoy it's cuz it's a visa commercial and they can't advertise other brands without the consent of nike

  • That is what the olympics are about

More than half of the countryscompete in the olympoics without earning anny metal at all

they do it for the honer of competeing in the olympics and the chance cto represent there nation doing something they have commpassion for

  • @bflswimmy but im American i gotta win like 80 GOAL MEDALS OR I'll be sad.

  • @NFLdude505 That guy was British.

  • i want morgan freeman to narrate my life

  • amen to that

  • @gamecrazy132 lol i know right

  • @gamecrazy132 that would be better than going to heaven

  • @gamecrazy132 ahahahaha .. fuck man seriously haaahhahaha

  • Oh wow I just realized they removed the words from his father's hat and shirt.

Regardless it is a very touching story, he may not officially be listed as having finished but this is one of the greatest tales of perseverance in the Olympic games, and that makes him a true Olympian to me!

  • derrick WAS the real winner

  • haha cmon lil dude

gett off da computer before mom catches u beatin yo baby meat to morgan freeman's voice

  • Take it from those who watched before Freeman got the gig.

    His story was touching.

We were there, we were moved.

Redmond was a winner of hearts and this is a testimony to the human spirit not mere achievement.

Perhaps someday you might understand that.

  • My eyes always water when I watch this video =)

  • awe inspiring

a beautiful story that makes the olympics what they are

  • I saw a teenager when this happened and I still remember the crowd's reaction. First, a gasp spreading through the crowd when he started limping, gazes of sympathy as he fell, then another gasp when he refued to be carried off the track. I remember the dull roar in the stadium as people began to clap and a thunderous ovation when he crossed the finishline with his father.

Something that I'd never forget and I hope that current athletes would emulate.

  • i dont know why but every time i see this i want to cry!!

  • i remember this! I was so young at the time. I cried a lot.

  • I'm so teary!

  • What an awesome Dad! I hope mine would do the same! :)

  • friggin aye... now i'm crying.

  • @ goruu

    That's funny,

that was my first thought about you when I read your comment.

  • No, you watched this video and thought the same too.

  • WOW

I hope webster adds your name as another definition of douchbag.

  • Impossible.

Because you are the closest word next to it.

  • That was a good one. Your probably one of them kids that has never done anything productive that didn't involve World of asscraft .

  • Assuming that because I was able to make you cry?

You are becoming more and more pathetic with every comment you make.

  • Cry?? not don't cry, because I do stuff with my life unlike you who probably has never touched or even talked to a girl unless it was through the internet you word of warcraft cock sucking faggot.

  • love it

  • Visa has the most touching commercials

  • gives me chills

  • OMG i had never cried so much in only 30 seconds!!!

  • Made me miss my dad.

  • This is probably the best commercial that Visa has ever done, they did it tastefully and respectfully. Do I care that they pull at my heartstrings to look like a good company? When I watch this, no I do not, because Derek Redmond finishing that race was probably the most true and amazing thing that could ever happened at the olympics.

  • Go World.

  • i hear u man

  • i love olympic commercials. GO WORLD!

  • damn.... love it every time

  • This is a wonderful story!

  • Best video ever Morgan's voice is truely a gift

  • This is the most moving commercial I have ever seen. Just because. He was there. In the moment he was needed most.

  • That's what the Olympics are about.

  • NOW THATS father- and derek is a TRUE olympics contender.

  • Such an amazing and touching story!

  • Great advertisement. I remember seeing this, as well.

  • This commercial makes me want to cry. My father used to tell the Redmond's (and Jansen's) stories when I was a kid. I may not be in sports, but the stories of how they didn't quit, encouraged me to get to where I am today.

  • Apparently, because his father helped in, the official Olympics disqualified him and listed him as "Did Not Finish"

    Pretty cold from them o.o

  • God. Best commercial ever.

  • this kid makes england look badass

  • This makes me tear up also

Very inspration in soccer for me and in life
