Hey dude this is a cool lesson. I thought you might like to check out a new guitar website that really helps beginner guitarists. >> RexPearson. com << Would love for you to give some feedback and maybe even do a guest lesson for it?
The fingering of this guy and his technique kidda sucks. If you're a beginner, you'd better look for some other video. Protip: relax your muscles while playing!
well... indeed it's too fast. just try to imagine that you're a complet beginer... than you've got basic questions to answer.. first did you explained why is this important to know? and you just showed the notes, but for a begginer it's also important to know where is it for real... so also you sould tell us that is the C is on the 3rd fret on the A string... and some other major thing (haha bad pun) is the sliding....
Sorry Trooperduck, that is one octave lower than Middle C. The third fret of the A string is C3 of the piano. C4 (middle C) is on the fifth fret of the G, 10th fret of the D, 15th of the A and 20th of the E if you have that many frets.
i have years of music experience with many kinds of instruments, just picked up a bass today and this lesson didnt have such good detail, but it was a good starting position and now i can play the C scale and I havent looked at anything related to bass other than this video. I dont do it the way he shows, i found that you can use a lot less effort than from the way he does it. There are two open strings you can use instead of fingering for them, etc. Anyways, i can play C scale now. Thanks.
Depends on who taught you or if you taught yourself, where you change position and what you consider a starting point. 4 fingers is correct but sometimes comfort doesn't hurt tone and quality.
well, i found this to be useful and i picked it up straiht away. i guess nerrage is just someone whos a slow learner and quits wen he cant do one lil' thing. hey nerrage, ever heard of "good enough to make loads of videos. quality AND quantity
Thanks for completely humiliating all beginners and completely undetailed instructions... Expert village is a mah kinda site, but damn they have 69317 videos? Have any of them heard of QUALITY and not quantity? I swear, they have about 5 different bass series themed lessons instead of just teaching us the right way... I'm gonna go back to my years of trombone experience instead of your bullcrappy lessons.
You tell us to find the C but you don't tell us how to go about finding the C.
Should mention the notes of the open strings if this is suppose to be an intro lesson which I think it is. Open strings are E A D G, so on the second string(from the top) notes are starting with the open string are (A)-
y do u care their tyring to help you for free so u should be thankful for that instead of having to pay money to learn a scale where some guy can teach u
yeah well its not really helping you if they are teaching you the wrong way. its more likely you will go backwards in improvement rather than forwards. it would help us much more if this video wasnt here
this guy has the worst technique I've ever seen... this videos are funny as heck... please check out the one where he teaches how to use the electronic tuner... no joke..
*sigh* i lernt some shizzle like that in music...tone, tone, semi tone blah blah u cudda just told us 3rd fret, 5th fret blah blah....thats easier to listen to without getting shit bored like i just did.. thanks anyway tho :P
Wow, talk about making it a lot harder than it actually is. There's actually a way you can do that without even moving your hand position, that'll work for ANY note.
Uhh, his left hand technique is wrong. There's no reason to switch between 2nd and 3rd fretting positions to play a one octave major scale--assign one finger to each fret; don't move your index between E and F, and the first C should be played with the middle finger.
It's nice of you to try and help new players, but maybe check your technique before you make instructional videos?
Uhh, his left hand technique is wrong. There's no reason to switch between 2nd and 3rd fretting positions to play a one octave major scale--assign one finger to each fret; don't move your index between E and F, and the first C should be played with the middle finger.

Next comes the Major 3rd which you play with your Index finger on fret 2 of the D string (another whole step). Next comes Perfect 4th which your middle finger plays on fret 3 of the D string (a half step). Next use your pinky finger to play fret 5 of the D string giving you Perfect 5th. Next comes Major 6th which you play with your Index finger on fret 2 of the G string. After that is Major 7th played with your Ring finger on fret 4 of the G string,
and finally play fret 5 of the G string with your pinky finger giving you the Octave and completing the Scale. Do this and memorize it then try experimenting playing your Root note (fret 3 of the A string for the C major scale) with combinations of the other notes while listening to how different each one sounds.
Ok well hope this helps. And sorry for any inaccuracies.
To experiment with these Intervals learn the fingering for the Major scale, like the guy in the video showed except try it without moving your hand. Let each finger get its own fret and since you have 4 fingers to use and you only need to use 4 frets on 3 strings it works perfect. So your middle finger will start the C Major scale at fret 3 on the A string, next your pinky finger plays fret 5 on the A string giving you the Major 2nd interval.
Now try playing fret 3 on the A string along with fret 4 on the G string, this is Major 7th, note the way it sounds (Total dissonance) Next play fret 3 of the A string along with fret 5 of the G string, this is the Octave interval, note the way it sounds (perfect Harmony, even though it is only 1 semitone different from the Major 7th)
These particular Intervals are based on the Major Scale and each one has unique resonance properties with varying levels of Harmony and Dissonance. Try playing fret 3 on the A string with fret 5 on the D string at the same time, this is the Perfect 5th and take note of the way it sounds (nice and clean with lots of Harmony)
There are other Intervals with different numbers of semitones, such as Perfect 4th (5 semitones difference) Perfect 5th (7 semitones difference) Major 7th (11 semitones) Major 3rd (4 semitones difference) and more
A tone is 2 semitones or a whole step, say when you go from fret 5 on the A string to fret 2 on the D string, you've gone 2 semitones/1 tone, and just the same from fret 5 on the A string to fret 7 on the A string is 2 semitones/1 tone as well.)
Ok ill try and help you all out cause I took a Music Theory class. A scale starts on 1 note and ends on the same note an Octave above or below your Root (starting) note. An Octave is what's refered to as an "Interval" and is composed of 12 semitones or "half steps" (a semitone is from 1 fret to the next closest, as in say from fret 3 to fret 4 or from fret 4 to fret 3,
it will be easier to understand if u had learn the basic scales.. i thought his teaching was ok.. go learn at some website then listen to him play.. cant learn everything from videos
Some of your other videos are pretty good, but I could see how some people could get lost if they dont know what a whole step or a half step is. Ive been self teaching on bass with barely any help, just using tabs from UG and occasional advice from my friends. It took me about two times to watch the video to fully get it down, but I understand it. You just couldve done a better job is all.

Best way to learn C Major:
2-4-1-2-4-1-3-4.
Patterns help a lot. Just start on the third fret on the A string and the numbers I've listed are the fingers you'll use.
