I was there. This was a terrible performance, and I've been to many. I rather have heard nothing than to hear him sick as he was. It was like nails screeching on a chalkboard
Oh how I love you Robert!! You are so true to your fans no matter what!! What a truly amazing man you are!! So beautiful and so wonderfully adorable!! ILY Robert!! <3 The Cure forever!!!
Robert's so adorable. just listening to him apologize for his sore throat - which isn't his fault - and hearing his poor voice...it pulls at my heart strings.
he still sounds so lovely and at the same time you think "aww, bless poor Robert - he's caught a cold".
I really agree. It's been so cool to see him mellow out over the years and interact with the crowd more during shows. Totally creates a tangible connection to the Mighty Smith that some audiences in the early years were far removed from.
I have only been blessed to see them one other time in "Detroit 1989 Disintegration tour..which was also an unforgettable show...my seats were way better for this one and I got to take my daughter Charlotte to her first concert. Will never forget it :D
First, I would've given "anything" to have seen a Prayer Tour show-that time was sooo influential and powerful in my life! And how cool all these years later to take your daughter as a second generation Curehead...lucky girl, does she loooove her name?!!! Envy!!
It was a magical evening! That venue was personal and charming, and what a summer night to be outside celebrating with The Cure! We are the lucky ones!
thats my hero, i should be in london right now at the front of the line at O2 but NME's ticket company went broke and i never got a ticket. ain't life a bitch
Oh God, you are so right, but I wouldn't mind being below him. Sorry it's the wine talking, the new album talking, and a fan moment happening. Long live Robert!!!!
Yes, it was thoughtful of Robert to announce his throat problems. Despite that, it is really nice to know that the concert turned out to be superb. That shows how much The Cure means to their fans and vice-versa. Hope he has recovered completely.
Was at this show and still thought he sounded great! I beg to differ with whoever said the sound was loud. I was up high, but in the center, and have never been to a show that was so loud but great sounding. So much fun!
Robert Smith can do no wrong, He is awesome and has a voice like no one else! I love him to pieces! He sounds incredible in this video and thank you for sharing it!
So strange, two years ago, may 11, 2006, Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode had the same problem but he just stopped the show. It still gets cold here in Missouri at night in May. Maybe these poor European dudes cant hack the cow/pig/chicken shit / spring time Missouri pollen in the the air. I wish I could have went but I was stuck at work. Come back soon and kick ass Robert.
Well, actually I think Dave got sick after the Mexico City venues. I was there and Mexico City had unexpected cold windy nights in May (Dave used to sing without shirt) besides there was a memorable rain just right at the end of the last show. So that time I think there was nothing related with Missouri atmospheric conditions
thanks for posting this. the sound was horrible at show and we couldn't make out exactly what he said. at 1st we thought maybe he was unhappy with the Kansas City crowd...its nice to know he was pleased with us even though he said he wasn't tip top. what an amazing artist to sing through a sore throat. did i hear that a future gig is in our future? that would be awesome! he still sounded great to me, and they put on a F-ing AWESOME show! thanks again!
Thanks for posting this, I was there also and it was the BEST concert ever. He is such a great guy, most bands would have just cancelled. I hope they do come back..SOON!!
This was actually the first concert I ever attended.

Aww, poor Robert ~ What's he saying there: "...30 years of singing and I've never ever had a... ???" The last word, what's that? Thanks.

Robert is such a great person, always concerned to be on eye-level with his audience.
His charisma (just like siouxsie) grows with age.
